The Jill Metzger thread

For what it is worth....info from a very reliable source...nothing that is too cosmic:

"Ahhh....the Metzger case, still a lot of smoke and no real fire. She just got 18 months of medical retirement which has cause quite a stir in the "watch dog community." I suspect they will reevaluate her at the end of the 18 months and determine if she is fit to return to duty. I personally think they'll just medically retire her for good at the end of the 18 months. She has fought any kind of discharge and wants to cling to her military career, at least what's left of it, but I don't think there's much left to cling too. We're looking at some final steps to take to wrap up the investigation, but nothing real promising and I suspect when all is said and done, this case will go into the same drawer where the FBI stores Jimmy Hoff's case. We'll see....unfortunately there's still not much to tell, although I think will have the case wrapped up by early fall."

So for what it is worth...there it is. The FOIA stuff that was discussed is not a player until it is no longer an active investigation. So for the intimate details of what actually happened...you are all going to have wait until the 18 month med thing is over, then the investigation and re-evaluation to finish up...then the AF decision, then...maybe...it will be releasable. Maybe when my 2.5 year old goes into journalism in 16 tears, she can look it up. :)

The Dude: "I'll tell you what I'm blathering about... I've got information man! New sh!t has come to light! And sh!t... man, she kidnapped herself. Well sure, man. Look at it... a young trophy wife, in the parlance of our times, you know, and she, uh, uh, owes money all over town, including to known pornographers, and that's cool... that's, that's cool, I'm, I'm saying, she needs money, man. And of course they're going to say that they didn't get it, because... she wants more, man! She's got to feed the monkey, I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?"

She kidnapped herself DUDE!

I wonder what dad's reaction will be when this comes out as something more than the "abduction" story his psyco daughter has been giving him. If the AF could drive Manhart out for the Playboy thing, can't they find someway to jettison this load too?

Nope, she's an officer, and a runner. The Air Force LOVES its runners. They'll medically retire her before anything else.

PTSD eh? Ain't that a load of FVCKING BULLSHIT! Oh and I wish I could just get away from the Air Force whenever I wanted...

"...she is still running competitively and was working on her master's degree"

Are they fooking kidding me?!?!? :bash: I sure as hell wish the Air Force had given me an "18 month temporary medical retirement" so I could go knock out my master's degree (with AF paid tuition assistance, no doubt). It's nice to see her PTSD is SOOOOO terrible that she can't do her highly challenging, mentally draining, and physically demanding regular AF job in the MPF, but still manages to run marathons and study for an advanced degree.

I don't know what's worse...Metzger for pulling this crap, or the Air Force for letting her get away with it. YGBSM.

I wonder what her OPR is going to look like

- Showcased AF physical fitness capabilities: two time marathon champion, E & E subject matter expert

- Demonstrated ability to generate much-needed publicity for AF diversity; 75% increase in pyscho-chick recruitment

- Model for junior officers and enlisted; self-improvement efforts capped off by ability to think on her bare feet

- A 'shack' for further challenges; a must for squadron command and SDE in-residence; Air Staff next!

The Military Corruption website constantly mentions Maj Metzger's "minders" as if she has people who are constantly surrounding her and running with her. Who the hell do they mean? Is she also getting a Security Police detail or something to "protect" her from questions?

I've asked before, but isn't there ANYBODY from Moody on this mssg board who can shed some light on WTF's going on with her? Any stories/ gossip from the base on the situation?

Keep tuned to militarycorruption.com It's the only news agency that has bothered to keep up with this story. E-mail the editor with info.

What a travesty. PTSD my ass. When the truth finally comes out 5 years from now, the Wing Commander (COL Kenneth Todorov) at her base needs to be prosecuted along with Metzger for Fraud, Waste, and Abuse. What did he know about her bogus claims of abduction, and when? Clearly they know she was lying-- even when she slunk back into Moody there was no welcome party, no parade for the hero, no statement about her bravery, nothing whatsoever except silence. And if he knew she was FOS, why was her TDRL approved? She'll be collecting cold, hard cash from the taxpayers for the next 18 months (and maybe longer) as she relaxes with her husband in Florida, a reward for her ridiculous lies.

