Almost everything you need about the course is on the AF portal page for the 45 AS at: https://www.my.af.mi...123772727040040 The course is divided between the simulator phase, currently under contract with Simuflite in Dallas, and the flying FTU at Keesler AFB. The course is relatively fast paced, but not so much as UPT. It's much faster than Altus, lasting 6 weeks. Instructors and evaluators are big pretty big picture, and appear to genuinely care about getting the students qualifi

Birmingham, AL - Days Inn was a dump. It's the Day's Inn by the Airport in Birmingham Alabama. The pool was brown and black, the water that is... the rooms were not clean, one room the sheets were torn.. not a pleasant experience... Huntsville, AL - Candlewood Suites is excellent in that it has government rates that max out the Per Diem, but there are a few things I wish I knew before I went there. Huntsville had an E-Coli outbreak while I was there; I ate at Logan's Steakhouse and Atlanta B

Anchorage, Alaska - The summer is sweet. The base is spread out so get a U-drive from AMCC or get a rental. No U-Drives for AMC crews less than 24 hrs on the ground. We got horrible support from the base (since it's PACAF). The aircrew billeting is barely within walking distance of the shoppette. Northstar Inn is a decent hotel. The BX and Commissary is shared with Ft Richardson and sits between the two on the other side of the flight line. While the F-15s are flying, good luck trying to sleep (

Antigua, West Indies - Club Antigua is a Great Resort/Hotel... Last time I was there a couple of years ago and it was $95.00 a night. Free dinner buffet and FREE BAR! Small rooms with no phones or TV, but, its right on a great beach with its own cove. WARNING! Don't use the pay phone at the lobby cause you'll get charged ship-to-shore fees and it adds up real quick. Other than that, GREAT PLACE! Jolly Beach Resort (phone: 268-462-0061) was a nice resort. This all inclusive was nice. Rooms are a

Salta, Argentina - Hotel Portozuelo is excellent. The rooms are clean and the hotel sits at the base of a hill overlooking the entire city. Good exercise walking up. Bonus, on top of the hill, they hold outdoor aerobics classes. Good Latin-booty watching opportunity. The food everywhere is cheap. Go to any food stand and eat a "lomito." It's like an Argentinian Philly cheesesteak. Great places to eat are Viejo Jack's (for steaks that weigh more than you do) or Solar. Good wines from that region

Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson AZ - There is a GREAT Marriott downtown (2nd Street) right at the edge of the University and so close to the bars, etc... Another Marriot in town is the Courtyard Marriot. Staff is extremely helpful. Restaurant has nice breakfast buffet each morning. Hotel has swimming pool, whirl pool, work out room etc. Very convenient to restaurants, shopping and even to base. Not as close to U of A as some may like however. Embassy Suites is $58 a night for off-season and the on-sea

Ascension Aux AF - The USAF contract billeting rooms we got were two rooms sharing a gang style shower/latrine. Clean and has satellite tv. Rooms are $5.00 a night and you pay at the dinning hall. The USAF has a fishing boat that is anchored at Georgetown. Use is free and a crew is provided, however, you need to bring all fishing supplies but the poles. Also, you will have to hitch hike over to Georgetown unless you have about 45-55 minutes to walk from the USAF settlement. People are very frien

Brisbane, Australia - Holiday Inn 61-7-32382222 was a nice hotel with pubs and restaurants nearby. At Brisbane International our handling agent was Brisbane Jet Base, 61-73860 phone, www.adagold, or 129.9 Mhz. Glen was running the show - fuel, customs, food and drink was outstanding. Glen will broker the exportation of some XXXX Bitter or other hooch from Down Under. Lajes, Azores - The rooms on base weren't bad, within walking distance to the gym, bowling alley, and BX. About 10 minutes from the front gate. Unfortunately, no AC, so in the summertime bring a basting brush cause you will roast. Talk to MWR to arrange a fishing trip. It was 50 bones per person, but it included a local guide who knew all the good spots, we haled in tons of fish, then he let us snorkel and swim in the Atlantic. On the way in to the Marina he cooked up some of the fish with this

Bahamas - Flew into Governor's Harbor Airport (Eleuthera Island) -- Day VFR only, 7900ft. "Big Daddy" has a 24 hour taxi service (big Dodge van), [332-1592], it costs $42 for the first person and $2 for each additional for a one way trip from the airport to The Cove [1-800-552-5960]. You can also rent a car for $60 a day. Approx. 30 minute trip (roads are bad from hurricane Floyd). The Cove will make arrangements if you tell them. Bahrain - Book rooms at the Diplomat Hotel through the Navy ATOC. Hotel is amazing for the Middle East. Great Irish pub downstairs and just short cab ride away from the islands bars. Great pool and poolside bar(usually being visited by British Airways flight attendants); Good restaurant. Highly recommend hitting the Savage Garden disco a few blocks away. Note for aircrews, make sure you get everyone's room number since the staff sometimes had trouble looking up English-sounding names. The Gulf H

Dhaka, Bangladesh - Paradise Garden Hotel Ltd Pvt. was decent. One of four embassy approved places that air crew can stay at. There is no fire protection here, no sprinklers or fire extinguishers here. The ability to have any kind of force protection is non existent as there is easy access to the front of the hotel, no gates, and the hotel staff will give out room numbers and names to anyone who asks. Our entire crew got sick when we were there, but that could have been from any place. The inter

Holiday Inn-LIDO is decent, within walking distance to center square of town, which has numerous outdoor restaurants/bars. Lots of culture but little night-life. Make sure you file "IFPS Changes Accepted" in Rmks to help avoid the always painfull Brussells flow cntrl 1801 rejection. Base Ops DSN 314-361-5411 Fax 55

Belize City, Belize - Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina (P.O. Box321, Belize City , Belize Central America 501-2-33333) is decent and is in Belize City. Consensus of the local taxi drivers say that this is the nicest place in town. The Princess Resort and Casino is rumored to have rats. Booze and food in the hotel restaurant is good. There is a dive shop in the marina that will take you out to the second largest barrier reef in the world for about $90 US. Exchange rate is fixed at 2 Belize t

Bermuda - Groto Bay Beach Resort was nice and right on the water. 5 minutes from the airport. Moped/scooter rental right next door (cruise the island for $50). Swizzle Inn is a decent bar one block from the hotel. Other bars are in Hamilton (about a 20 minute cab ride). Buy your rum at the Duty Free (half the price that you would pay in town). ~Grotto bay was very nice. SCUBA rentals, little gym, poolside bar, really good omelets in the morning. Pricey, but that's what you get $145 a day per die

Sofia, Bulgaria - Sofia Sheraton was fantastic! Hotel room was huge, restaurant, casino, and gentlemen's club all in the Sheraton. Casino and gentlemen's club run by good fellas from Kiev, just don't get crazy and no one will bother you. Don't buy the working folks drinks in the gentlemen's club without understanding the full price first. Great shopping and safe to walk around the city in pairs or larger groups.

Yaounde, Cameroon - The Yaounde Hilton was a dump! There's a nauseating smell in the air, inside hotel, and your room (I think it was the locals). The rooms are clean and free of insects, however, the water IS NOT potable and the water color is light brown. Two nights were spent here, the first night the water ran clear after 15 minutes; the second night the water stayed light brown. Disgusting!!! The restaurant in the hotel is suitable. There is at least something on the menu an American will e
