I thought I did  . I got it from my dad after he got a new car and it is on its last legs. Definitely wouldn’t make it cross country

I put mine on one of these: https://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/Auto-Transport-Rental/AT/

And towed it behind one of these: https://www.uhaul.com/Trucks/10ft-Moving-Truck-Rental/TM/

While living on base you can bike to work. I know two IPs that did that. Have fun when the afternoon storms come out of no-where. Off base? Best to have a car or live with/down the street from a classmate. Once you get off formal release you guys will probably want to leave base at different times though.

Not sure about the Uber situation in C-bus. Wasn't around when I went through. Taxis were pretty much non-existent. As far as one way rental at the airport, you will have to call the individual rental car companies and ask. Probably not many people here will have info on it cause probably 95% of us drove/had cars at UPT. I didn't know anyone while I was there that didn't have a car. IF there is a rental car company downtown that is also at the airport, I am willing to bet my paycheck the rental car company is about halfway between the airport and the base. Might as well get an uber the whole way to base, especially since the AF is gonna pay for it. Because once you take the rental car back downtown, you still have to get back to the base(about a 15 minute drive). So I hope you know someone down there or can make friends real quick with someone that will drive you back.

Honestly I don't know why anyone would turn down a paid road trip. AF only wants you driving max like 6-8 hours a day or something like that. Will even pay per diem rates for the hotels along the way. Spend the night in Flagstaff or Phoenix check out the sights, another night in Amarillo, OKC, Memphis. Or pick a different route with different cities, spending a night at each one.

Buying a car in Columbus, there are plenty of dealerships and used car places around town and in Starkville. Easy to get rid of? I put my car on Craigslist at 11 AM and sold it 8 PM. Internet is a beautiful thing. You could put it in the lemon lot on base to try to sell it as well.

I have read lots of your posts and respect your opinion . As far as I can tell , outside of a few intelligent pieces of advice, no one has given me any advice and if I smarted off to anyone it’s because I was insulted first. If you want to point out who gave me that great advice and I smart mouth him , I will more than willing to apologize. As for the rest, who are chiming in, makes no difference to me. I enjoy the banter and will keep respond every time I get attacked. I would guess a moderator will stop it in the long run . But I have to tell you ,  I like having political discussions with left wing snowflakes and I have to say the responses from most of the people here are are just as inane as I get from the snowflakes . Insults with Nothing to back it up with. Just because u say something doesn’t make it so

Never answered my question. Why don't you just take the Charger you have?

Interesting question,  When I finish school this May, I am basically going to have my computer, television, sheets,  towels and  clothes.  As I assumed I will be living in UOQ for the whole time or for a period of time, I am not going to need much in terms of furniture and I would buy anything I need.  So it not like I am going to need a truck to move my stuff.  So no I wont be living out of my suitcase, but I am not exactly moving in with tons of stuff.

You gonna check a TV into checked baggage? Why not just bring your Charger that you already own? I lived in the UOQ for a month and during that month I was at IFS. Those UOQs were terrible. The A/C was horrible not sure if you have spent much time in the south, but it is humid. When I came back from IFS there was mold everywhere in the room. Couldn't wait to move out of those things.

I find this whole discussion interesting. My initial question was regarding the logistics of getting to Columbus AFB without a car and the need for even having a car. I have commented that I could  buy a crappy car while at UPT and be financially responsible and wait until I leave Columbus to buy a long term car. My thought was to travel light and when l leave UPT I won’t have tons of crap to take with me .

Well sure you can get to Columbus without a car. You gonna live out of a suitcase for a year?

If you move yourself(DITY) the government actually PAYs you to move your stuff. Measured by the pound. Heavier your moving van, more money you get. You could buy a crappy car for a year, but why bother? Why not just buy a car you want to last? You think Columbus is so bad it's gonna get stolen or something?

I am admittedly a little late to the game here. I recently got back from an overseas assignment, extension will not apply to me, and have been searching for a quality place to get my ATP before the deadline. The only opening I could find is ATP Flight School in Richmond, I believe they are also known as allatp.  Not only do they have openings but they have a lot of openings.

My question is has anyone on here worked with them. A review of the Richmond facility would be ideal, but I would take advice from anyone who has attended any of the other ones. The fact that they have a lot of openings makes me think that maybe people are steering away from them.

Two of my mil friends just went here and said it was cake. $3,500 total.

Stumbled on an outfit that is just north of Baltimore, Middle River Aviation. It's close to home and the price seems fair. They've got a Grumman GA7, nice looking airplane. Anybody have an after action report on this place?

Buddy did it with them and said it was a quick 3 day program. Was $3,900. Honestly I'm right in the middle distance wise between them and Action multi(also 3 day program) and Action is $1,200 cheaper.

  7. So this is probably going to get me flamed but here it goes:

I never understand the animosity towards wearing blues if you're in an office environment. IMO if you work in shops like Wg/Staff, finance, MPF, and other back offices that never require and manual labor or getting dirty then there's no reason to wear a utility uniform. If you get the uniform fit correctly and tailored, it's not uncomfortable. I know a lot of the civilian business landscape has changed WRT to wearing a suit and tie to work (ie Mad Men) but that doesn't mean that the military needs to have everybody wear a utility uniform to make them feel like a warrior. If you're job is a support organization that is in an office environment, you should look like it.

Granted supervisors that require blind adherence to the "blues on a day" policy take it way too far when they require personnel like CE, cops, MX etc to change when they post or perform duties that actually require a utility uniform. Policies like that are retarded. Wearing an office uniform if your job is in the office seems like common sense.

    Flame away.

Funny thing is, it is only the 305th wing at WRI doing it. So finance, MPF, and other back offices that require manual labor are exempt.

  8. So you want to pack up and move at max 9 hours away. To live with a guy that is gonna be super busy for a year. Quit your job and find a new one. All to eventually come right back to where you already are in a year? My advise...stay put. There are enough 3-4 day weekends to justify taking a 9 hour roadtrip. If he gets Vance, even better.
