Diabetes and Flying Status

Recommended Posts

Guest goducks

I tried searching and I couldn't find anything on it but I was just curious if Type 1 or 2 diabetes is disqualifying for flying status in the AF. Thanks

The waiver guide is online at:

USAF waiver guide 2007

See page 166. This is the 2007 version, but the aeromedical recommendations appear to be the same as the newer (2009) version, which I didn't easily find online.

In a nutshell, FCI will not be waivered for any DM. FCII or FCIII are waiverable only if they can be controlled without medications.

Over a long period of time, I have begun to get many of the symptoms of the onset of Type II diabetes. If you are not dependent on insulin, will I be medically retired? I don't know a thing about it. Has anyone had any experience with it?
