  1. The 457th FS is holding a hiring board for one F-16 TR position on March 6th and 7th 2015. The 457th is an operational F-16 squadron located in Ft Worth, TX that has a regular deployment schedule.

    The hiring requirements are:

1). Current F-16 4-ship flight lead required. IP preferred.

2). Must be on station no later than January 2016.

3). Must move to the Ft Worth, TX local area if not already there.

Please send your resume, last two OPRs, and last fitness test scores to LTC Jeff Cain via AF email.

    PM me with Questions.

    Cheers,

    Lord B

  2. Anybody enrolled, or recently taken the correspodence SOS course 20? I have been reading the required articles which seem terribly redundant. I am looking for some insight regarding how questions can be derived and how to even study for these tests. A few bros and I are looking for any help. Thanks in advance.

  3. I finished the FWQ program in Mar of '11 and there was much talk of getting rid of the program. As far as I know it is still available and only offered at Laughlin. The only real difference in the syllabi was the T-6 portion which was about 20 flights shorter. You will be "encouraged" to participate in the T-6 flight rooms and learn as much as you can. The T-38 portion was almost identical, but just different enough to keep the scheduler on their toes. In the -38 program we did all of the EPQ's and stand up and were part of the UPT class. I know the previously mentioned T-1 guy (great dude) and there was some latitude to finish him earlier. If you still have questions please PM and Ill help where I can.

There was talk of only offering it to AD AF pilots transitioning, but I dont know the current status. I could certainly call back there if it helps.

  4. Hello,

I am currently in the process of joining the Army to be a helo pilot. I understand after training it is a 6 yr commitment w at least 3yrs active duty. Could you after the 3yrs of active duty time make a early transfer to ANG/Reserve unit and fly fixed wing to fulfill your time for the Army?

I left a year early from my six, but that was a case by case thing. The stipulation was no breaks in service. It can be done, but I wouldn't broadcast your intent to jump ship. Obviously this will hurt your chances in upgrades, which will make you less marketable. 3 years was my commitment addon for FWQ. I hope that helps.

  5. PM me with FWQ questions. I am currently in the -38 end of the program, but could certainly provide insight on the T-6/T-1 syllabus and FWQ oddities. You must be a rated military aviator. There is no flight hour requirement, just an ARB. Let me know if I can help.

  6. Thanks so much ahead of time to all those who reach out to help those of us trying to join you!

    So here's my situation:

    - Former active duty CW2 UH60 pilot in the Army.

    - Last military flight Nov 05.

    - Currently civilian EMS helicopter pilot in Alaska.

    - 31 yrs old, 32 in May.

    - Going to school full-time online and finishing degree in August.

    - 2600+ TT (mostly helos), 200+ fixed wing on a private rating

I'm interested in flying for the ANG in Alaska (or a handful of other states potentially). Would love to make the leap over to the fixed-wing side of things in C-130s or C-17s, but would be thrilled to hop into an HH-60 as well if that's the only way back into a green flight suit. I've contacted a couple of folks from the community that have pointed me to this forum. So I throw it to you!

    1. Do I need a UPT slot as a rated Army pilot to fly fixed-wing? What about HH-60s?

    2. Can I apply to a board prior to receiving my degree?

    3. How does all this work out with regard to my age? (I'm thinking if UPT is required, this is a long shot)

Thanks so much for any help, guidance, or encouragement!

We have a very similar situation. (Army UH-60 warrant, 31 years old, etc.) I just completed the transfer process and am awaiting FWQ dates. I didn't have the break in service and I believe there is an issue over 8 years. Check out the AFI 11-402 pages 11-25. This will explain the transfer process. Once hired you will do an Aeronautical Rating Board to convert your Armt wings to AF Rotor Only. This is where the 8 years comes in to play. You would require an actual board versus an ARB waiver if over 8. Start getting a packet together and submit it to any unit or airframe you are interested in. Also, start contacting units you want to fly with. Tell them your current situation and have the regs to back up your story.

You do NOT need a UPT slot for airplanes or helos. For airplanes you will need to attend the Fixed Wing Qualification course. (This means a unit can hire you outside of a UPT board.) For helos you need a helo unit to hire you, then you would head to OTS and then Kirtland AFB for the HH-60 transition. Since you are a military rated pilot you do not need to take the AFOQT or TBAS tests. There is NO age waiver required.

PM with questions. I have some unit info as well.

  7. I think this article made the WTF thread on two separate instances.

    1. Ridiculous schemes people use to generate money / publicity.

    2. Simply because the words "French" and "Intelligence" are so close together.

  8. Can you change from O1 to O1E if you hit the points mark? Or are you just stuck at whatever you start with?

If you look at Black Baron's post, you needed 4 years or 1460 AD points as a Enlisted or Warrant officer. Once you commission (O-1) you are no longer accruing enlisted time, so you wont get the 1460. When they calculated mine, they only counted certain types of the points on your points summary sheet. I had reverted from a 2LT to WO for an 18 month deployment, which put me over the top. If "they" have the opportunity, "they" are going to do what is fiscally advantageous for "them."

  9. 1. The Garand is a time tested action that basically made its way into the M14 as well. I have never had an issue with any of my Garands jamming.

    2. I have had excellent luck with CMP garand accuracy. The important step, which was mentioned by Breckey, is the Bore Erosion Gauge. I picked up a second hand CMP gun manufactured in '44 with a stock that was replaced later in life. It is quite easy to find the correct parts to make your Garand "investment" quality. ie correct sights, op rod, wood, etc. GI wood is readily available(STS) and will require a degree in learning which cartouches go with what year ranges. PM with questions.

    3. Military Ball is available at gun shows everywhere. As Breckey said be careful what you shoot, or have a "shooter" op-rod. (the later op-rod was reinforced.)

4.This is a crap shoot. Unless you can visit, like Breckey did, it is unnerving to not know what you are getting.

  10. One of the best parties we threw in college was the 40oz. party. All the Seniors on my rugby team would bring two 40oz. of malt liqour and duct taped them to the hands of rookies and underclassmen. The rule was you could not use your hands until BOTH 40oz. were consumed. The exception was you could use the bathroom if you could talk a female into "assisting" you. Good party theme. You would be amazed at how low your standards go when your 1 1/2 deep into a King Cobra and nature calls. I know that doesn't help you Red, but it's just a thought.

aka. Edward 40 hands...Might be a bit much for a Squadron party, but it wouldn't be forgotten.

edit.. TORO beat me to it.

  11. Kandahar Airmen Use AFSO 21 at War

"After a brief Lean training session, the team proceeded to inventory all of the items in the shelter essential to the A-10 phase inspection operation and segregate the things they did not need or use. Once finished, the team straightened the area and gave it a good cleaning by sweeping the floors and turning in unneeded items to supply."

Okay, so they clean up after themselves and call it AFSO 21? Way to go dudes! I'm going to clean up my work area tomorrow and add it to my OPR fodder!

Great. Apparently there must be nothing else to report. It's a "little" ridiculous when implied tasks become newsworthy. At least it gave us something to bitch about.

Don't for get the "successfully wiped own ass" bullet.
