1. Well Great Falls or Helena would be a lot closer and a lot less shitty choice of towns driving from Calgary than Butte. And all along I-15. But I hear ya.

Hey, you could join the legions of Albertans buying all their shit here in Great Falls!

That and filling up the hospitals to get the care they can't wait for in Canada.

  2. .........I personally believe Americans are under taxed for the government we have....

I agree! But that's the problem, we have too much f*#%ing Government and government control.

.......... Stand by for the spending fight in two months.

God I hope so. Someone needs to draw a line in the sand over all of this spending.

  3. Before the U.S. defaults on its debt (hypothetically)... what are the chances we would enforce collection on the foreign debts we hold? As of Jan 2011 we held some $6 Trillion in foreign nations debt. Shouldn't we be forcing them to pay us, so we can pay our bills?

Yes we'd lose the diplomatic leverage of holding that debt, but wouldn't that be less of an impact than going under?

Great idea. I'm sure they are all awash with cash...... Ever heard you can't get blood from a turnip?

  4. Really? I saw it last night and fell asleep a couple times. Good thing people had cell phones going off to wake me up.

Seriously, it did drag a bit.

I thought the same thing. Also, not enough T&A and the whole retreat to the wilderness without taking a shit-ton of weapons and explosives was lame. To top it off, trying to escape while walking in the open swinging the flashlight back and forth was just stupid as fvck.

I saw Argo within the same week and thought it was a much better movie. But then again, my interest in the story may be because it happened while I was "Cold Warrior-ing".

  5. So now the story at NYT is "agreed in principle."e;

I frankly don't understand why folks seem to imply that this is a shrewd attempt by the administration to somehow swing the election. It's been their policy all along to seek negotiations with Iran, either the multilateral ones they reference in the politico story linked above or unilateral ones. That's not new or related to the election.

    .

I didn't say it was The administration. I said "And they never lie....... " With what I was quoting out of your post, I believe it is pretty clear They = Iran.

Edit for clarity - F.... Posting from an iPad isn't easy.

  6. Invalid. From the article:

Iranian officials have insisted that the talks wait until after the presidential election, a senior administration official said, telling their American counterparts that they want to know with whom they would be negotiating.

At the United Nations in September, Mr. Ahmadinejad hinted as much, describing the reasoning to American journalists. “Experience has shown that important and key decisions are not made in the U.S. leading up to the national elections,” he said.

And of course they never lie. If you don't see this as an attempt to sway the election to the guy they think will not prevent them from nuking up, I believe you're wearing rose colored glasses.

edit: to add this disclaimer. Of course the quote I am posting from nsplr is something he copy and pasted, not his words. I just can get this iPad to show it in the correct format.

Edit: Change they to the in my second sentence.

  7. Standard practice is to ignore sunk costs in most government ROI calculations.

Did I miss the installation and disposal costs in that calculation? Typical Gvt response to all of this "green" crap!

Edit for clarity. Don't know if it is more clear though.

  8. My wife and I follow Dave Ramsey's style of money management and are very secure in doing so over the years. We have a nice amount saved up, a great budget which allows us to live comfortably, yet save a lot of money towards our future. .............

................ However, I don't mind mentioning the Dave Ramsey stuff to others. You'll find that most folks have no savings of any kind, which is pretty scary. There isn't a lot of financial accountability among our populace, much less our government but I don't want to digress.

  9. I don't understand why so many people have a problem with following these regs. Why does anyone give a shit what we look like in our PT gear? Why does anyone give a shit about having to wear a reflective belt? Its stupid.

I understand it also doesn't make sense enforcing these kinds of things at an extreme level but rules are rules and this is the military. The only way to mitigate getting bitched at about them is just to follow them and carry on with your life.

The amount of bitching and whining I hear about reflective belts or PT gear or this and that is ridiculous.

If you are really worried about what you look like in your PT gear or feeling dumb about wearing a refletive belt, you're a ######.

If you aren't worried about that but just don't want to follow the rules, you're an idiot. Then, when you get bitched at, suck it up and don't cry like a baby about it.

Are you f-ing for real? What's next, helmets because that curb is so high and you might trip? It cracks me up to see these reflective belts on a base with a 25 mph speed limit. Are service members so stupid these days that they can not stay out of the way of a moving vehicle?

Dear God, our uniformed services and our Country are circling the drain!

    Edit: grammar

  10. Definitely, and unless she's referring to Jordan flying over someone's head for a dunk, I've never seen him moonwalk.

She probably means Micheal Jackson, hence the moon walking reference.

Uncalled for naming that POS in the same sentence as Neil Armstrong though.

Don't know how to put the salute and beers avitar in my post, but consider it done.

  11. I think part of the story in that link got cut off. Here's another link.

"In a recent survey, the Air Force asked 500 airmen who started out as pilots but had been shifted to drones if they would like to stay on in the unmanned aircraft field. There were 412 volunteers."

I think that is a LIE! What I understand is, it is very unusual to see someone stay a day longer than required.

    Do I have bad gouge?

  12. DOD does care because it's the law (Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007).

One desired outcome from DOD's Operational Energy Strategy:

Contributing to national goals, such as reducing reliance on fossil fuels, cutting greenhouse gas

emissions, and stimulating innovation in the civilian sector.

Then DOD and the jackasses who write these stupid "laws" will just standby while everyone bitches about the cost of the military. It's a damn shame to watch pilots go without training time to let very few sorties burn fuel that costs that f-ing much.

This "green" crap will be the death of our economy and therefore the worlds.

  13. In typical Air Force fashion, the UPT bases have no plan in place right now. I don't know if anyone below maybe a wing leadership level knows this is going to happen. I have no idea how the bases are going to absorb this because the flying hour program was cut for this year, the student load was subsequently increased (especially in phase 3 due to the T-44 program closing), and the effective IP manning rate is at its lowest it has been in a while due in part to the MC-12 deployments and the length of them increasing.

So, this is going to be fun to see how it is implemented. With most all classes behind the timeline this is going to be comical to watch.

Anyone have time to layout the plan they came up with?

Are all of the UPT dudes going to get a chance to get out of RPAs?

  14. I agree with you. UAV bases should be placed in better locales. Shopping, jobs and schools. That's what an area needs to have to keep the supporting structure of the deployed member happy. Placing people in CONUS chitholes falls in the category of "######ing with people when they're at home" which continues to be a big driver in the discontent. But read paragraph #1, it's not about you, it's about pork barrel. We all walk at some point.

Cuts down on that problem of too many O3's competing for too few O4 slots. Bring you in, give you a commitment, train you, station you in a sh!t hole and a bunch will leave as soon as you can. That answers for the RPA guys at Cannon, don't know what Big Blue is thinking about the other AFSOC guys there.

  15. As it's been said already: We're not saving as much money on this decision as it seems. TIB, USAF bands, and a thousand other money wasters should have been cut before we axed these programs.

Agreed. Unless the plan is to sing the enemy to death next go round.

What the crap does TIB and USAF bands have to do with air power.

    Edited for spelling.
