  1. http://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/pho...F-0986R-288.jpg On the tail of this F-22 there are the numbers 03(small) and 046 (large). Does this mean the plane was built in calender 2003 or paid for in FY2003? Also, does the 046 indicate its serial/production number from the assembly line? Thanks!
  2. Dude, this is not even a question...PHX is the clear choice. TUS is a shithole; it's swanky like a dirty border town. Lots of girls when UofA is in session though. PHX has it all...nightlife, shopping, dinning, beautiful women year-round, tons of activities, non-stop flights from Sky Harbor and something TUS lacks...culture. PHX has literally blown up in the past 10 years, especially the last 5. Find me anyone who's been there recently who'd pick TUS over PHX...actually you won't find anyone, but if you do let me know and I'll personally pay for their therapy. DM is cool, I'll grant you that, but LF is better because you can live in PHX, SDL or Tempe. -ASUPilot ASU undergrad '97 ASU grad '99
  3. Bergman, crap...I forgot...my friend is a -135 driver and his unit does have an alert committment. He said he'll actually gross about $65K this year. I guess the alert pot of money is different. He gets paid to commute there, plus BAH when he works. I think he said on alert days he makes $250/day and on man-days he makes about $220/day. I'm guessing that without an alert committment the most days I'll work and still be sane would probably be 26 days/month. Boy, am I really glad I bought that G35 coupe in April now...it's only $60 to fill it up with gas!!!
  4. I've done some searches on this site and really haven't found the complete answer. I'm palace chasing to the Guard, thank God! Obviously the $4000/month I'm used to taking home as a senior 1lt on active duty (0-2 over 10) will be nearly impossible to achieve in the Guard. However, from what I can tell I get paid for man-days and aftp's. I think on drill weekends you make 2 pay periods per day. So, if you take my base pay of 3736.20 my rate "per period" is 124.54. I guess if I fly I'll get 1/30th of my 188 ACIP. Do I get BAH, and if so, is it Type I or II? Also, if I live say, 20 miles from the unit, am I paid for travel expenses? My unit said they have plenty of stuff for me to do to stay "busy" and get paid. I'm trying to figure out a budget for myself until I get the Title 10 AD TDY orders to the Rock where my pay will be back on the 15th and 30th of the month. I'm confused because a Reserve friend of mine out of March ARB said he's working between 24 and 28 days per month and is grossing 5400/month. I appreciate anyone who can help me make sense of this.
  5. Does anyone knoe the AFSC for a C-130H co-pilot? Thanks in advance.
  6. What a terrible tragedy. It is yet another solemn reminder of the dangers we in this business face. I don’t know Steve Elledge personally, but I know him, because he was like all of us pursuing the dream of military aviation. Steve got to enjoy the career he probably always dreamed about as a kid, and for that we should all be thankful. With the overall downward slide of our society on so many levels, in my opinion, I’m often left thinking to myself “why do we (in the military) do this for our country…” Well, the answer to that question is: sometimes it’s just the honor of serving with men like ENS Steve Elledge.
  7. If you are dead set on flying the Bone FAIPing in the T-38 would be an EXCELLENT choice!!! You would come through IQC as an AC and assuming you're not an idiot you'd make it. Study/understand your systems insanely well and be ready to A/R because it's required for an AC checkride. Being an AC in the Bone means you will get to fly A LOT more than us CPs! Plus, you'll likely upgrade to IP in a year or so. FAIPing is a good deal unless you wanted to be an astronaut or attend TPS. And lets face it, how many people really want to do that??? Don't be BS'd by dudes in UPT...a FAIP gig can be really good if you work it right. Any more Bone specific questions feel free to ask.
  8. If you have the resources to invest, go Breitling...the clear aviation choice. If not, drop a hundred bucks for a dual time G-Shock.
  9. "* AF decision maker hat on* what do we need to upgrade any of the Bomber Fleet for? Hell, let slap some old norden bombsights on them and use that money saved for another fighter." Well deweygcc, not to bruise anyone's ego, but the B-world does do a lot of work these days and have proven extremely valuable to the combatant commanders over in the sand box. Now I'm certainly no fighter hater as most of my friends are fighter types...however, when loaded for the typical mission these days my Bone is like 12 Vipers rolling up on the scene with loiter time, well, not an issue. It's really lame that we have to fly around with 1980s technology when I could go to Radio Shack and get better equipment.
  10. He's here at Vance in class 04-08 doing quite well in T-38's.
  11. When I was at ASU the flight department was transitioning to the East campus and was quite screwed up. I elected instead to stay at the Main campus and pursue a business education. Plus, I like to be around women...something you don't have at the East campus! [ 10 February 2004, 07:53: Message edited by: ASUPilot ]
  12. Is there a crossflow program in place where bomber dudes can crossflow into the fighter track and visa versa?
  13. I was selected to fly the Bone from Class 04-04. I'm headed to Dyess at the end of March with a 5 Apr 04 RTU date. The 28BS will send you a sponsor package with a lot of relevant information. Dyess seems like a very livable place. Form the Bone dudes I've spoken to they really enjoyed flying it and I'm pretty excited to get down here. One former Bone WSO gave me a -1 and a 3-3...pretty extensive as far as sytems go. It sure isn't a simple T-38 anymore! From my bro's who are there right now, there's plenty of time to study the new information so don't waste anytime trying to "get ahead" prior to reporting to the 28BS. I hope this helps!
