69 flight hours and fighter units aren't knocking at your door?!

So they're promising something they have 0% control of? Copy.
I would like to think that when Gen Welsh gives us his word, his successor will honor that. Only time will tell.

As soon as "don't fear the reaper" was playing in the background, he pretty much knew right then. On the long walk back to the rest of class, you could tell he was trying to hold it back. I kept taking occasional looks behind me to see how he was doing. Some sobbing, but nothing gross I would say. I didn't see him the rest of the night.
The dude worked his ass off only to find out only 2 weeks before drop that starting with our class 2 unlucky souls were getting reap'd, when there was absolutely nothing anyone could do at that point to increase their MASS (sp?) scores. I feel bad for him in that regard, but they are telling us that they will get a fixed wing after they are done with the RPA tour. He will be okay.
I agree, the right thing to do would have been to pull those guys aside and say, "prepare yourself". Dropping that bomb in front of everyone had to be done, but yeah, it could have been handled a little better.

Would anyone have a contact over at the 327th that has a hand in the pilot hiring process? Or a bro who knows a bro in the unit?
-
What happened there?
I think it was a case of not prepping himself for the possibility, maybe denial? idk

How did the RPA selects take it?
Vance: 1 guy was disappointed, but accepted it. The other guy, not so well.

We had a -135 student who washed out of IFF (going to F-22's in the HIANG) and just joined the -135 squadron at the HIANG.
How a qualified pilot would wash out of IFF?

Wish I would have had this information when my unit was going through BRAC last year. Thankfully, we weren't BRAC'd, but this can come in handy if, or when, the next time base closures come up.

If you have not registered for Mint.com I would HIGHLY suggest it. Its a completely free service and has apps on many platforms. (I have the iPhone and iPad apps, oh good for me)
It is very easy to upload your financial info that downloads automatically, which you can get the up-to-date look at your finances.

I think that the underlying issue with this is that our gov't not only screwed over military retirees by cutting pensions, but also added to the resentment by giving a big 1-finger salute by not cutting entitlement spending.
It is just a damn shame that our elected officials would sellout for those who do not contribute a damn thing for this country.

I just thought of this...
Too late to the game... http://www.gibson-barnes.com/prod-296125/Nomex-Touch-Screen-Compatible-Flying-Gloves.html
Can't argue against all your other sciency arguments, I'm just a load!

I know this is a overwhelming Air Force operator's forum, but I would like to say happy birthday to all Marines that derp through these forums. Although currently I am an Air Force loadmaster (and future AF pilot), I will always hold my time as a Marine Corps infantryman close to heart. Many memories, good and bad, but much like the Air Force, it is your bros that keep you going through the tough times.
Happy Birthday Marines past and present!

I thought he looked familiar. That documentary is one of my favorites.Branch was the CO on the Nimitz when they recorded that series "Carrier."

Hey DL,Does anyone else have advice on bring the family or no? Anyone else gone down there without family and regretted it? Thanks for the input guys its appreciated on my end very much.
I will be going to UPT with a similar situation. My wife and I have a 15 mo old and are expecting a second the week before my project OTS grad date. My wife has a great paying gov't job that she is going to take leave from. Which is great because there is not a shred of doubt in my mind: If I were to not see my family for the 1.5-2 years of pilot training I would go crazy.

Not in my Marine Corps!

Truly remarkable forum. Must be meant for whiny Air Force aircrew who can not maintain simple standards. Come join the USMC, we'll teach you how to fly right.
Been there, done that, couldn't be happier now that I'm on the other side of the fence getting paid the same as an equal rank Marine while enjoying a better quality of life. Enjoy your "fighting hole" while I collect a fat per diem check.

This whole scenario has "Sum of All Fears" written on it. Instead of crazy Nazi who uses nuclear bomb as a catalyst for war between Russia and US, it is Al Qaeda that (could have) used chemical weapons as a catalyst of war between Russia and the US.

They worthy of the site?
I was there this weekend. They must have had the B-squad out.

Apparently the guy who is exercising his 2nd amendment rights also decided to murder the daughter of the police officer in the video. Then killed himself.

Another thread revivial and piggy-backing off Taco,
I am selected for UPT from my unit that is "forecasted" to be closing. I understand the idea of switching units that are guard/reserve affiliated, but is it possible to go to an active duty unit from the reserves? I have scoured the interwebs looking for answers but nothing seems to be crystal. Any help/advice is appreciated.

"...carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both."
$62 worth of tax-free groceries just got a hell of a lot more expensive!

That is true because the junior airmen are generally not mature enough to understand the difference between the relationship at work and drinking with friends.
Agreed!!

Well, I am new to this, but I thought I would give my .02
I can't remember what documentary I was watching, but the documentary was interviewing (at the time) the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. He said that even though he is the highest ranking enlisted man in the Marines and one of the oldest, he still salutes the brand-spanking new 2nd LT. The reason he salutes is not because he is obligated to salute as per military customs and courtesy. The reason he salutes that young LT is because it is a reminder to that LT that he/she is a leader and they have to make tough decisions if they are the ranking member.
That said, IMO I believe that 2LTs should salute 1LTs based on the above example. They may have been promoted based solely on "Time in Grade", but in the end they are higher rank and should rate a salute, regardless if the person who renders the salute is a 2LT.
Bottom line: More rank = More responsibility. Show some respect. Render a damn salute and carry on about your business...

What does a new reservist do between different phases of training?
in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Posted
Between training phases, for the most part, your unit is going to have your orders budded up next to the previous training dates. Between training, my unit has, for the most part, had me go back to the unit to wait for the next training phase. You won't be on casual status at UPT or any other training phase.
Once you you are on orders, you will remain on orders until you are completely done with training and a seasoning tour back home.