Why the media hasn't been all over this is puzzling. E-mail Geraldo! atlarge@foxnews.com

I don't care who covers this story, but it sounds like it's right up Geraldo's alley. Affairs, abortion, lying, Generals involved, PTSD-- can't get any better.

Temporary retirement official for Metzger

By Patrick Winn - Staff writer

Posted : Thursday Jul 19, 2007 12:13:36 EDT

Maj. Jill Metzger’s much-debated placement on “Temporary Disability Retirement” status is official, according to the Air Force.

Metzger, whose claims of being kidnapped and beaten in Kyrgyzstan are still under investigation, will receive pay and benefits during her temporary retirement. Though Metzger has not yet spoken to the media, her family said she was professionally diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder by physicians at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.

Temporary retirement appointments are somewhat uncommon. Metzger is among roughly 230 granted this year so far. There were 516 last year, 459 in 2005 and 325 in 2004, according to the Air Force.

According to Air Force policy, she’ll be re-examined within 18 months. If she’s found to be fit, she can return to duty. If not, her temporary retirement could continue or she could be recommended for permanent retirement or discharge with severance pay. Airmen cannot stay on temporary retirement for more than five years.

Metzger is now with her husband, Capt. Joshua Mayo, an officer stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. The Air Force Office of Special Investigation — which employs Mayo — continues to investigate Metzger’s account of abduction and torture. The major has said she was kidnapped from a mall in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, near Manas Air Base, where she was stationed.

Metzger resurfaced three days after her September disappearance with her blonde hair cut short and dyed brown. Internet speculation on blogs and message boards has suggested she faked the abduction, though Metzger said she escaped by striking one of her captors and fleeing into the desert.

So let me get this straight - she'll collect full pay and allowances while on this leave, because of supposed PTSD?

What an insult to people who really have it. I mean how many OEF and OIF vets have it, are refused treatment, and are forced back into more deployments and are accused of malingering?

Maybe she does have PTSD. I can't imagine an underground Kyrgyz abortion is a run of the mill procedure like going to Planned Parenthood in the states. I'm just sayin's all. Ya never know!

Anyone else notice that on the Air Force Times website what was the lead article (Metzger) earlier today is not pushed off to the "more headlines" page about half way down. AND the forum at the bottom of the page that people could voice their opinion about the matter is now gone. I thought just baseops had the magic broom. Someone must have gotten really tired about hearing the bitching.

She won't get full pay and allowances...

Temporary Disability Retirement - Temporary disability retirement occurs if the member is found unfit and entitled to permanent disability retirement except that the disability is not stable for rating purposes. "Stable for rating purposes" refers to whether the condition will change within the next five years so as to warrant a different disability rating. However, stability does not include latent impairment--what might happen in the future. When placed on the Temporary Disability Retirement List (TDRL), the law requires the member to undergo a periodic medical reexamination within 18 months at a minimum followed by Physical Evaluation Board (PEB) evaluation. The member may be retained on the TDRL or a final determination may be made. While the law provides for a maximum tenure of 5 years on the TDRL, there is no entitlement to be retained for the entire period.

Retirement pay computation. For permanent retirement or placement on the TDRL, compensation is based on the higher of two computations: Disability rating times retired pay base; or 2.5 x years of service x retired pay base. Soldiers on the TDRL receive no less than 50% of their retired pay base.

The computation of retired pay base depends upon when the member entered the service, and for Reserve members, the law under which they were retired. For those members who entered prior to 8 September 1980, retired pay base is the highest basic pay received. For those who entered after 7 September 1980, it is the average of the high 36 months of basic pay.

More info here.

Cheers! M2

Why do I get the feeling her family life is going to implode, if it hasn't already?

