FWIW and some SA for everybody the guard sent dudes and dudettes through the two OTS/BOT summer classes last year with active duty and reserve. And from what I understand it went better than expected, and outside some paperwork type issues the integration was fine. I don't know for sure but I'm willing to bet that the increase in class length is to ease the shock of the two courses merging. It is what it is. An extra 3 weeks sucks but most on here are going to UPT or UNT so an extra 3 weeks in the scheme of what's ahead shouldn't really matter.

BOT is 9.5 weeks long. Unless they changed it which is doubtful What are your new date ranges? I do know that last year they added some days to the orders for AMS but the actual class length was 6 weeks

A buddy of mine just got UPT dates. He graduated from AMS 13-04

The FY14 dates are up on the ots website. Has anyone here heard about guard dudes going to BOT on a trial basis. I believe it starts this month?

The guy ahead of me in the timeline at my unit received dates early last week. I am 'the next in line' and was told any day now.
Also, if you google AMS or OTS class dates, they released the FY14 class dates online. (if you wanted/needed to know those particular dates, I did for my job).

Red fox: you're getting some solid advice here, like everybody has said fly as often as you can. Study, be prepared for every flight, and ask questions. Your instructor should brief you on what to expect each time before going up and he or she should debrief the lesson and give you feedback on what went well, what you need to work on and what to expect for the next lesson. For the studying portion read the Pilot Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge and the Airplane Flying Handbook both are a bit dry and may help cure insomnia but they are free on the FAA website and cover a good portion of the material on the written. Research part 61 or part 141 that's where the requirements for private pilot are found. Chair fly the maneuvers, pratice the head work it will help. Try to fly out of a quiet field if that is possible, also you don't need to learn in a fancy plane with the latest avionics or gps however do make sure the plane is maintained well, ask to see the aircraft logbooks and if they don't show you find another school. Could be they are trying to align AMS with BOT a little more with the whole title 10, mess dress, and increase to 8 week thing.
In regards to mess dress, I'm not sure what kind of free time or phase privileges you will get in the 8 week program, but there is a place just outside of the gates that has mess dress for rent for much less than owning.
