  1. Domestically, I don't find it happens that much, but most likely that is because of me.
Internationally, we probably do a bit more socializing on long haul since there are 4 pilots on the crew.
Seeing flight attendants on a layover is incredibly rare, though I am told SWA and AA party like rockstars with their FA's.
When not on a trip, I don't socialize with anyone I met at the airlines.
As for food... you're better off skipping the airline meals... using your ~3 day trip to get some fasting in... and looking for healthy alternatives near the layover hotel.
Yes domestically at the U I have probably had a layover with the FAs about 10 times in the past 6 years, of which I have hung out with them 0 times.

  2. I wonder if a ‘commendable’ would have as much a positive effect on you getting hired as a Q3 would on you potentially not getting the job.
Pretty much every application asks about failed checkrides (and stage checks in some cases) so a Q3 could potentially hurt your chances of even being called for an interview. Not an absolute show stopper, but not ideal either. Fact is most folks have had a bad day (or a bad evaluator) in a 10-20 year flying career so as long as you've got a strong application otherwise it's not really something to stress about.

  3. If a 365 is your biggest stumbling block, try to utilize the 300 in 540 allowance to reset the STRD. That's what I did. Still sucks, but I preferred it. Also, it seems your STRD is at or close to your accession date which implies that you've never been downrange much or at all in 15 years. If that is not correct you should get it adjusted to reflect your time spent TDY OCONUS. Of course, my gouge is 5 years old so if something has changed since then I'm sure someone will chime in.

  4. Sign me up!
Better to just bid reserve and get 75 hours of pay for not flying. That open time is going to get gobbled quickly, esp. this time of year when it's pretty scarce to begin with.

  5. I saw Once Upon A Time in Hollywood when it came out and I thought it was terrible. And I like Tarantino movies. IDK, there was like one or two good scenes and the rest I thought was super boring and pointless. To each his own!
My advice: just see 1917 twice.
This. Solidly toward the bottom of the Tarantino pantheon. I liked Leo in it, Brad just plays a toned down version of Aldo Raines, and there is no plot. Basically just a buddy movie.

  6. .”I have worked 3 days on short call this month so far.”
Folks, unless you value your time at zero, please stop saying this. If you are required to be within a certain geographic radius, fit for flying duty and contactable....you are working. Don’t sell yourself and your profession short.
I've run into a few folks that take issue with these kinds of statements and can never figure out why. It is a valid data point for making a decision on whether to commute or not. Are you concerned that mgmt. or some layperson are going to read this and conclude that we are not working enough? Because I'm sure that the poster values his or her time as much as you or I do.

  7. Had another IP do a touch and go on a 2500 ft uncontrolled field and no Q-3, after previously have been counseled for telling students to see how many continuous aileron rolls they could do on their solo. The student who broke the “record” recovered his aircraft around 2000 feet AGL, but was kicked out for lying about it. Nothing done to the IP.

I gotta say...this guy sounds awesome.

  8. If you want to fly as seldom as possible, WB reserve is your best bet. Those guys can go multiple months without flying. Of course it throws your "shortest legs possible" requirement out the window but, hey, nothing's perfect.

  9. True but the bid closes around the 10-11th, right?  If you have enough seniority you’ll have a good idea of what days you’ll get off (sts) before the schedule is released.
Well it opens on the 6th and bid packs are available prior to that (not sure how much prior as I'm a line donor) so if you want to look at it that way then, sure, you know your schedule farther out. But not really.

  10. Dumb question but need the info...
My wife is an ER nurse working a fairly demanding schedule that is made a month plus ahead of time. If I jump the sinking AD ship and somehow land an airline gig how far out are the schedules posted? Just trying to figure the future out.
United FO schedules posted on the 17th for the following bid period which starts on the 1st +/- (usually -) 1- 3 days so not alot of advance notice

  11. I remember a former C-17, now airline pilot said the good old boy network is still used at the airlines. He was telling me how they try to be all serious during your interview with a panel of their pilots. Then tell you to just chillax.
Must've been a while ago. Don't think any majors interview without a 20-something year old HR rep asking "Tell me about a time you hurt someone's feelings..."

  12. So which company if any tends to be better about dropping trips/minimizing your work days?
From what I hear tell, SWA has it pretty good in this regard. Maybe cause all their trips seem to be 3 days it makes it easier to plug and play, dunno.
  13. I hear Hereditary is shit your pants scary.
Any recce on this one yet?

I was underwhelmed. Lots of suspenseful moments that don't pan out. I usually like A24 productions but this one was a waste of time. Thank god for Moviepass.
  14. Ret. AF, hired at UA in Jul 15. I did all the prep (ECIC, job fairs, sim prep, etc.) and the one thing I always tell people that I believe got me the call was using an application review service. There's a few out there, pick one and drop the $99. Can't say with 100% certainty it made the difference, but I got 3 calls within weeks after having my apps on file for over a year.
