The Jill Metzger thread

Which only further proves that the Air Force wanted to cover the entire saga up! If she was as much of a "hero" as they claimed she had been, there would have been book deals and the like. I've heard some interesting info from sources which I cannot share (sorry 'bout that), but I have to say that my assessment is still that it was all a big deception campaign...

Cheers! M2

I've heard (unsubstantiated) rumors about a promotion and return to AD.

Is she on the global? I'd look it up myself, but my guard unit's email isn't hooked up to it. So much for fly, fight (win) in cyberspace.

I digress.

There needs to be either medals or jail time handed out if the AF is going to retain any credibility whatsoev...oh, wait. Too late.

What a cluster ######.

It does not appear that she ran in the September 19, 2009 marathon.

A search of Yahoo's 2009 news archives showed no articles on her.

Looks like she's disappeared...

I have no doubt the media outlets would jump on the story if it became mainstream, but no one has the sack to pursue it...it's too toxic for both the left & right leaning media. Anyone who chose to pursue the details would either be perceived as anti-military or deemed to be harassing the poor little confused female Major (& athletic hero). The only people who seemed to be genuinely outraged are those currently serving or veterans...for everyone else, this story is dead news that happened 5 years ago. Yes, this is likely one of the most egregious injustices from within the ranks in the past decade, but like I said...she got away with it. Hell, she was rewarded for it.

If her story were true, she'd have been on Oprah, written a book, & would be giving speeches on the national circuit. Frankly, the whole thing is an embarrassment for all of us who have served honorably. Nice try with the thread bump, but I just don't think this thing will ever surface.

This site is claiming that the AF confirmed Metzger as a suspect in an on-going FBI investigation.

Military Corruption

Clarified link as Military Corruption, not FBI

Your link says FBI, but it actually takes you to Military Corruption. That's one site that hasn't given up on her. However, they demonstrate shoddy journalism, a website design that hurts the eyes, and don't substantiate their sources. They make the AF Times look like Pulitzer Prize winning media outlet. MC is essentially the National Enquirer for the military.

Sorry--didn't mean to insinuate that the article was from the FBI. I just renamed the link so that it would be shorter. And no argument about your points on Military Corruption--a sh!tty web design, and an even worse reputation. The only reason I even posted the link is because they claim to have received offical AF correspondance that lists Metzger as a suspect in an on-going FBI investigation.

Those guys at MC really seem to hate Gen North...

No shit.. there is never a cop around when you need one and the day you get mugged is the day you left your gun sitting on the kitchen table.. (not M2 of course)

So true!

Beers for life to the person that releases the info to WikiLeaks.

So, analyzing the RUMINT here, it sounds like she may have gotten knocked up by an Enlisted Marine, then pursued off-base medical measures to eliminate the problem, which may or may not have gone as planned, resulting in her remaining in medical care for a few days followed immediately by her "escape", i.e. return to base. After that, it very much sounds like the .mil expidited her extraction in order to avoid a national debate on abortion in the military. Is that the gist? In the meantime, regardless of what actually happened, relations with Kyrgyzstan were set back 10 years.

I had to sit down and pour a tall glass of Maker's Mark on ice after I had a friend at Andrews confirm this one.

Apparently Major Jill Metzger is back on active duty and is performing duties in support of the wing there. Now I'm not going to cut and paste the notorious site that seems to have a complex over this gal but I checked and this seems to all fit.

Apparently she's off TDRL, could be coming up on the list for 0-5 promotion, and is in charge of "Community Affairs(?)" Now I wonder what that's all about?

Well from all the rumors of her having a baby, reason for missing the 09/10 marathons, now to being completely healed and back on active duty.

I'm just going to sit here and polish this whiskey off...... :drinking:

According to the GAL, it's not.

Yeah, but I remember when she first got back to Moody after the incident, and she was all over the news. I tried to look her up on the GAL to confirm which office she was in, but she had been removed then, too.

Can anyone on BO at Andrews confirm?

It's true.

Metzger returns to active duty

Highlights

Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger has returned to active duty, more than four years after she mysteriously went missing from a base in Kyrgyzstan.

The former Air Force marathon champion returned to duty on Oct. 12, as the chief of community programs for the Air Force District of Washington at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., according to Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Col. Ann Stefanek.

The FBI closed its investigation into the incident a year ago, said Lindsay Godwin, a public affairs specialist with the FBI Washington Field Office, but the agency will not disclose the results of the investigation.

Air Force officials, citing privacy laws, would not say what Metzger’s status was during her hiatus from active duty, only that she was considered “retired.”

Jill Metzger has declined all interview requests, Stefanek said.

In her new job, Jill Metzger will work with some high-visibility programs in the nation’s capital, according to Stefanek, such as the annual Air Force Cycling Classic, the Wounded Warrior Program and the military funeral honors program at Arlington National Cemetery, Stefanek said.

Interesting.

"....the Wounded Warrior Program and the military funeral honors program at Arlington National Cemetery, Stefanek said."

Isn't this a little ironic given the circumstances? Is she the right person to be working these, after spitting in the face of so many wounded soldiers with her schenanagins?

Devils advocacy, just for fun....Ok, I can see some GO trying to accomplish some kind of coverup within the AF. But, the FBI investigated--and obviously decided nothing criminal took place--I say obviously, because the AF isn't prosecuting her. So, if we assume that Jill's story held up under Kyrgyz, FBI, OSBI, and AF SF investigations, why can't we also assume the major portions are true? Wouldn't it take some huge Jason Bourne- type conspiracy to make all this go away for her (like it seems to have)?? Wouldn't a simpler explanation also make sense? She leaves the mall, has the procedure, something goes wrong, makes her way back to frendlies, initially lies about it, tells investigators she was scared and confused and misspoke, then tells a better story which checks out, claims PTSD , gets the dx, spends a couple years "healing" and now wants to go on with her life?

Any takers on that theory?

Yeah, I'll buy that. The only problem is, if you or I went UA for three days on a deployment and lied about why, there'd be no opportunity for healing and getting on with life, it'd be straight to a well-deserved court martial.
