    I assume the pain is being spread across all UPT bases. Is that correct?

    From what I understand it hurts XL more because we rely on temporary contractors more "due to the challenge of attracting permanent workers to the Del Rio area." (Paraphrased)

    International, Guard and Reserve have priority, especially if it comes to a washback pool.between Phase 2 and 3.

    Recently spent $500+ for my wife to get certified in Texas, even though she was qualified in FL. I understand states have different standards, but it should at least be free/cheap to go from state-to-state. Fortunately, I remember seeing something recently about the White House helping out military families with this type of stuff... but I doubt we'll see anything useful anytime soon.

    A number of my friends' spouses got on/near-base jobs recently, but they aren't really career type things... but that level of employment is tough at a UPT base. My wife is working on her Masters and hopefully taking a few substitute teaching days once our puppy's bladder grows.

    I use that + Malwarebytes Anti-Malware + CCleaner. Gets the job done.

    Symantec or MacAfee will get the job done most of the time. I have an infinite subscription to MacAfee enterprise (just virus scan and not all the other crap I don't need). AVG is good as well and free if you don't want to be paying. The MSE package the successor to Defender and works well, but MacAfee always seems to pick up any trojan/suspicious script i run across online. CCleaner won't really find viruses, but it's great for cleaning up your drives and registry.

    Of course, Napoleon is dead on. I avoid stupid shit and never get viruses. Stupid links, file sharing and sexy prons are easy ways to kill your machine.

    If you are not 20/20 in one or both eyes, you will be required to use correction when you fly at UPT.

    Quick update:

    Yeah I will be wearing a pair of flight glasses during UPT. I guess they aren't really required for IFS because I'm good enough to pass FAA standards. PRK (I don't want lasik, even though it's a 1 month, painless recovery) would put me on DNIF for only 3 months so the Doc said it might be worth trying to do after I graduate if I've got a while before my PCS.

    Some of the IPs I work with in my casual job recommend kmowing Boldface/Ops Limits 100% and then looking over sections 2 & 3 of the -1 like you guys are saying. One is also saying if I practice some checkology and startup flow (chairflying with a good paper cockpit) then the IP will love not sitting in the cockpit for an hour with no A/C in the middle of Laughlin summers. All sounds like sound advice, but I probably won't focus on the T-6 too much until after IFS, that's my top priority for now.

    So where can I get a current copy of the T-6 Dash1 and local procedures? The t6driver.com link to e-pubs doesn't work anymore and I tried searching for it. Will the bookstore give me a copy prior to Phase 1?

    Also, anyone know of some good gouge/local stuff for IFS (besides Boldface/OpsLims)?

    70% of the people (all ROTC accessions) here are TDY en route to their respective training bases. So, that means that for this group of LTs (myself included), it is their first time functioning in the AD environment. While doing the curriculum, etc, we are still trying to track down our pay stuff, get BAH for our families (if we have them), etc. In addition, we are still walking around looking like dip shits because TD-1 is our 1st day of active duty.

    I'll have a whopping 2.5 months when I go. At least I should be getting paid/reimbursed for my PCS by then and won't have to worry about much paperwork. My casual job is actually legit right now so this should be a good break.

    I passed my FC1 physical last winter but want to know if the AF will pay for PRK once I'm on active duty (only a few weeks now). I've never worn glasses/contacts because my vision was 20/20 until my right eye got hit with a soccer ball a few years ago. Now it's like 20/30 or something in the one eye so I still don't use glasses, but the flight doc at Brooks said I'd need a cheapo pair of lenses (well, one lens and one piece of plain glass) for IFS. I'd rather not have to worry about glasses during IFS and UPT. Will I actually need the glasses with this kind of vision? I realize I would be cutting the recovery time pretty close to my TDY's (ASBC in Feb, IFS in May) and I know there's an even longer grounded-period post-op that might cut into IFS/UPT class dates.
