True and also Octavio's downtown for more good tacos, the Chinese takeout place next to Jumbo, and Flamingo's for awesome burgers. I think the Italian place downtown is Napoli's; their pizza is pretty good but that's about it IMO.

For bars, yeah Callaghan's has probably the best beer selection but it does get old. Crappy's is a pretty cool dive bar, and if you go with a group you can take over the back room which has pool and darts. Captain's Quarters is another armpit which is pretty fun to get loaded at when it's open. Scooter's for late night disgusting drunk ladies, which you'll have to check out at least once. Both strip clubs in town are shitholes so don't go sober.

The good liquor store in town is Proof. Also get your hair cut at Blue Jay.

That sounds like a lot of suggestions but I think we pretty much covered everything there is to do in Enid!

If your class isn't a bunch of d-bags than there's plenty of opportunities for fun while you're there.

    Five80 for coffee.

And I would repeat UPT, from Day 1/Phase 1, to be able eat at Mama Titas again.

  2. Holy Monday morning f'ing quarterback.

1.). If you are a USAF pilot and haven't flown an F prefix, read your post, and think carefully if it applies.

2.). If you are in pilot training, just punch yourself in the balls and go back to the correct forum, not this one.

3.) If you have never flown a USAF airplane, read your post, delete it, punch yourself in the balls, and realize we don't care, a few of your FARs are trumped by our -1's. (not that you know what that is).

4.). We don't know who is right or wrong in this situation, we will not know for about 30 days but will never share that info on this forum. The AIB and NTSB will come up with something and hopefully it is close to the SIB, but this forum will never know.

Back to guessing who killed Kennedy.

    Big "2" on this one.

  3. Yeah I get what you guys are saying. I wouldn't want something that look like a BX special watch either. Having a hard time getting enough interest for HC-130 version and was trying to appeal to a larger audience. Thanks for the input.

I would be interested in a potential HC-130P/N version as well, but damn - that's a buttload of cash.

  4. My bro used Uship recently twice for a kit car and a Unimog. He had no complaints.

I've heard some horror stories with auto shipping companies so be careful. Most bad experiences stem from damage to cars or no idea where your car is and when it will arrive. I move mine with a flatbed trailer. I think it's easier to just do it yourself if you have the right hardware. If not get it - part of being a car guy.

Just signed up with UShip and I already have a reasonable bid <12hrs after creating the shipment request. Legit!

In the interest of saving cash, I might just rent a car carrier from Penske (I'm already renting a 22' moving truck with them) and winch it up there. You're exactly right, though; I need a trailer/car carrier of my own for the M3.

  5. I went through this recently. If it's registered its a car and if it can't be legally driven then it is car parts. Mine was a kit but already registered and street legalish. It wouldn't be moved on their dime. Ended up not being a factor; I was right at my weight limit anyway.

The car is registered, insured and intact, just not running (didn't keep up with the maintenance during PIQ like I should've...).

And not sure if it makes a difference, but I've been on TDY orders since the beginning of PIQ, and will remain on said TDY orders thru MPIQ at KABQ. I know that the gov't won't pay for any part of the move, so I was more or less wondering if anyone had any recent success with shipping an inoperative vehicle.

  6. No, I never took the mil-comp commercial. I went from a PPL (SE-land) to an ATP (ME-Land).

I quoted what I did because what Smokin says, and nunya validates as "correct" is actually false. IAW CFR 61.153, one who meets the military requirements in CFR 61.73 does not "have to already have a commercial license in order to do the practical ATP exam", nor do they "just need to go take the commercial test." I'm trying to make it clear to anyone who reads through this thread that a military pilot that satisfies the requirements of CFR 61.73 does not need to get a commercial rating or take the mil-comp commercial test in order to take the ATP written or practical.

Awesome! Thanks the for the info.

  7. I took the written several months ago and the only rating I had was a PPL. So to answer your original questions, no - you don't need any ratings in order to take the ATP written or practical. I might be wrong on this but the content of the practical may be different if you don't have any other ratings (e.g. - you'll have to fly a Vmca demo).

To be more clear, you don't need any ratings OR hours to take the ATP written. You do need a drivers license.

    Copy all.

To rephrase my second paragraph: When the time comes (sts), is there any way an FAA examiner can bar me from taking the ATP Practical checkride because I completed my ATP written prior to earning a commercial license?

  8. Gents,

I'm just finishing up UPT and I was wondering about the necessity of having my commercial, instrument (w/ME add-on) and Beech 400 type ratings PRIOR to taking the ATP written. I have heard a TON of conflicting reports -- some folks are saying that anyone can take the written, and some are saying that the post-UPT Mil Comp test (effectively netting me a commercial license) should be done prior to taking the ATP written.

Those same folks who push for the Mil Comp tests are saying a grey area exists with FAA ATP practical examiners. Apparently, some examiners will NOT honor an applicant's written test, if they see that the commercial license is earned AFTER the ATP written test is taken. Others say the timeline doesn't matter. Can anyone offer any clarification on this?

  11. looks like I was just a little too impatient on my post a few days ago. new 36-2205v3 posted to e-pubs: http://static.e-publ...ci36-2205v3.pdf

    of note:

1.1 ... Pilot, RPA pilot, and CSO candidates with a private pilot certificate are exempt from IFS.

So, should those of us with orders expect to have them cancelled? I've already gotten a few calls from AMS buddies who've had theirs cancelled... Some guys (including me) have class dates next month.

  12. -Can you or do you swear in before your packet goes through the guard bureau?

Yes. In my case, I re-enlisted into my unit almost 8 months before there was any movement on my package.

-At what point did your packet clear the guard bureau and how long did it take?

I got my dates in June of 2012, and I re-enlisted in July 2011. So, 11 months or so to get AMS, UPT, etc dates.

-When did you receive all your dates?

    See above.

But my patience and anticipation are reaching critical mass. So any input or feedback is much appreciated.

Then prepare yourself for many years of near-continuous frustration. The military is not a place where anything is done in a timely, nor sensible fashion.

    My Dates:

    Hired: July 2011

    Dates Released: June 2012

    AMS: Oct-Dec 2012

    IFS: Feb-Mar 2013

    UPT: June 2013-July 2014

    Little Rock: TBD

    Kirtland: TBD

    SERE: TBD

    Water Survival: TBD

  13. Is it possible to schedule the FC1 yourself?

I was selected pilot this recent USAF AD Board... dont ask about my recruiter, lol.

As unlikely as it is, I was wondering about this as well.

I was given a 5 MAR date for my FC1. I was sworn into my unit in September. +/- 7 months to get the CHANCE to get medically qualified?? Apparently the NYNGB is saying that only a certain number of candidates per "group" can have had LASIK/PRK. And apparently, MFS has completely met their quota for RS candidates until March. I (respectfully) call shenanigans! Isn't there someone I can call to verify this "policy?"

Anyone else had this kind of delay?

  14. When does one forfeit their 5th Amendment rights?

When one plans terrorist operations against US citizens, on US soil. Whether or not the exact verbiage exists in codified law should be irrelevant. You wanna target Americans? You deserve to eat a Hellfire.
