Yeah anyone heard back from the 457th?  A few people I've talked to heard outright "no" but I haven't heard anything since submitting a couple weeks back.

Did these people have apps that were obviously easy to reject or were they middle of the pack apps?

    I would 100% have a plan B.

The circuit is crazy this year, with fighter units getting 200+ applicants for 1-2 spots. You literally have a 1-2/200 or 00.5% - 01% chance of getting a guard fighter slot.

Than even if you do get a interview, you will have to spend around $800 on flights, hotel, food, car rental, etc out of your own pocket. And even then they interview 15 guys and pick 1 or 2.

If it takes you 12 interviews to get a spot, then 12x$800 and you are talking big $$$$. And that’s not counting all of the flight time you need to buy.

You can go active duty, but it is possible that you can get a class with no fighter drops (although not likely). There is a good chance you will end up flying a C-17 active duty when u could have done it in the guard/reserve with a much better quality of life (and more $$$ from the airlines).

You can also go navy or marine, but you might get a helicopter or osprey or c-130.

Morale of the story is don’t pass up a great guard/reserve flying career flying heavies or something cool because you are chasing something that probably won’t happen. Try for fighters at first and give it 100%, but don’t ruin a great plan B because you chased a job with a 00.5% chance of getting hired.  You have to be optimistic but also realistic as well.

It seems that some ppl here think if you even remotely understand the possibility that you won't get fighters then you have the "wrong attitude". Lol. Let's just all go in with blind optimism shall we?

To piggyback on that, I have met 2 pilots who told me they interviewed EIGHT times before getting hired. Just don't stop till you get there.

Just to help with a dose of reality. Persistency is indeed a very good trait to have. But we've all met many great dudes who have interviewed countless times and did not get the fighter slot they wanted originally. But they did still end up flying in the end. And thats what we're all here for. To fly and serve.

Apparently somewhere in the course of that drill weekend in April the interviews got moved up to 4-5 May. They aren’t doing visits that weekend anymore, they’re doing interviews. That must have changed after they sent emails to people asking if they wanted to come visit, would be my guess. See Ayz’s post above.

Ah got it. I see. So May 4th is now interviews week and not visits. I'm slow AF understanding today

A few of us got replies from SC last weekend asking to come visit during their May drill, which is 3-4 May, so I’d assume they’ll send interview invites out after that weekend. Not 100% sure though.

    No idea on JAX.

So visits and interviews on that weekend for SC? Am i missing something?

Yeah, I've been really careful in my e-mails to make my intentions clear, maybe that's the difference?

All joking aside, @Flying Pillows I'll PM you, willing to share what I can with a fellow hopeful. Were you able to visit? I figure showing up is what made the difference for me.

I didn't visit unfortunately. Kicking myself really hard for that stupid decision.

I think i heard couple guys got interviews to OK didn't visit either. So i'm thinking they must've had something on their resume

Did you ask for feedback from those units of why you were not chosen and what you could improve on?  This will help you with future interviews especially if you plan to apply to those units again.

Everyone who actually wants the job (which is 99% of the ppl that interview) ask for feedback. Asking for feedback is & should be standard.

And when you ask for feedback, don't expect to hear the magic words on what will get you the job on the next interview. Most of the time, (unless your interviewing skills are legitimately poor to subpar) your feedback will sound a lot like a high school date rejection: "we like you a lot but we liked this other dude better."

And this really is because every unit is different (as what literally everyone knows already at this point) and some units will mesh with you better than others.

The main thing is (insert generic inspirational quote) don't give up and keep interviewing. It will stick sooner or later.