"Except for that time when she got knocked up by some other dude overseas, and then went to an underground abortion clinic in Kyrgyzstan to cover it up, and then lied about getting abducted for three days when the abortion went bad, she's been a very faithful wife."

Good Lord in Heaven, I wish the Air Force would get to the bottom of this and do the right thing-- ie: fry this chick!! It's killing me...

In my 17 years (including the zoo of course), I have seen more instances than I can count of general favoritism, female double standard, inappropriate relationships (adultery & frat), marriages of "convenience", and special treatment of "all-stars".

This case, involving all of the above, absolutely takes the cake and is the most preposterous and infuriating of them all. If this doesn't get dealt with properly I will be tempted to call it the last straw for me and just sign off... Seriously. Un-friggin-believable. What's it been now-- 10 months?!?!

We all share your frustration.

What I love is how some of the media reports bill her as a "rising star". WTF, she's personnel officer. Last time I checked, we were force shaping that career field.

HD

If I may so humbly offer the following:

- I have been monitoring this event since first reports went out at the AB. Interesting enough that the base didn't notify the local authorities or the Embassy for a period of time until the group verified she was missing. She had a unit cell phone with her

- Security cameras show Jill Metzger leaving the department store alone and with a large handbag

- Local police report that an open air market vendor identified Jill Metzger from a photo as the person who had bought a container of brown hair dye

- Overseas hair dyes (even the know brands) do not include the plastic mittens like the American products are required to do

- The police report states the farm woman reported that Jill Metzger had dye stained hands and blood on her feet

Now these are just a few things that make you go hmmmmm.

Here's a couple more:

- Received an email from a Security Forces Senior Airman stating he was at the main entry point where vehicle and personnel are screen prior to entry to the air base. The airman stated that Jill Metzger was in good spirits, no cuts, no bruises, and not emotionally upset. After she left, LT. Gen. Gary North approach him and his partner, shook their hands, handed them his 3-star coin, and said "what you saw here needs to be kept quiet!" This airmen said not only was he surprised but felt insulted. This was verified by another source and a FOIA request to Gen North's office puts him at Manas AB on the day of Jill Metzger's return to US Control.

- A C-17 ready for departure to Bagram AB, with refuelings, dip clearances, etc. was delayed, ordered to off-load war materials for Bagram AB, to make accomodation for Jill Metzger and party. She was briefly examined at the regional Bagram hospital (where (rumor) she refused a blood withdrawal and gyn exam) and was then loaded for a flight to Ramstein.

Some thoughts:

- As an associate editor/investigator for a Military internet news source, I have submitted over 12 FOIA requests to DOS, DOJ, HQ AFOSI, CENTAF, HQ USAF, and Moody AFB. Guess what responses are slow or have been lost

- We have received an email stating that Jill Metzger was the CFC officer and jogging companion for the new ACC commander when he was the DM wing commander

- We have received numerous emails stating the marriage of Jill Metzger and Josh Mayo, who is a Captain, serving as a OSI agent at Tyndall AFB, FL was a matter of convenience for both individuals. Should be noted that Josh's father, Kelly is also an AFOSI agent in Colorado Springs. This was revealed in a Fox News report. Guess who is helping the DOJ in the investigation? AFOSI

- During a CBS Morning interview with Captain Josh Mayo and his father, Kelly, Josh is asked if he’ll go to overseas to search for his wife and what strikes everyone odd is his response; ……..”I will stay with my family here in Colorado Springs and my efforts are better served honoring Jill’s memory!”

- We have several emails (some spill milk and very sour) about wives not to happy about Jill's conduct at the Ramstein O'Club

- We do know that Jill is very competitive in men sports. She'll go head-to-head with the largest of them all. Soccer, football, rugby, softball, etc. This may have been the sore spot with some wives?

Final thoughts:

- Jill Metzger has the best help to fight the AF for what she wants, her dad, a retired LtCol who was a 7316, a personnel officer who may have served at AFPC. When interviewed he made the comment "We thought it best for Jill......."

