  1. Talking investments is like talking politics or religion. No one agrees and thinks their way is the best. I've seen dudes do the Ramsey deal and it worked for them (although it turned them into cheep asses that didn't pay for shit and refused credit card roulette and combat splits on TDYs). I think everyone needs to find what works for them. Personally I live for today but save for tomorrow. I realize that I'm probably close to my pinnacle of pay, and choose to enjoy it. I feel I'm smart with my money and still tuck about 35% away. Seriously you have to live. Spend that shit, buy something nice, enjoy it! Life is short...

I would argue that example is apples and oranges. There is not an AFI in existence that has been around even remotely as long as the custom/courtesy of saluting. We complain about having no heritage, no history, and one of the few things that has stuck around in virtually every military in the western world...that's the one that folks think is OK to disregard.

We are our own worst enemy.

And I would disagree. I get that Lts and Capts should salute (we don't always, but should). But as a Lieutenant no matter 1st or 2nd, you're still a Lieutenant. ID card doesn't differentiate. Its like and AB-A1C calling each other sir, doesn't happen. Their ID Cards all say Amn (I know I was one). I don't think that it shows a lack of "heritage" or "custom/courtesy" I think it is an acknowledgment that you are new and are not in a position to command each other (at least in the fighter community). There is a larger difference between a new Capt and a senior Capt than that of a 2Lt and 1Lt in both experience and leadership responsibilities. I don't get it, the ones that are complaining about the lack of heritage are usually the ones in a position to do something about it. I assure you it's not the Lt's ruining the heritage in the Air Force (they're the ones fighting for it).

  3. I'm surprised we are still talking about this. When I first saw the thread title I was sure we were going to laugh at shoes and the like, but I stand corrected. I had no idea that this was such a big concern. I'm pretty sure as a Lt I can count on one hand how many times I either saluted a 1Lt or received a salute from a 2Lt. Never thought twice about it. Apparently the Chiefs and Shoes have conquered the reflective belt issues and blatant disregard to PT uniform policies across the combat theaters and now are focussing on something much more detrimental to the combat effectiveness of the Air Force. Maybe when I'm an O-5+ or go do a staff tour I'll understand the "Big Picture." Until then however I'll continue joking in the bar about how Lt's saluting is gayer that two dudes fu#@ing. :banghead:

  4. You know the no-shit rated guys out of UPT don't have to go to sere right? Personally I think it blows because when they get their follow-ons guess who gets to play class leader?

You really don't think your job is dangerous? I scare the shit out of myself at least once a week... thats what makes it fun! And I thought I got laid at my HS reunion because I was just so dang good looking.

Wow! Im glad I don't fly with you. I've had the occasional pucker moment, but if you are scaring yourself at least once a week you probably don't understand you aircraft/personal limitations.

  5. Fakes outed everywhere.

Personally, if I want to read about ninjas, I go straight to the source.

This was priceless laughed my ass off!

But if you want to commit Seppuku and you’re like me, you don’t have access to stuff like lasers. But there’s hope. I tried to kill myself by swallowing a frisbee a couple of times—and believe me, it’s pretty cool. The only catch is you have to be really super pissed to do it.

Step 1 Get a frisbee from the store or friend.

    Step 2 Clean the Frisbee.

Step 3 Make sure your parents aren’t around

Step 4 Put something slippery on it, like butter or cream.

Step 5 Get really super pissed.

Step 6 Fold the Frisbee hard (this is crucial)

Step 7 Keep folded and insert Frisbee into mouth hard.

Step 8 Push hard until you can’t see it.

    Step 9 Wait.

    Step 10 Die.

  6. This is the stupidest thread in a long time. After 3 pages of reading I have concluded that no one really knows what happened to with this stud in Columbus, and everyone thinks that everything that can run on Jet-A is a Jet...Wow! Oh ya the T-6 may not be a jet but I know my Jetta is!!! Not only can it run on Jet-A but it has Jet in the name!

    Cheers

  7. So far everybody I've talked too who's come back from IFS has been so cynical about the whole experience. What makes it so bad? Other than not flying..I'm not flying now.

It's not bad. I'm here now and you have the normal people that no matter the situation will find something to bitch about. You will fly basically everyday unless weather is bad. It is set up a lot like UPT. From the morning brief, to the stand-up, EPQs, formal release, ect... Suck it up, and like it. The DA-20 is a fun plane to fly and it is way better then hanging out on casual. They are talking about flying again this Saturday and the whining and gripping has already began. I swear some of these guys could be dying of thirst and you would give them a glass of water and they would bitch that it was warm.

  8. I'm looking to apply for the February board, and have only a few months before my package must be submitted. I don't have any flying experience. Is this going to severely hurt my chances for getting picked up? I'm prior service AF, with a good record and good academic numbers. I would like to get some flight time in, but with school and my family (married with two kids), flight time is too expensive right now. Should I try and find a way to eat the cost (i.e. loan/credit), or should I just apply as is, with no flight time. Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

I was picked up for an OTS Pilot slot with 0 hours. If your numbers are good and your package is strong, it can be done.

  9. I think if I brought a CAC reader home, I'd have to kick my own ass.

That is hilarious!! When was the last time you checked your email at home and said to yourself; “good thing I just checked my email or I would have had to wait until morning to find out that Capt Joe Blow just won CGO of the quarter!”

    Cheers
