  1. Installations will use their organizational O&M-type funds to obtain required special uniforms (e.g., desert BDUs, flight suits, and other TA 016 uniforms which are not included as regularly issued uniforms which are paid by individuals from clothing allowance), as directed by their commanders or other competent authority. These uniforms and the matching stripes and accouterments are “optional items directed wear.” ... This is applicable to officers and enlisted."

Interesting. So the way I read this, they don't have to provide flight suits, but if they don't you need to get a clothing allowance to buy ABUs?

  2. So....TIB is performing in Wichita Falls tonight. I figured - what the hey, I've never seen them and probably shouldn't make fun of them until I can check them out for myself. Besides, there's nothing else to do Friday night, it's at the local entertainment center in town, and it's free...maybe I'll take the family.

Then yesterday an email goes out to the entire base, "All military members attending TIB will be in ABUs" (shortly corrected to include flight suits...apparently they just assumed no pilots would go).

God forbid you give the locals the impression that there aren't a bunch of military folks in the crowd. Sorry, I've been in uniform all week and I'm not keeping it on the go to a concert, so I guess I'll just have to make fun of them without ever seeing them.

  3. WSO charged with stalking, assault

An F-15E weapons system officer with the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath, England, will answer to charges of aggravated assault, stalking, reckless driving and failure to obey a lawful order at an Oct. 9 court-martial.

Maj. Matthew D. Pursifull, a 17-year veteran of the Air Force, called and visited the home and workplace of one of two alleged victims in the case between mid-March and early April after he was ordered not to, according to the charge sheet. Also during that time, Pursifull allegedly sent threatening text messages, followed the man and woman on “repeated occasions” and hid in the bushes outside a residence.

...and tried to run them down with his car, and burned one of them with an iron. Seriously - WTF?

  4. The comparison to Bud Holland is a stupid one at best. Near knife edge close to the ground with a huge aircraft (i.e. BUFF or C-17) is a totally different event than doing a roll in a King Air at altitude. You don't know the details and if you did, you'd probably be less likely to make a comparison to Bud Holland.

The comparison isn't about the specific maneuver, it's about a mentality that, when allowed to continue, can have bad results.

  5. This should have been a non-event.

IMHBAO, this seems like an over reaction to something that could've been handled in the SQ/DOs office.

Okay, I'll be the asshole. If what has been said is true, and somebody barrel rolled an MC-12, get them the fuck out of the Air Force. Flying a little low on a flyby is one thing - easily handled in the DO's office. Same for hugging the deck too closely or jacking the nose up too high on an unrestricted climb. Knowing nothing about the situation, this sounds like a couple dudes who pushed the limits of an aircraft past what is allowed in the T.O. This isn't a "momentary deviation", it is a willful breach of flight discipline. The Bud Holland analogy is spot on. Why in the world would you want somebody like this flying with you?

  6. Where can I find guidance on operating in a MOA while in IMC? Let's say I enter the top of a MOA at FL230 and there's a solid deck from FL180-190 that I want to descend through in order to operate below. I am on an IFR flight plan, but I'm not talking to or actively being controlled by ATC (I'm on a discrete frequency and monitoring Guard). I've been told different things from different folks - one is that you need to remain VMC while in the MOA, abiding by Class E airspace VFR cloud clearances. The other is that you can enter IMC because you're on an IFR flight plan.

I know which one I think is right, but I'm looking for something in writing to back up the correct answer. I've looked through 11-202, GP, and AP/1A - no luck.

  7. Okay, so I know the definition of a Numbered Air Force, but can somebody explain to me why we have them? They're the tactical echelon below a MAJCOM, got it. But if they're simply a staff asset to run things, why don't we absorb them into the MAJCOMs? And why in the hell do we have MAJCOMs that only have one NAF? Isn't that kind of like having an Ops Group that only has one squadron? What the hell is the point?

Got talking about this in light of all the budget cuts. Seems like we could save some $$$ if we get rid of the NAFs.

  8. Maybe he'd have a better chance if he had a little support from the so-called "bro's."

Maybe the so-called bros would support him if he wasn't doing the exact job with the exact same responsibilities as all of us. It's not jealousy, it's embarrassment. Talk about how great you are in the bar with the bros, not on the internet to win money.

  9. Bit of a revival - does anybody know if there is a reg governing deployments? I recall during mobility we had to confirm that we were not within six months of PCS in order to be able to deploy. I'm trying to confirm that once I'm within six months of PCSing I cannot be deployed. Additionally, when exactly does the exemption start? In other words, do I have to be back from my deployment six months prior, or can I simply not leave once I'm within the six month window?

  10. Revival!

How does the process of getting the enrolled in DEERS and on your orders work? We're looking at adopting domestic, but we live overseas currently. I would guess the adoption has to be finalized before the kids can get into DEERS, but since the process of getting your orders amended to include the children probably takes a while, is it possible to start that process before the adoption is final?

Since we are international and planning on adopting from the states, will the AF pay for the kids to fly back to our OCONUS location once the adoption is final?

  11. Along the lines of posting on this board and facebook etc. – I would recommend that people (especially at the Died) not post to this site from a government computer.... I have heard higher-ups mention this site, along with “the blogs (presumably the militarytimes.com blog about reflective belts).” I have also seen emails from the shirts to commanders reporting back the goings on of the internet and this site in particular.

That's an easy fix - just PM your info to somebody else for posting. I'd volunteer to pass along Deid info for the sake of the bros.

  12. Searched to no avail...

I've had on ongoing pain in my neck for the past couple weeks and I've been thinking about going to a chiropractor to try to get them to work it out. Is this something that I can get a referral from TRICARE for, and has anybody tried it?

  13. Looking through 11-415, I can't find specifics on a maximum age or rank. The only thing I could find was

5.6.1.1. Selection Board Waivers. Selection board waivers include TAFCSD, rank, minimum MDS/specialty experience, instructor qualification date, and total hours in PAA, as defined by MDS/specialty criteria in the nomination message. Waiver requests for individuals exceeding the TAFCSD time are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

But I couldn't find anything elsewhere in the pub that mentions a maximum TAFCSD (Total Active Federal Commissioned Service Date) or rank (did a pdf search). Does this mean that every nomination message sets a different requirement?

  14. Hmm, seems as if some imaginations have been running rampid over the past two days I haven't been on the forums. Amazing that this topic is now at 7? yes, 7 pages. Amazing. I now believe I have more of a life than most people who posted on here. :moon: Also I would like to say those "pictures" of me are nearly spot on. I'm 6'2" 179lbs. Simple concept really. Out of shape. I ran the other day but have yet to update the blog but will get around it when I have more time.

    I like SPAM. :bohica:

Dude...do you just not GET IT?
