  1. More kudos to Jon and team at Trident. He was able to find a great rate and close amidst the COVID crisis. I feel like he also moved mountains to help with the sale of our house (not his deal) when our buyer got into a bind with the slow closing process. Lenders aren’t as wide open to lend right now and are swamped with work. He got us through a tough time and we were able to door-to-door this PCS. Thanks Jon!

  2. Extended past May 11 but no new date released yet. CSAF expects it to go through August.

Tons of people affected. If you must move (mission essential/ME) the ETP process is pretty simple.

Just pressed to test the ETP. PCS complete as of yesterday. Now to quarantine 14 days before showing up to work. Outprocessing was a bitch with finance. They’re teleworking equates to let’s have 3 airmen in the office and not answer the phone. Only other issue was with the sale of our house, lenders are requiring a ton of background info to get to closing and are skiddish to fund.
  3. Just wanted to give another shout out to Jon at Trident. I happened to catch him at just the right time between flights yesterday (Saturday) and he dropped what he was doing to help out. This was a cold call that he wasn’t expecting. He got us what we needed and fast. Thanks again for your help!

  4. Yeah, Freedom Mortgage can go get bent.  I noticed immediately that my payment didn't go through, antennae went up.  Called my servicer (Dovenmeuhle), who said that the transfer was in progress, but that federal law prohibited any penalty or adverse action for 60 days due to the transfer.
I even went the extra step and reached out to Freedom; same answer.  60 days.  Got it.
So, about the 45 day mark, I reach out again to Freedom to make my payment and set up auto pay; lo and behold, there's a $25 "VA Inspection Fee".  According to them, it's not a penalty, but a VA required fee since I was so far behind in my payments.  They seemed to give a shit that it was their timing (triggering the transfer right at my payment date, therefore I start out 30 days since my last payment) and that I was talking to them to pay within days of the transfer.
Moving this summer.  Going to do all I can to ensure that sketch outfit doesn't end up servicing any future notes if I can.

Also watch on Freedom, when they purchased our loan they switched it from a fixed to 5 year fixed. I screamed up and down, they swear it’s “just a technicality” and that after 5 years the rate will remain fixed. I do not believe them. Luckily we are putting the place on the market soon so I will hopefully not have to press to test. Freedom Mortgage is pretty terrible if you ask me.
  5. I’ll ask some of my regional buddies, but I think the confusion may stem from any bonuses given. I.e., Skywest gives former helo dudes up to 25k for pilot training to ATP, and I highly doubt they’d be cool with you just leaving after 6 months if a major came calling (unlikely I know, but just an example). I would assume like anything, it depends on the contract.
Contrast that with a former Navy O-5 I know. He spent his last three years in the Navy at a desk, so he went to the regionals. He was a F-18 driver so he spent about 7 months there, got current, and got hired on at a major.

Yeah man my situation is similar to your Navy buddy. School then staff now I’m seeking employment with no recency.

I’ve not heard any first hand stories of any transition issues but have heard about friends of friends that were denied employment due to regional employment. Just trying to find truth data. Not really a good question for HR.
  6. Can anyone shed some light on which regionals/pilot union may preclude someone from terminating regional employment and transitioning to another large carrier? Example, is there truth that if hired by SkyWest you cannot jump ship for United before 5 years of employment?

  7. I know a couple guys who did VA claims in your same position, no issues with AFRC. I have one friend who was in your position and got the break X from AFRC...as he was still actively flying fighters on AD. I say all this to highlight there is no guarantee either way. The “safest” bet WRT still being in AFRC is don’t do VA until retiring. But, this is not statistically relevant data, and you’ll probably get a few data points both ways when talking to pilots.

Thanks Brabus. That’s what I expected.
  8. This seems to be the best place for this question (but not specific to the OP subject).

I am transitioning to the reserves after 17 years AD. I have chronic lower back pain (waiver), shoulder pain (waiver), a partially torn meniscus, and plantar fasciitis all in my record. I additionally have sleep issues and some hearing loss/ringing in my ears, not in my record.

In TAP the VA rep persuaded me to delay applying for disability benefits until I separate from the reserves in order to ensure AFRC will in fact bring me on. Has anyone navigated these waters? Looking for some life advice here.

  9. I’ll just keep answering my own questions since apparently everyone else who applied has peaced out.

The official email you receive with tentative approval explicitly states you aren’t cleared to out process. The guard/reserve unit then has to endorse your 1288 and send it back to AFPC to obtain final approval. I’m waiting at that stage. PC got to AFPC on 1 March, tentative approval 30 May.

Moose...I’m following along too. When I left for vacay last week mine had been sitting with AFPC PC Separations (after O-6) for 5 days. Nothing added from the O-6 to the form on my voluntary sep app. I tried to care but could only think about cold drinks and Cabo beaches at the time. Hopefully when I get in tomorrow it’ll have moved. Likely not though.

Edited to add: I applied mid-Jan ‘19 for a mid-Jan ‘20 sep. No rush yet. Hopefully AFPC doesn’t push it out much further though.

