Here's the AvB 2021 stat tracker site.  (Recommend viewing in Chrome)  Lots of interesting info there, and you can also go back and look at historical data.  There's also a filter section and spreadsheet at the bottom where you can find your MAJCOM/MDS/Base of interest and see what individual people are doing.

Numbers are abysmal (not surprising given the changes this year), with just over a month left in the window.  Fixed wing pilot take rate is still sitting below 30%.

Full disclosure: I'm likely signing the 8 year bonus, as I was planning on staying in until retirement anyway and I still love my job (most days).  The pros outweigh the cons for my family and my situation.  But this bonus would NOT have been anywhere near competitive enough to convince me if I was on the fence.

Anyone know if the recently marked NDAA from the SASC made any changes to the bonus?

Wait are we talking about AOC or Trump I can't tell?

    Yes.

Back on topic, purchased my first crypto today through PayPal.  Went with Ethereum, but for a very small amount... just getting my foot in the door.  Any thoughts on how it compares to the other cryptos available on PayPal? (Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash)

  3. Here's another shout out to Jon and Serena and the rest of the team at Trident - thanks for helping me with my refinance (VA IRRRL), dropping me from 3.99% to 2.25%!  This was all accomplished BVR from Ohio for our Florida home (originally purchased in 2018).  I did have to pay a decent chunk at closing because I did not want to roll the VA funding fee or any closing costs (title fees and required taxes in Florida) into the loan.  But otherwise no points or lender fees from Trident (just a small credit to help out).

Awesome, timely, and military-friendly customer service over the holidays to save us money in the long run.  Highly recommend Trident if you're looking to refinance!

Previous 2 posts are wrong. In my WIC class, there were at least 2 T-6 FAIPs going through fighter courses.

Being a T-6 vs T-38 FAIP has no bearing on follow on assignments.

There are also 3 FAIPs in my TPS class... F-16, B-1, and C-130 backgrounds.  I think they were all T-6 FAIPs.  Definitely didn't hurt their applications to have 1000+ instructor hours in a different airframe than their primary MWS.

  5. As an 08er at EDW, this is exactly what I'm curious about!  Lots of solid people here in my year group who almost certainly would have been school selects.  Now are we all competing with each other for a couple slots each year?  Just wish someone could let us know the rules of the game up front...tumblr_oebrmtfItQ1rl2k7fo1_500.gif

No more schools selects on O-4 boards, everyone competes separately. Getting that approved is  what's taking so long for release.

I heard this same rumor a couple weeks ago from a fellow 08er.  He's pretty well connected and generally has good gouge.  He also mentioned that they may keep the "selects" they have chosen but just wait to release them until they start the usual 3849 process.  It's just a matter of changing perceptions regarding the "haves and have-nots" when the O-4 results are (finally) released.

  7. Better late than never? I submit that we are getting far too involved too soon.

Your sarcasm detector appears inop... Friedman is right on the money. While the fighter pilot in me (sts) is itching to see some action, I'm skeptical of the long-term geopolitical strategy at work. This threat/conflict is so much bigger than a few JDAMs can solve. I wish we had really thought about the unforeseen consequences before going kinetic. What are we actually trying to accomplish in the long-run? What's the desired end-state? Obama says he wants to destroy ISIS, that's great I think everyone agrees they deserve that fate. But has he really thought about how difficult that will be and what comes next in the region?

  8. May I recommend mint.com (also available as an app) to track all your finances/investments real-time, see where your money is going, and calculate your "net worth."

Here's what it tells me (5.5 year captain pilot, single without kids or a house or debt/loans):

    Cash: $21k

    Stocks: $46k

    Roth IRA: $43k

    TSP: $22k

    Other investments: $34k

    My car: $28k (paid cash)

    Total value: $194k

  9. "Any national military force composed of Sodomites should send chills down the backs of other nations. The Sodomite Supremicists in full military regalia and well armed with nuclear weapons are coming to visit while filled with Gay Pride."

Just read this comment on an article about gay pride week in Afghanistan, and the imagery gave me a good chuckle. Maybe our goateed finance troop can lead the parade. Watch out Taliban!
