@WannaFly2019 Thanks for sharing. Do you know what sets UPT 2.5 apart from UPT 2.0?

Well the biggest thing is that UPT 2.5 is going to be ~7 months until you're a winged pilot versus ~12.  Only 96 hours in the T-6 and you're winged.  You can technically speed up that process as far as I'm aware, but you have to be good.  We also have a "early access" program.  Essentially what this means is that you can complete all of your academics in the 3 weeks prior to your class start date.  This then allows you to get on the flight line and ride sims/flights on a Space-A basis. Oh, and the "class" structure is demolished... no more class patches, for example.

    ....Diversity and Inclusion Task force!?!

Who did you quote this from?  I can fix this UPT issue pretty easy.  Fire the few racist and sexist sim instructors.  Don't even tell me there's not - because there are quite a few.  I've had plenty of friends go through and deal with it, including my wife, who was told "women shouldn't be pilots."

  3. Hey guys.  Update on UPT 2.5 from what I know.  To lead, I have no idea if any other base is doing this or if it's just Vance.

Was just briefed we're starting UPT 2.5 in July.  The timeline is going to be T-6s to Wings in about 7 months.  Heavies will find out both airframe and location at/before graduation.  Fighter/bombers will continue on in the T-38 to do IFF and some B-Course related stuff.  Unsure of their timeframe and exactly what they're going to be doing.

As I'm sure we're all aware, the AF is trying to get rid of the T-1.  Well, this is where they're starting.  Looks like they'll be either completely removing the T-1 from the syallabus and replacing it with only T-1 transition to a heavy airframe Sims...or doing a mixture.  T-1 timeline is guesstimated at about 2 to 3 months.  Then off to Altus or Little Rock or San Antonio.  Unsure if they're planning on extending those secondary trainings or if their idea is to place a lot more training on the gaining unit.

Again, I'm not involved in the planning of any of this.  Just what we've been briefed as the OSS at a UPT base.

Feel free to ask any questions!

Heading to Laughlin in June for UPT, looking to see how base housing is like. Are there typically vacancies or is there a long wait for housing? How is home internet when living on base, thats the only thing I can’t get a solid answer on.

Going to be there with my wife, shes a high school teacher, I appreciate any info on the local school system.

Also if anyone is selling a washing machine and dryer at that time, I am in the market for one when I get there.

    Thanks!

My wife was a stud there about a year ago. Hunt housing is the cancer center of the whole on base housing mold and failure to comply issues. The issue is, living in Del Rio is easily 20 minutes to the gate.  Take that as you will.  Plenty of people do live in town, but it can be a drive for some folks.

Internet is fine, it is what it is. It's spectrum AFAIK and they just try and nickel and dime you for everything after awhile.

So I worked in Del Rio and Uvalde before I went AD and lived there with my wife. Their HS is okay, a lot of my coworkers went there. It's not the best school system, but it's okay. The Bracketville ISD is where a lot of people apparently try to send their kids, but I don't know if they have a HS or not as they're a super small town.

Feel free to shoot me anything else. I was there for ~6 months when I lived there.

So i spoke to a Maj at Randolph (I think he is the director of training) but he did confirm that those not going to IFS will be issued uniforms once we get there. He also pretty much said that they were not ready for 2.5 (no finalized syllabus, no info to incoming students, etc). He also told me that if there were any questions he wanted us to call them and ask because there is a good chance it is something they haven't thought of.

For example, he just found out today that no one has received reporting instructions so those should be going out. He was just speaking of Randolph, but maybe some of it could be applicable to other bases

Little bit of a gouge here for you.  This was briefed at Vance a little while ago:

UPT 3.0 is going to be with the T-7. That's planned for a 2021 takeover.  With the T-7, they're going to be giving wings BEFORE entering that airframe.  IE, if you want to track fighters, then you're going to be in a T-6 for 8ish months, get winged, then hit the T-7 for like 6-8 (undetermined now) months then go to a shortened B-Course.  UPT 2.5, which is the "Banzai" classes they keep doing, is going to become a real thing come this June.  It's essentially going to be the shortened syllabus with more practice in the beginning and tying it all together towards the end of UPT, with the early "track select" while in T-6s so you do more nav for T-1s, form for T-38, etc.

  6. I'm a September 2020 start date as well.  Unsure of base, CSS was out the door, but I'm currently permanent party at Vance so...

Edit: yep I'm at Vance.  Anyone want any living situation or any SA on the base itself hit me up.  I love it here so far, leadership is phenomenal.

A bit concerning..since you're on the older side of the applicants, and therefore you probably also had priority over younger selects, right? Any idea if there's a  difference in wait times between bases? Also, what kind of queep do they have you doing in casual to stay 'active,' lol?

Yeah Columbus is the worst right now. I'm at Vance as a Weather Officer and it's not tooooo horrible here, but I just hear how Columbus is the furthest backed up in every meeting I'm in about the subject.

Who are you guys going to for results? The Sq/Gp/Wing CC? I'm deployed and before I send my flight commander at home station asking, it'd be nice to give him the correct answer.hah

Our Group Chief just happened to walk through and he's asking the Vice Wing right now.  Just so happens our Wing CC is out this week.

I think Wing CC get the notification, but anyone on their staff can pull it, or should be able to.  That's how it was explained to me.

Edit: you work in the medical field? Nice name lol

These "new" changes are taking me back to 2013-2014 time frame when they were allowing cadets to turn down their commissions with no obligations to cut their numbers. Looks like the last couple years of pilot slots practically being thrown at people are going away.

I know some people who can barely fog a mirror that are going to UPT... ridiculous.  Glad they're shutting that down.

Perhaps there could be the same amount or more this year? It may have taken much longer for some folks to get ETPs and waivers this time around. I'm hopeful that the process has smoothed out a bit since last year, and the November timeline sticks...

Here's to it releasing in November...

AFPC told me last year they weren’t asking career fields for release, if you were accepted you were going... only caveat I think was AFIT/similar program commitments.

My career field doesn’t release folks to do anything (there’s about 190 of us in the AF) and I was selected, sitting at IFT right now.

But who the knows, there’s never any black/white in the AF... all rules/policies are elastic

This is exactly what I was told as well.  I'm sure somewhere along the line someone at AFPC can disregard the acceptance, but I see that as highly unlikely without special training under your belt that they don't want to lose.

Pretty quiet in here...  I’m trying for RPAs only again this year.  My current career field refused to release me last year because of my DEROS but hopefully it will work out better this year.  Good luck to everyone!

DEROS and your current career field should not matter when it comes to this board.  Someone lied to you last year.  I got confirmation on this from both my assignments officer and the board GS-13.

I see you’re weather. I’m working nights at the 26th OWS at Barksdale! Looking at applying for CSO. Question though, I haven’t gotten my flight physical yet. Do you think an Aug 12 cutoff isn’t enough time to get my physical done?

Hey dude!  Yep I am lol. I think you should be good to get it done, but you need to start now.  If they do what they did last year and allow medicals that were complete just without the SG signature, you should be good.  That being said, get into your Flight Med ASAP.  I know you're a shift worker as well so it can be a little hard, but just get in there and get your stuff started.

I needed a waiver and it took about 4 weeks on AD to get one.  The SG signature while I was still in ROTC took like 2 months.  Personally, I think if you start now you should be golden but you can't put it off any further.  Lemme know if you need anything else!
