  2. FWIW you live and die by the gouge. I glanced through the stuff that was on baseops but mainly studied the real deal at IFS. Sure it's great to have but like previously posted it's probably going to be old. Best advice IMO after you get done with the academic classes (mine ended on the Friday after I got there), read it all over that first weekend. Yeah it sucks to waste a weekend to read it, but it is one out of many and your focus should be to get through the program not to go skiing etc (not saying that you shouldn't have fun, but study first). Know the bold face and ops limit cold. If you are able to get some time in before going to IFS do it, but don't worry if you can't. This program is designed for people with no time and you will be fine. Lastly, help out your flight mates when they need help and don't be afraid to ask for help either.

I just finished up here, and it is a well designed program. If you have any questions PM me and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. Remember though that this program also shows you your own learning habits and what not, so whatever worked for me might not work for you.

PS - Go to the tower and give the controllers a class/flight patch. They listen to you screw up comm all day ever day, and they will appreciate it. Apparently I was the first one to give them one.

  3. Dude I never said any of that crap you quoted me as saying....it was the E-9 we've been discussing...good on you though to post pics of boobs, otherwise your post was a complete fail

With how many emails this dude sends out, he would quickly be put on auto delete.

I know that it was the E9 that we have been talking about. I just took out everything cause it was a long post and only put the shit I wanted to make fun of on there. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  4. They won’t see the countless hours on post or our “hot & dirty” maintainers turning wrenches on the flight line.

    33743.jpg

Our visitors will see very few Airman in the trenches. They’ll drive by and see people walking about. Their uniforms and personal grooming will speak for the wing as well. Good or bad…uniform wear is also a voice. The way we’re represented will speak for our entire service…especially if the viewing party is a coalition leader or US Government official.

Oh wait; time out bad guys!! I got Aziz's blood on my ABU jacket; let me just go get a clean one or find a Tide stain pen so I can continue fighting. Okay time in bad guys!

Thanks for that pic. Its been tweaked a bit STS:

    My turn.

I was back home not too long ago and somehow ended up chatting with a few gents that just happened to be elected officials. At one point, we chatted about the military. Want to guess what impresses them? I ain't no creed, chant, or cheer. They see right through that shit! Its the personal stories and seeing our guys in action. Take some of them out on a range and show them a team taking on the "enemy" and they just beam with pride. Tell them a story like the "Pedros" rescue, and they'll eat that morning noon and night for a month. Listen to them in their speeches. They never say, I went to base x and all the airmen chanted a creed and sang a song. No, they pull the personal connection string, "Let me tell you about SrA Joe Somebody, he's a real hero." Dogs and miniature horses shows are a waste of everyone's time. There are so many other great ways to tell a story of our efforts and not one of them involves a chant or song. Besides, looking a little disheveled adds to our true salty nature. There's a reason why Americans love the Dirty Dozen and any other scrappy team.

So, to our deployed command chief, I offer this viewpoint. Make mission first. When a codel shows up, show them people doing the mission. Let them step on a hot, dirty Herk as maintainers are getting her ready for a mission. Show them EOD taking care of business. Let them sit down for chow in the main room (not the special little room) with everyday joes. You get the point. When they leave, they will have seen the mission and gotten a few personal stories to tell their constituents. Lastly, since when is it the job of the US Military to please and stroke politicians? I thought it was to fight wars or do some of that Constitutional defending stuff. Reciting a chant will not protect the defense budget.

Now that everyone is doing mission first, there's no need to recite any songs or chants. However, I will offer this about the chant. If it was such a great and inspiring piece of literature, people would want to know it more that the latest Katy Perry song.

Lastly, I will end with some leadership. It stuff like this that makes my job essential. And that is to reset the priorities of those I work for, but more importantly, those that work with me.

    Out

I think this explains why people like Katy Perry's (or maybe just her) songs so much:

In all seriousness I do agree with disgruntledemployee, and I agree with going after this dude's boss too for letting this crap happen.

    Also +1 for tits.

  5. What's wrong with the Air Force?

The Air Force used to be this:

    Robin_Olds_during_vietnam_war.jpg

And now the Air Force is this:

    DSW-01.jpg

ROCK BOTTOM LINE: Don’t get confused and think that all of the aforementioned things are “Chief Xxxxxxxx's” requirements. Nope. Those are the result of 74 years of history/heritage. All of those requirements are purposefully stated in AFI’s signed-out by General Officers and by YOUR Wing Commander. They are also enforceable under Articles 92 and 134 of the UCMJ. Make no mistake about it…we simply execute policies, standards and directives…our Commanders create them...and the cycle will continue for the next 74 years - with, or without us.

    V/R

    Chief Xxxxxxxx

Well Chief REMF you can take that "history/heritage" and do the following:

    1) Roll it in a cone

    2) Sit on it and spin

    3) Recite Airman's Creed

I fear the day when I am in combat, and right before I engage a target I get asked "Did you fill out the form properly? You are not allowed to engage the target because you didn't check the box properly."

  6. 2) How are you getting around the power issue (for those of us that do not have a power outlet)?

    5) How are you protecting them from damage?

    2) google found this linky

    5) As for protection, my sister has been rocking an Otter Box Defender on it for a while. She's dropped that thing, tossed it around etc etc and it still works like a champ. Case

I'm considering making an app, something on the lines of ForeFlight. Any suggestions on what you would want to see differently or something that ForeFlight can't do? (Besides porn).

  7. Just got back from Oshkosh. Here is my picture contribution...

From what I saw they did 2 go arounds and both F16s looked funky doing them STS. They just looked off. Guess we will find out what happened soon. Glad the pilot was able to get out safely and no one else was hurt! If you are unfamiliar with Oshkosh, it is pretty much controlled chaos about all the time. To my knowledge a couple of people lost their lives a couple of days ago there at the seaplane base from a crash trying to land out there or something. RIP to them.

  8. Hey all,

I'm heading out to Columbus Oct 1 with future wife in tow and I was just curious on what all has been changed or updated, either on base or the town. I know that they have updated the housing which is great, but is it worth it to live there? The wife and I are saying yes to live on base for a couple of reasons: so that she can get adjusted to the whole military thing, and for me going for UPT. I keep getting mixed signals from people saying that living off base is the better route so I guess I am just looking for some advice on this to help back our decision.

Also, any advice on spouse jobs would be great. She has a bachelors in Spanish with a teaching certificate, basically looking to teach but is open for other opportunities.

    Thanks!

  9. Thread revival...

So I'm a soon to be commissioning/graduating cadet from ROTC (in May), and its time for my class to do a prank on the rest of the corps. Unfortunately the rest of my class really isn't too creative, and my ideas really aren't the best either, so I was wondering if anyone out there had any good pranks that they did back in the day that could be done at a detachment with limited cost. I'll take pictures and/or video to show the results.

Any ideas will be appreciated! Thanks!

  10. Sorry to bring back an old topic but I am thinking about applying for the program. I'm graduating in May 2011 with a CSO slot. I've read the memos from Col McCain and was curious to see what you all think. I have a buddy who PCS to PCola back in Nov of 2010 and was on casual for quite some time. I was thinking that this would be a good thing to get into just because of the wait time to PCS and then the casual time. Any advice will be appreciated!
