Ok, that makes sense, thank you for clarifying.

I was told Wright Pat is now getting rid of the CCT all together, going to a test called the "CCTV" or something like that. This supposedly comes from ACS itself since so many people fail the CCT.

Depends. Lots of factors. Different docs handle DQ events in different ways. Some will let you know what they've found right away, but others will wait because the entire exam has to be completed and other problems may pop up. Then, they cover everything all at once. Sometimes the doc will base their actions on how they perceive the person is going to take the bad information. It sucks for everyone involved when an examinee is given bad information, takes it hard and then you still have to complete the process. I think it's safe to say that a person will know when something isn't going right, but they may not get the full picture until the end. Speaking for myself, I never wanted to tell someone one thing and then have to retract my statement because of new information.
Thank you for the response sir, I appreciate the info. Very apprehensive over one thing and your reply quelled a lot of that stress, staying positive!

Stupid question inbound. If there are any disqualifying things found on day 1 of the FC1, will they let you know that same day, or have you complete everything else then let you know?
Thanks

Every Guard/Reserve flight board in general since 12/19 or every Fighter board? All those great scores and flight time and not even an interview anywhere? Is there something you aren't telling us?
At this point, just apply everywhere...if you haven't actually been doing so already. In 10 years will you be content working in an office or regional cockpit knowing you could have served as an RC-26 pilot busting the El Chapo's of the world? -
Can anybody elaborate on the optical portion? Is it a full battery of acuity, depth perception and color vision tests?

Cheers man!!

I am extremely grateful for all the posters in this group and can proudly say I was offered my dream job as a KC135 UPT selectee today. This thread has been a wealth of knowledge.
KC135 board. 3 pilots, 1 boom operator (Captain to LT Col). Most relaxed, human interview I've participated in and so glad I get to call this unit my future home.
"Tell us about yourself"
"Tell us about your civilian job and what its like"
"Do you want to be an airline pilot?"
"If you could get in the plane right now and go anywhere, where would you go and what would you eat?"
"How do you handle conflict with another person?"
"Tell us about your flight experience"
"Ever have an instructor you didn't mesh with and how did you handle it?"
"What do you do as an Army Officer?"
"Favorite movie/food/drink? ""Questions for us?"
PCSM 97 Pilot 87 250TT Age 26
If anybody has specific questions or anything, please feel free to message me and we can talk!

Whats the appeal of Cheyenne? It seems like such a highly competitive unit for a location that isn't in a major metropolitan area. I'm guessing proximity to Denver? I froze my cajones off when I went up there.

Anybody hear yes or no from CPW? I got a random email from an AFRES recruiter that said "congrats again on your selection" but did not refer to what I had been selected for. Thinking either mistaken identity or I missed an email from the CPW folks.
This is your new identity now. Take it and run.

I just got an email back from a guard mobility unit stating that AETC has restricted all mobility guard and reserve squadrons to 1 UPT candidate per year in response to a covid induced back log in training. However, they also stated that people eligible for the new Civil Path to Wings program will be apart of a totally separate pipeline. So, this is making them press for people eligible for CPW.
Has anyone heard about this or have more information about this?
Isn't that contrary what was posted recently about 90 or so slots for AFRC this year?

I got a TBNT from them. They wanted someone that had already gone to OTS. You didn’t have to be rated but you did have to be an officer already.
Which squadron up there said that?

Need some help. I've been out-of-the-loop since DQing my FC1 for colorvision back in 2016 after getting picked up at Selfridge. Just became aware of the changes to the scoring standards for AF cv tests and looking to get back on the interview train before I age out. Any help with upcoming boards/deadlines for submissions would be incredibly helpful. Focused on fighters. Thanks
I'm in the exact same situation as you brotha. Theres no easy answer, other than apply absolutely everywhere and cold call units. If you want any info on the color vision test, PM me.

Go to the unit which is your top pick and more convenient for yourself, your family and your dreams. You've already sworn into one unit, so it's ultimately up to them to let you go, but if they've done their due diligence, they'll have an alternate ready to go. Biggest piece of advice I can give you is to be upfront and honest and let the cards fall where they may. Personally, if we hired a guy that later was hired at his dream assignment, I would be happy for them and do what I could to them get there....and our alternate would be ecstatic. It might be good to get the bosses at each unit in the loop or talking to each other. We hired an enlisted kid from our base who already had a spot at another base (4 states away)...our SQ/CCs talked to each other and it was easy as that. The other squadron released him with well wishes.
Unsolicited wisdom: I'm nearing the end of my career in the Air Guard and here are a few things you should digest and never forget, especially if/when you get a family. In the military, noone will ever take care of you, better than you will. Also, when you leave, there will always be someone there to fill the spot and the machine will keep turning. That's not saying you ALWAYS only do what is best for you or otherwise be a shitbag, just that sometimes you have to stick up for yourself and what you want.
Best of luck!
Based on your scree name, I assume you're former Army? If so, that type of attitude may be a thing over there, but it shouldn't be on this side of things. If that's the mentality within a unit, run (don't walk) away from them as soon as you can. If that's how they treat people with something like this, it will only get worse down the road. Why would you want someone in your unit that would rather be elsewhere?
I am former Army. Its not a mentality thing as much as its a professional courtesy. On the Army Guard side of things, we used to have new LT's that would hurt us after deciding they wanted a different assignment once done with OCS. I get it, preferences and perspectives change, but when you commit to a unit and get them slotted into a specific position, only to have them renege really throws off the balance of the manning and workload for 60+ Soldiers. I am extremely happy to hear you say its not as big as a problem in the Air Force. When you have a Company of 60 Soldiers and a 2LT acting as the Commander because there is a deficiency of Officers in the state, every person that decides to change their mind has a big impact. Thats a whole 'nother rabbit hole though, again, glad to hear its not that way in the AF.
Its my opinion that when you commit to a UPT slot and work with that unit for the better part of a year and enlist, thats where you stay. Barring any major family issues that would require you to be near your home, I can't sympathize with any decision to leave. Saying "no thanks" to a unit after a few weeks of getting a better offer and not doing any in-processing, I can totally get that. This is a job of a lifetime. Do you want it or do you want it with stipulations?
-
I hear you man, but you have a slot, take it and run. You could have the alternative, which would be No slot, No flying, anywhere. Unless you need to be around your hometown to take care of ailing family members long term, I don't see your hiring unit to be very sympathetic to your situation at this point.

I could never pass the letter version of the CCT. The Landolt version with the C's is easier for me and I can pass it on a good day with rested eyes and a lot of focus. Wright Pat will not let you retake the CCT, at least not back in 2021. You will go through a battery of other color vision tests if you fail the CCT. YMMV.