  10. Finally got in touch with someone useful who asked around and got a response on my package...

”we are working 236+ cases this week that have come back from assignments and will get to it as soon as we can...hopefully will get to it by end of next week, provided their systems don’t go down. They were down yesterday and wednesday...” and then the standard “please work through your ISR if you have any questions.”

Then they told me my 18 May separation date clearly isn’t going to work and that will be worked when I submit the final 1288 after tentative/conditional approval...and it has to be at least 45 days after I submit that final 1288 so they can process that one as well.

So, me asking for 3 months off adsc is now going to turn into 45 days for additional processing of the 1288, then 45 days of terminal. I’ll be lucky if I can PC even a day.

Ugh. Sorry your DOS is getting effed with. That sucks.

My date was 22 Apr not March. My bad. Thanks for reaching out and passing the words.

  11. I’m in the same boat...it’s circled back from AFPC and is sitting with PC since the 22nd.

i called last week and they said I had to allow them 10 business days to process...so I’m hoping by the end of the week, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve been a little off in their timelines.

It seems like they’re moving a stack together. My app has been sitting since 22 Mar with PC as well.

  12. Word of caution, as far as I know the legacy airlines save or print your app the day they send the invite to the interview.  We had to sit down and make any changes in red ink, so don't put down an availability you can't make thinking you can change it later.  I've heard guys advise to put down one date to get the interview and then change the availability as soon as you have an interview secured.  A change of a few weeks would be easy to explain, but if it is significant, that will probably affect your interview results.

Copy all, thanks. Not trying to game it. Just have a short window of opportunity, that if called, interviewed, and offered I could slip my FTU date. If that window closes just looking to move my availability date to FTU grad date plus about 6 months.
  13. My PC application made it out of the wing surprisingly quickly. It is now Referred to Palace Chase OPR. Is this the last stop or how many more steps does it go through?

I’m only asking for 2.5 months off of a PCS ADSC, UPT ADSC will be complete.

I’m in the same boat. That’s where my app is sitting. Been there since early Feb. They did upload a document last week that resembles an eSSS that shows the different stops within AFPC. I can’t tell if it’s current and accurate data or just a canned document waiting to be updated at each stop.

Unfortunately I don’t know the answer to your question. I do believe it has at least one more stop at SAF/PC for final approval or denial.
  14. 17 hours ago, ColoradoAviator said:

AMF, this is question for your new (Reserve) unit.  Are you being hired as a TR?  If so, they expect you to line up full-time civilian employment.  Does your reserve unit have any flexibility on FTU dates?  Airlines don't take kindly to those that move their availability dates around after getting hired, especially by several months.  You need to be available to start class on/shortly after the availability date on your app.

The window between your gaining date of Jan '20 and your FTU date of Apr '20 is barely large enough to allow enough time for airline training (indoc, systems, sims, IOE, etc.) before dropping a large chunk of mil leave.  And that scenario only works if all the dates line up perfectly.  Hopefully your new unit will provide you with some flexibility on FTU dates to allow you to pursue airline employment.

Appreciate the words. I should've been a little more clear. The unit CC is urging me to apply sooner than later to the airlines and will shift FTU around accordingly. I think the most important question that I have is if I do not get an interview/offer between Jan '20 less terminal and Apr '20 is it frowned upon or even possible to shift my date of availability? I'd likely move it to the end of my seasoning then. I don't think it would be an issue but there's so many nuances to this process you never know.

    Thanks again.

  15. I need some advice...
If palace chase approved my sep date is mid-Jan ‘20. I’ve been offered a flying position with the reserves at my current location. This requires 8-10 months at the FTU, also here. My FTU start date is in Apr ‘20. I’ve got some things to tidy up over the next year but should have all major boxes checked for the airlines. When should I set my availability date for the airlines? Jan ‘20? Or after IQT and subsequent seasoning?

    Thanks for the help.

Edit: Once an availability date is set can it easily be changed? Basically, if I try for the airlines for the few months leading up to the FTU and do not get hired can I adjust then?

  16. Anyone PC’d from staff? My app went through my CC last Friday. She referred it to AFPC then they sent it to “Wing Commander.” That’s where it still resides in the system. Had my CSS look at the CMS case and it does not give detail to who it actually resides with. Basically, I’m not in any Wg/CC’s chain. It’s not with my senior rater. The Wg/CC at my base does not have it. Anyone dealt with this before?

  17. I’m curious what ADSC you have to separate early from when you’ve been thinking about PC for 14 years...

I’m about to be in the same boat, paperwork will be submitted in the next few weeks. I’m only looking for 3 months off of a PCS ADSC.

UPT. Was late rated. Contemplated PC when I was a young nav. Got picked up for UPT then had to deal with a new 10 year commitment. I’m actually only asking for a month off UPT adsc and 5 months off pcs/ACSC.
  18. Dumb question but need the info...
My wife is an ER nurse working a fairly demanding schedule that is made a month plus ahead of time. If I jump the sinking AD ship and somehow land an airline gig how far out are the schedules posted? Just trying to figure the future out.