"We" could be the power brokers that she knows or could be daddy. There are several of us retired officers who think there is a struggle to save a career, maybe a future CSAF career, that's why this is being handle quietly!

- Oh, yes she did have a "minder." This "minder" was a female Captain from the Pentagon who was to run interference for Major Metzger. Now we have an email report of this but we never could get anyone to get a us a photo or a name for a FOIA request.

Don't forget the AF Marathon is 15 September 2007 at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Come on out and watch Jill Metzger run. Don't for get your sign. A suggestion: PTSD and how many miles can you run? Escapee or Fraud? (AF Times used this one); Jill Metzger, What the Truth?

Dude very good work. I am glad someone with the background necessary is pushing the FOIA requests, etc. We can's let this die.

We would have forgotten all about this if the AF would have dealt with it immediately, apologized the the Krygzystan Govt (I talked with a few locals there who were hurt that this happened. They were upset that she made, in their view, the Americans hate them and consider them terrorists) etc.

Now we are dealing with something that looks extremely shady and aweful, and in rainman's words, Gross.

Though not as serious, this has the Pat Tillman type qualities.

I'm being a bit sarcastic. But not completely. It's just another straw on the camel's back-- and the funny thing is she has absolutely nothing to do with me personally! Just steams me to no end...

Let me clarifly my interests in this case.

- I see gender bias

- For 10 months FBI, AFOSI, and DOS agents have been investigating (only people not interviewed were the abductors)

- Special handling; General Order given to Moody personnel to avoid contact with subject; assigned handler

- Occupied space in administrative job at 0-4 pay for 10 months

- Use time period to prepare for future marathon competitions

- Past conduct and fraternization

- Failure of leadership to correct and mentor

- GO side comment to company grade officer "this is a nightmare and I hope we survive this mess!

- Given TDRL and 100% disability within 60 days whereas combat veterans are fighting MEBs and VA for fair disability ratings for months/years

I see honorable servicemen and women being :bohica: by this incident and I see AF leadership needing a :bash:

Have you done a financial estimate as to how much it all has cost the taxpayers???

(not to include the on-duty time spent on this thread by our active duty and Reserve/Guard participants, of course! )

As a female, veteran (w/ a true case of PTSD (and no handler, no VA counselor and no retirement on active duty) I might add), and marathon runner, I have been watching this with great interest. It's amazing the lengths the AF is going to cover this up.

There is something that has been going around in my mind, and I wonder what your thoughts are on this (you'll probably just tell me I'm out of my element and to shut the "f" up), but here goes. There may be a legitimate explanation for her actions, that would cause her to do what she did, lie about it, and still have PTSD. She could have been raped on base, and then threatened with her career or life. Just a thought-- I'm not saying it happened, but that would explain the running away and her trying to change her appearance (common thing a woman does when raped), declining the medical exam (shame), ect... The AF may be covering it up to 1. protect her, 2. protect the person who did it to her, and 3. protect it's reputation, the track record on rape isn't the best since the Academy rape scandal. Especially if she reported the rape, and there was an insufficient response. It may be the reasoning for the new rape push at the medical group I have noticed the past year or so (I don't know if they do this during guys exams, but they straight out ask us women if we have been or are being threatened or raped).

Otherwise the favoritism and the odd behaviors are very disturbing-- I know for you guys it makes it less appealing to be deployed with a woman. All I can say is if my hypothesis is correct, the AF may be trying to save itself from litigation.

You asked for it...

"You are out of your element and shut the "f" up!"

Seriously, your hypothesis is worse than the bullshit.gif that is spewing from AF/PA! There is no compelling evidence that any of what you espoused happened, but there is a helluva lot of it showing that she lied about her actions, and even more anecdotal evidence that she was seeking an abortion. I don't think if she had been raped that she would have taken this route, if she was and did, then she is an even bigger idiot than I originally thought!

Sorry, but that has to be one of the worse alternative scenarios that anyone could have come up with. I hope you aren't planning to propose that the psycho female astronaut's actions were the result of some pre-menopausal condition as well…
