  1. xcraftllc,

Congrats, just said bye the 187th Viper dudes here in the ‘Stan. I’ve got a few RLO’s (O2/O3 types) I’m trying to help out that are prior KW drivers and now unhappy fixed-wingers on a 1 yr deployment. They realize the Army FW course doesn’t mean anything to the AF and are prepped to start over regardless. Pushing USCG to them as well. These guys are also in the Hood.

  2. My wing is collecting copies of drivers licenses and proof of insurance in addition to the MSF card, hazardous activities worksheet, and commander's brief for all riders. Is this normal in most wings?

That's about half of what the Army does at say, Ft. Hood TX. All the above to include pictures of your bike and PPE. 3 yr re-qual, post deployment refresher and separate sportbike course.

  3. anyone have any experience riding/racing in Colorado? I'm moving back to the US and really want to get back to racing, just trying to decide whether to go back to dirt, supermoto, or road racing, I only get to pick one this time around (damn kids are expensive) but it seems like CO has a bit of everything.

Still some of the best riding I've done while stationed in CO Springs, rode all over the state. My Duc salesmans was racing, this was right after PPIR closed, but there are tracks in the Denver area. For the offroad, sadly I bought my 450 after CO, and haven't found the good areas in TX yet.

    www.cosportbikeclub.org is a good start.

  4. Good watch, but seems they are just showing that AF assets as the only show in town for the mission. I get the focus of the show, many casual watchers may not know that there are many other units in-country with the same mission. I'm sure my flight medics would love to have all the gear in the back, I would like the guns and the maxi faceshields (we are not allowed to fly doors off).

Great to see the TOC action can be chaos as it is on our end as well, inflight mission changes, way off patient reports/MIST. My ? is who is the det commander, the ERQS Co or the lead CRO?

  5. Having worn the MultiCam A2CU downrange, I can say it's vastly superior to both the bag and the ABU (GTFO, right?). Granted the shirt is not sewn to the pants (sorry pointy-nose guys), but the cut, the material, the design and the camo pattern are all more effective for both flight (without a G-suit) and daily ground ops. And, OBTW, there's plenty of space for patches.

The single-source solution for all branches should be MultiCam ACUs for shoeclerks and A2CUs for aviators. All that remains is to make a 1-piece pajama for the ejection seat dudes.

Agree, now that we are back from our latest OEF tour, I have to switch back to the ACU/A2CU and then convert all of our flight gear back to the ACU pattern. Why not pick one earth tone color and stick with that for the flight gear? The Army Combat Shirt (ACS) is a fun one too, we can only wear it at the aircraft. Pretty easy in my Navy days, pickle suit for both flying and non-flying days, work uniform standing watches. (That got crazy at times, lovis patches Mon-Thurs, Friday was hi-vis/colored shirt day)

  6. Any club racers or racing enthusiasts planning on going to the AMA/WSB races at Miller Motorsports Park over Memorial Day weekend? How would you like to be part of the show instead of spectating? I'm attempting to qualify for my first AMA supersport race and could use 1 more crew member. No real skill needed, just hauling stuff from the trailer to pit wall, putting on tire warmers etc. You should be at least vaguely familiar with motorcycle racing so you don't do something stupid and get me in trouble! I've got a capable crew chief (hopefully) lined up along with one other person, but could use 1-2 more bodies. I'll take care of your credentials (access anywhere) and food etc so you don't have to buy tickets or anything.. Still pending commitment from my crew chief, a long time AMA superbike racer until 2010. PM me or email me at "jonappelt "at" yahoo".

Went in 08 and will probably not make it back from my vaca in SWA until the day of the race. I'm planning to head out to Indy for MotoGP again and maybe check out the NOLA track for AMA. Would love to be on the other side of the pit wall for a change and I have an umbrella girl if you needed one! Wish my timing was better. Hopefully the track near me in Austin will be on the AMA schedule next year.

  7. We haven't seen any major issues with our -701D's in the last 2+ yrs, then again we are not flying around max gross like SOAR with 2000+shp motors.

How much more would you guys need to do to a basic Army borrowed Lima for your mission, besides armor, G/EGI, robbies, ESSS mounted external hoist, at least to fill the gap on your hightime G's until the U's are built/delievered?

  8. I'm 5'7" and 150, so I don't think that will be an issue. You have a good point since I'm thinking if I get it, I might get the rear seat insert, but it might not be big enough for two people...

First bike was the 250 Ninja back when I was that size at 16, good bike at the time and fit my teenage budget. Good deal on the Hyo, so get it, besides you are probably going to drop it anyway. The bike is going to hate you riding 2-up, but should be fine on the open road.

  9. lucky I guess. I changed bikes and they farmed me to progressive years ago. The initial rates progressive was quoting were actually really good compared to what they quoted if you didn't get referred by USAA, but within a couple years they were quoting me ridiculous prices.

Looks like they now have a deal again through Progressive, tried to do a quick quote on the Duc, but already have a policy with Progressive. I've only had car experience with them and they took care of me, rental for almost a month, no questions asked.

Whatever you do, wear your GEAR, just lost a soldier here in central TX for not wearing a helmet, buddy in my unit was on scene 30 seconds after it happened, I couldn't finish my lunch after his story.

  10. What's the interaction like between the AF and Army at Rucker?

Zero when I was going through at Rucker. Never really saw the AF guys, only walking to/from the Huey's at Lowe AHP.

Coming from a Navy CSAR background when I was an "E", very surprised the Army didnt have it's own ready for deployment CSAR unit, something besides SOAR. In the AO, we where told the AF will handle it, but as it was stated, most Army guys are going to just pick up their own, as the case of several AH-64/UH-60 rescues. As a current MEDEVAC guy, the last thing I want to do is try to be a hero and fly an unarmed helo over the shoot down site of my Dash-2.
