  1. The contact (Qual) portion of the RW transition syllabus is no different than the UPT syllabus (as of 1.5 years ago anyway). The mission portion is only 3 or 4 rides less. I can't imagine you're not going to get the Rotary wing licenses. There is a local FAA licensing dude in Enterprise that would know the answer for sure. As soon as you get to Rucker ask the registrar or any of the LSI guys about getting the FAA license. I can't remember his name but one of the LSI guys was the examiner to take the written tests.

    What unit are you going to? There are many guys in the reserve units that were prior stuck wing that would know.

  2. Okay it is only a few weeks after March, when the above memo says the Audit was supposed to take place. So it may be early, but I just wanted to see if anyone heard anything new. The suspense is killing me...

  3. Any chance they will be bringing back UPT-H anytime soon?

    Not that thigns don't change but the reasoning I was given at Rucker when I went through a year ago was this. The overall idea was to have everyone, regardless of airframe later in life, get generalized training in a fixed wing aircraft. Just so everyone has a foundation they all understand and can relate.

    With regards to Helo guys going UAVs every brief I have gotten was that anything is possible. Basically we are not immune regardless of past experience.

  4. I was just at KIRK for upgrade, and the Transition Course (for those who are coming over from Hueys, 53s, and Navy/Army) is approx 5 months long. There were 2 former Navy dudes, both qualified in the SH-60, who were doing this course. One was going to stay AD and be an IP at KIKR, and the other was hired by the 301st (Patrick - Reserves). He was going through as a 60 -1 IP, then once he gets mission experience he'll get Tac IP.

    Which unit is hiring you?

    My classmate, the guy from the navy going to patrick, is currently the most likely path you will take. He did the full Initial qual course with me. Like rotorhead said, it depends on how much your unit can train in house. My classmate ended up going back to patrick for the last 3 or 4 rides.

    If I remember correctly to fly an aerobatic plane you have to have a parachute for each person onboard. If so, for people who own aerobats do they own the chute or rent one. If owned how do the keep them up to date with inspections and packing. Thanks

  6. This is definitely a topic that deserves real and civil debate and I too hope it stays that way.

    The writer of this could not be more right. Islam and western culture are not compatible, and vice versa. However, in my opinion an Islamic person, or nation for that matter, has no requirement to reform their beliefs to fit those of western societies. An Islamic nation can coexist in the world community just fine even with all of their restrictions on liberty.

    The problem comes when the radicals in the Muslim community take it upon themselves to kill others for basically not being a Muslim.

    Regarding the GWOT, Joe, your metaphor about mowing a 10-acre lawn with a push mower is perfect. Yes, the fight does have to be taken to the terrorists. But a war on an ideal such as terrorism is about as effective as a War on Drugs. Realizing that the "war on drugs" is executed by completely different means (military vs. police) the comparison is in the idea. Much like the war on Terror several billions of dollars have been spent on fighting drugs without much to vouch for.

  7. Okay I have a hypothetical question for those who would know.

    Lets say you get married on a Sunday and you go on a week long honeymoon. If your wife gets injured during the honeymoon is she covered? This is assuming all the paper work has not yet been given to the MPF, the Med group and all that. Thanks in advance

  8. Okay, I need some advice

    I'm going to Brooks for my FCI/MFS on 9 May testing starts 10 May. Here's the question. ...on 8 May there is a concert I have been wanting to go to for the longest time. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this.

    Would you recomend against going to the concert two days before the testing since my hearing could be skewed slightly.

    By all means my shot at pilot in the USAF is more important than a concert when it comes down to it. But I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from.

    Just a little addition...I took an online hearing test (with headphones), supposedly its pattented, not 2 hours after being at a concert and passed it with flying colors.

    Basically do you think 2 days of rest is enough for my ears to recover...Man that was long...sory about that
