Remake of Dambusters

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/1647453...sandquot_remake

I think there's only one flying Lancaster around these days, so I'd figure they'll hafta rely on CGI to recreate the specially-modified bomber.

I wouldn't be surprised if they renamed the squadron mascot to a less offensive name. It was a black lab named a pejorative for a person of African-American heritage (the 'N-word'). (I'd spell it out but don't wanna get people all riled up reading it outta context.)

The dog was accidentally run over and killed the day before the Dambuster raid.

I'm in two minds about this as the classic is just so good; I just can't envisage a remake ever working. The same could be applied to The Great Escape, a remake would never do justice to the original.

In regards to the Lancasters still flying, I've been fortunate enough to see the Battle of Britain memorial flight one on a couple of occasions. One from a roof of my university where it was being flanked by a Spitfire and Hurricane during a fly over. The other occasion was in the middle of bloody nowhere in the UK, where to my complete surprise this lone 4 prop plane swooped over a hillside a mile or so away. I couldn't figure out what it was at first, but I was expecting it to be a C-130 or something not so exciting, but when it flew over my head at about 200ft off the ground it became pretty clear that it was one of the Lancasters!

Edit for retarded typing.

Here's a little experiment with 'cutting and pasting' that I did several years ago to a photo of the CWH Lancaster from a CFB Trenton airshow. The aircraft is dedicated to the memory of P/O Andrew Mynarski, VC, of the Royal Canadian Air Force who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions over France in June of 1944. (http://www.lancastermuseum.ca/s,mynarski.html)

It will be interesting to see how a remake of the Dambusters will be done, as you've said, the original is such a classic. The remake would be good though to keep 617's heritage alive, as so few today - at least here in the States - know about the missions.

While Lancasters are in short supply what about using the Avro Shackleton as a stand-in? The Shackleton was "born" from the Lancaster. Sure it has the counterrotating props, but talented GCI dudes can fix that along with any other other "fixes" to make it quasi-authentic. Slap on some WWII era paint and that's probally about as good as it's gonna get without the real deal. Then again the Shackleton's were retired in the early 90's so... nevermind, just a random thought.
