Harpoon and Hellfire haven’t cut it for the peer fight since 2003 and yet here we are, still buying....

Saw an Eglin test of the Apache with a Spike recently. 20 mile range is interesting.

Hypersonics from the Air Force perspective seem to be the way to go to cover the tryanny of distance being pushed by A2AD and mobile threats.

Yeah, we’ve suddenly woken up to what those of us in the survivability and tactics sections have been screaming about for over a decade. There is no actual plan to buy Spike, it was just to prove possible the theory that a 64 doesn’t need to live/launch with line of sight half way in the WEZ of every modern RF threat. They were using it because we (the worlds only super power) lack stocks of a missile better than cold warrior veterans like AGM-65 or AGM-114 since we have comfortably demonstrated that’s all you need to kill a D-bag with a shovel planting an IED or riding a moto in the desert.

When you look at the war stock of what we will go fight a peer with, and compare the Pk of the frontline R model Hellfire against a T90 or 72 with modern ERA and God forbid working Arena APS on it the numbers start getting scary. It’s probably a good thing we are pulling the Volcano mine systems out of the warehouse and revalidating our TTPs for it (another relic of the Cold War).

Yeah, hypersonic did what will be used to defeat A2AD.  As long as we know where the epicenters are.

cyber and shutting g down everything is the absolute KEY.   Yet we knowingly sit here and let China infect the world with the Kung flu and did nothing about it.    YET.   CHINA can’t do anything to us except defend.

Glad someone else noticed this. Went an entire term without creating another forever war and suddenly the party of peaceful resolution wants to start striking everyone with reckless abandon...

True
I should not have put the accusation on them, neoliberal / neoconservative globalists are the culprits
It’s shaping up to be western corporate power structures vs Eurasian autocracies fighting proxy wars, high tension stand offs and cold technology / information wars.

Imagine you're the INDOPAC commander and the day the invasion of Taiwan starts you get a text stating all your bank accounts have been drained, your IRAs drained, etc. and if you lead the response it's all gone permanently.  Sure enough, you check and all your accounts have been erased.  Imagine how that would mess with your head...

Hopefully they'd send a link to Ceelo Green's "Forget you" right back.

...but that would suck (sts).

It would peg my "urge to kill" meter, thereby diminishing the enemy's chances of victory.

Unfortunately that is part of the force that is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. What's next, lets fly a E-3 or E-8 mission with nothing but LGBT members with the Wing CC's jet, rainbow tail. It seems we are going back to 1947 and segregating AF members by race, sex and how you get your freak on.

Yeah but I’ve got hope buried under a lot a cynicism that you, me and most others are not the only ones realizing that blathering away about immutable or irrelevant differences is not in the long run worth it

Still holding out hope for a non straight white male heterosexual GO to say to whatever SJW / PC politician or political appointee trying to make them a poster boy for X cause “ f you Im not your toy”

As to the original subject of this thread, either this is a moment of uncharacteristic honest assessment from the PLAAF on its performance that slipped out or disinformation

That revelation in the form of the article may be new...but the exercise being described was in 2015. The PLAAF had made a lot of changes since 2015...

Legit point

The mention of their interest in the Gripen E was interesting, surprised we haven’t heard (yet) a PLAAF fighter with an OMS for rapid integration/modification of systems

I bagged on the techno novel 2034 but the authors did have one threat right, Chinese cyber capes via embedded malware (hardware & software) delivered or activated by a nondirect broadcast

As they make a shit ton of chips, boards, drives, etc... I’m sure they (CCP) haven’t thought of this...

I don’t even think they’d need to go that far.

With everybody’s exposure to cell phone social messaging failures, it would be to easy to just start selectively targeting key personnel and then posting decently produced fake sexts to their spouses or racist/sexist/what’re likes and retweets via their Instagram etc. a country with a tech apparatus like China could just purposefully your collections capes and sharing the PII of critical players so they have the constant other things to worry about. State sponsored computer terrorism.

You wouldn’t even need to necessarily tie it to a particular exercise or objective, just start going after all the military personnel we invest money in and cull the herd of talent through frustrations caused by it.

Good thing China didn't do anything like steal OPM data to augment/corroborate anything it can find on social media to do what you mentioned.

At this point I feel like it would be a better investment for the military to start creating us all new identities vs trying to protect the old ones.

I’d like to be Randy Randerson.

My facial hair turns a color of red that doesn’t exist in Nature except as a way to warn other species.

It is epic and it is terrifying. Look like a Swedish porn star from 1978.
