I’m currently in the process of getting my uniforms ordered by my unit before heading out to UPT but there are hardly any more sage green boots left from manufacturers. Are coyote brown boots authorized for flight suits?

Looking at the redlines for AFI 36-2903 it says “(Add) 8.12.2.10. Wear sage green boots as approved in paragraph 6.4.3 and listed in the STF list for flying operations until coyote colored boots are approved and added to the STF list.” Since the 6 Dec 2018 STF memo has coyote colored boots I guess their approved now

Trying to figure out if I should retake the TBAS before the next active duty board. I have a 95 pilot AFOQT score. Can someone with a similar AFOQT score share their breakout of PCSM scores with flight hours?

My AFOQT pilot score is 97.

With 25 hours my PCSM is at 82

    41+: 86

    61+: 90

    81+: 94

Hah wish I had an answer for you, but I'm still undecided. Part of me wants to be in the fight as much as possible and AD is the avenue to do that, however I know that's probably a romanticized idea more than a reality from what my AD pilot bros tell me.

Not one AD pilot has told me to go AD over the reserves and I've probably reached out to 10ish (wide variety of airframes including fighters) so that carries weight.

I'm leaning reserves but at the end of the day if gets me into a flight suit I'll be happy.

Yeah, I've also been going back and forth for the past week. I'm thinking of holding off on AD UPT board this year and trying to get a Guard/Reserve slot. Luckily for me I don't lose out on an opportunity to apply for AD UPT if I hold out a year.

Best of luck with making your decision.

Great insight, I guess I'll need to do some soul searching on that. For me the biggest draw for AD is the adventure factor. More opportunities to get in the thick of things.

But I also have a wife and kid and the moving around is hard for everyone.

    Damn life altering choices!

So what did you end up deciding? I am in a similar situation with the exception of pinning on 1Lt in couple of weeks and not having a wife and kids. The main reason I want would prefer Guard/Reserve is I do not want to move around so much. The certainty of moving around every couple of years has been the "elephant in the room" for all relationships. Being able to work on my post-military career is also a plus.

Call or email the squadron PoCs and talk to them, interact on this board with as many folks as you can and make quality posts letting people know who you/why you want a spot/that you're not a tool, and attend rush/drill weekends if they offer and have convos with squadron members. You don't have to always be selling yourself; just get to know them and let them get to know you organically. You'll get out of it what you put into it and, for me, networking was one of the biggest leg-ups of the process.

Thanks for the info. Did you have any issues with non-responses from POCs? I am just assuming that delayed responses are probably from the POC not being currently on orders.

True stuff. I as well got picked up by an A-10 unit and it was my third interview. Moral of the story is keep knocking, keep networking, keep being a good bro. If you have the right attitude and determination then its only a matter of time.

How do you go about getting the opportunity to network? Do you just show up on base and head to the club and buy the first round for everyone? xD
