  1. Just to clarify, 1 AD of pay is the amount listed under 1 Drill on the pay scale, correct? So, as a norm we could expect 8 of those a month (4 UTAs and 4 FTPs)? Is the one trip every two months in addition to that or part of that calculation? If separate, what type of work is done during the UTA...local flying for currency reasons, some type of desk job, or just trying to knock out all required AF CBT training? Thanks again.

  2. I would also have a bit of a war chest built up. Going from fulltime AD pay to traditional guardsmen pay is quite a kick in the shorts. Especially, if you have trouble finding a job right after you separate.

    I know this question has been answered a few times in previous posts, but I'm sure it's different in every unit (fighter/heavy). Any idea on how much a traditional guardsman should expect to make in this unit on average each year (O-3/O-4 type)? Also, could you expand on the typical lifestyle too? One 8-10 day trip per month? Two shorter trips?

    And on a different note, can someone with experience explain the similarities and differences between AD tricare prime and the health insurance offered in the guard (tricare ready reserve)? I'm in a position where that little benefit has proven very beneficial lately and would like to know what I might be giving up in making the switch. Thanks.

    I know the TSP limit is 50k if you have been deployed. Does that mean if I was deployed at any time during the year that I can contribute up to the 50k for 2012? Or would I have to have been deployed for the whole year?

    Also, in reference to points #2 and #3 above from Finance Guy: If I make changes to mypay today to contribute to the Roth TSP option, will it not apply to any of my October wages?

  4. Just got the email announcing this. I understood it as saying IDP is pro-rated, but HFP is not. Of course I opened up mypay to see which one is on my LES. It lists both. Not sure which one we actually are getting since the loads always take care of the entire crew and file all the paperwork. So, a few questions...

    1. If we get to OEF for 1 day during a normal 7 day trip out of CHS, do we get 7.50 for IDP, or 225 for HFP for the month?

    2. If we get to OEF every other day (15 days) while deployed to OTBH for the entire month, do we get 112.50 for IDP, 225 for IDP, or 225 for HFP?

    3. Do we get tax free for the entire month in both of the above cases, or is it pro-rated as well?

  5. I understood this change to mean that its really only a benefit if your spouse doesn't work. I thought if your spouse had a job in your current state that is not your state of residence, they would still have to pay taxes to that state. Is this not correct?

  6. I need some serious help from someone in the know. I have sent a PM to Finance Guy with a few more specifics, but also want to get input from you all in case someone else has had experience with it.

    First, how do I know if I will be receiving a W-2C? Second, if I am getting one, when will it be sent out?

    Background: I got the regular W-2 on Jan 24 and I'm 99% sure it's wrong. I got tax free 6 months last year (Jan, May, Sep, Oct, Nov, and Dec). So let's say my August LES showed my taxable income as X. Since I got the rest of the year tax free, it would stand to reason that my W-2 should match what my August LES said. It doesn't. What's worse is I can't even figure out how they came up with the figure they did. I thought maybe they just forgot to process one of the months as tax free, but the W-2 amount doesn't equal my August YTD taxable income added to any of the other months.

    So far, I have been to finance at least 5 times (including this morning) to try and figure this out. The first time was back in November and they opened a CMS case to fix it. That case was closed the first week of January (and marked that it was fixed). Finance keeps telling me to call DFAS, which I have done 3 times, but they keep telling me to go back to finance and open another CMS case. When I tell finance to do that, they tell me it was already fixed. They also tell me that a W-2C may be sent to me--but they cannot tell me for sure if I'll be getting one or when to expect it. Has anyone else received a W-2C this year? Any advice on where to go from here? I'm ready to punch someone in the throat!

  7. Do you know all the locations that have flying spots--whether or not they had an opening in the last few months? Someone above mentioned 14 locations as of a few years ago--any idea what they are? Or how to get in contact with someone doing the job now? I could possibly try contacting their functional if I knew their AFSC?

  8. There are 14 different locations out there.

    Most are joint billets so the answer to your question would be true: not all the pilots are air force, but all have to fly by USAF guidance/regs.

    I'm looking into future assignment possibilities and am super interested in flying the C-12 at an embassy. However, I can't seem to find any info on which embassy locations allow you to fly the C-12. I spent what seemed like forever trying to find info on AMS and AFPC with no luck. I also searched a number of threads on this site but couldn't find a recent list of what embassy locations still have the flying gig. Are there still 14 locations out there? Anyone have a current list? I'd also be really interested in contacting the person who has one of these jobs currently to ask them a few questions. How would I find their contact info? The global? The FCG? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  9. With any luck, I should be moving soon (read: as long as I don't FAIP). When I do, I'd like to finally make that airplane purchase I've been thinking about for some time now. Been trying to figure out costs to airplane ownership, and one of the biggest variables has to do with insurance. A big factor in determining insurance cost is total time. Does anyone know if "sim" time from UPT counts towards this or not?

    I overheard another UPT STUD talking with a friend saying he just purchased the first part of his kit plane to build in his "spare" time. I know next to nothing about kit planes, and have been trying to do some research. A lot of the experimentals look shady, and I'm sure they'd be made worse if I were to build it. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a reliable kit plane that an ameatur could build. I would like it to be a four place that can do 600-800nm cross country trips cruising between 150 and 200 KTAS as well as aerobatic. Is all this too much to ask? The RV-10 looked good, but I read somewhere it can't do aero. Can anyone shed some light since I'm pretty ignorant to this subject? Also, I wouldn't have to have a "kit" plane, it just seems like the cheaper way to go. If it were affordable, I wouldn't mind buying a certified airframe. Thanks in advance for the replies.
