  1.

I wouldn't bother buying unless you plan to be a FAIP... You're only going to be there for a year and a half or so.

Are you married? If so the family housing is not bad. We lived on base and had a lot of fun while we were there, mostly because there were a bunch of other married couples in our class that lived on base plus the dudes in the dorms, so we had cookouts and parties all the time within walking distance.

If you're single, I'd consider living off base a little more strongly only because the dorms are pretty small so you could get a lot more for your BAH, especially if you have a roommate or two.

Pretty much this.  On base is nice if you are married, on base sucks bad if you aren't and are used to freedom. On base in the dorms do bs room inspections and threatened to CR folks if they leave the coffee pot plugged in twice in a row or some similar crap.

Off base, stay on the North side of town.  South end is kinda dirty.  All in all though, Vance is a great little base.  I liked it.  There is a nice archery range east of town you can get signed up for at Bills and there is an indoor archery range near the base as well, although indoor is pricey.

Mama Titas for mexican, Jumbo for sushi, Waukomis for Coffee, the artisan pizza joint downtown, and Turkey Creek for BBQ.  Callaghans is ok, but gets old after a while.

  2. Anybody here shoot high power or have an interest in the old M1, M1 Caribine, and M14 platforms?

I am a fan. I have yet to shoot high power, but would if the opportunity comes up.

  3. You know... I am nobody. I am merely a pre-OTS USAFR know nothing. However, I will say that this is one of the most respectful first posts I've read in months.

I don't have anything pertinent to ROTC to add, but I hope AFROTC goes well for you! Good luck!

  4. This was entertaining.

Seems to happen every few months on here, but I don't recall someone so brash before.

Come on art, give it the old junior college try. You really don't know who you are speaking to here... Even if some know each other quite well. Flying is a small community don't ya know?

  5. You guys ever try the Arfcom exchange? There may be some good deals to be had (as well as some price gouging) http://www.ar15.com/..._Magazines.html

AR15.com is a wealth of knowledge... Both in the archives and just in asking questions... They aren't hard on newbies asking questions. Theres few things the gun nuts there like more than talking about guns to others.

The EE (Equipment Exchange) can be a place for good deals or hard to find parts, but lately the prices are pretty high there too.

They take welchers and scammers pretty seriously, but if you deal with guys with high feedback, high post counts and a paid team membership you will likely end up just fine.

I've been on there for a decade, and have never been scammed... And yes, there are a lot of crazy folks on there. But just stay out of General Discussion and in the tech forums and you will be fine.

  6. Hey guys. Quick question for you. I recently had my FCI at WPAFB back on Dec 3rd - 7th. Everything went great. I was informed by the staff that it would take roughly 30-45 days for my physical to be sent to HQ, stamped, and approved. I was wondering since this time has past how I can find out if everything went through ok. I contacted both my unit and recruiter and haven't heard anything back yet.

    Thanks in advance!

I was in the same group. I got my results a couple weeks ago. No waivers.

  7. Ras is one of the "featured" LT's seen returning from his 100th North Vietnam F-105 mission in the USAF documentary "There is a Way".

I was looking for the Bat Bird in that video... I didn't see it.

But, Godspeed, Sir... May there always be hubcaps to steal!

Your life and your work has affected a lot of folks in a good way (a few N. Vietnamese notwithstanding!).

  8. Anyone shot the Glock 30?

Glocks are good... Though depending on the coin one wants to spend an HK45 or shopping around online for a used USP might be something else to consider.

  9. So, there is a movement for Sheriffs and many citizens to say "I will not comply" with non constitutional anti 2A law.

What are the likely ramifications for active/guard/reserve folks that have made that claim?
