Guard/Reserve timeline to UPT

Guard, off-the-street:

Selected - Jan ‘21

MEPS Approved - March ‘21

FC1 Approved - April ‘21

Officially Gained - Sept ‘21

NGB Submission - Jan ‘22

Hoping I can get OTS in late spring/early summer, and hit UPT ASAP after that…fingers crossed as the process has slowed a good bit after moving much faster out of the gate than anticipated.

Just finished up at WP and required an OCT waiver (thinner than normal, behind the retina). The docs said this is a rubber stamp waiver and should be approved no problem...will see if that holds true. I'm curious if anyone has completed their FC1 in recent weeks/months and has any idea of current timeline for receiving FC1 stamps/notification of approval.

I went to WP early February of last year and had to get a waiver for exotropia. FC1 was stamped approved w/ waiver at the end of March.

Off the street hire, guard, heavies. Here's my timeline so far:

Application Submitted:     Aug 2020

Interview (in-person):      Oct 2020

Selection:                          Nov 2020

MEPS:                                May 2021

MEPS Approval:                Jul 2021

Enlistment:                        Jul 2021

NGB Submission              Aug 2021

FC1 Medical:                     Oct 2021

FC1 Approval:                   Nov 2021

NGB Approval:                 Jan 2022

OTS:                                  ?????

UPT:                                  ?????

It's been a long one for sure. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes from packet approval to getting OTS dates? Seems like some people get them pretty fast. Scheduled within a week or two after NGB approval for class dates that are 3-4 months out. I've got nothing so far.

6-9 months.....but for real, it's hard to tell. You can tell your unit you'll accept short notice dates, but it's still all over the place.

Curious if anyone knows the answer to this: does the AFRC UPT board require a PPL for approval? I’ve been sponsored by a unit, FC1 complete, etc the whole nine yards- but I don’t have a PPL yet. My recruiter is making me nervous that I won’t get picked up during the Jan board.

any insight would be appreciated… oh and since I’m here

AFOQT: Feb 2021

TBAS: Feb 2021

FC1: Sep 2021

Interviewed and accepted: Oct 2021

AFRC UPT Board: hopefully Jan??

UPT: ???

To answer my own question- PPL not required. Got the AFRC thumbs up this week.

AFOQT: Feb 2021

TBAS: Feb 2021

FC1: Sep 2021

Interviewed and accepted: Oct 2021

AFRC UPT Board approval: Feb 2022

UPT: “early June” - lady on the phone

Does anyone have an idea of how the NGB processes work? Do our packets meet a board? When are the number of training slots assigned? Are they distributed alphabetically by state? Does anyone have a contact? I'm totally in the dark on everything.

I'm gonna piggy back and bump this question, as it's a great one and I'd love that insight, too, if anybody is able to shed some light on it. Thank you so much in advance!

How did you go about getting your FC1 before enlisting? Or were you already in the AF?
My recruiter told me I need to be enlisted in the unit before they can go about procuring dates for FC1 or OTS

I am off the street, non-prior.

The common misconception is that you need to go to MEPS and be enlisted prior to the FC1. That is not true.

I was just as confused when my recruiter told me that I would be skipping MEPS all together and enlisting AFTER I received an FC1 stamp.

Turned out to be about the smoothest process I could ask for.

Is there any reg or paper I can point to to give my recruiter? I'd certainly like to look into this...

Based on the last few packages I’m aware of (including mine), I’d estimate between 60-90 days. Mine took right around 2 months.

Prior enlisted crew chief hired from within in fighter unit:

AFOQT/TBAS: September 2020

Interview: 12 July 2021 (Selected as alternate)

Notified of Primary: 15 Dec 2021

Notified of FC1 date: 24 Jan 2022

FC1: 7 Feb 2022

FC1 stamped approved: 18 Feb 2022

NGB Submission: 22 March 2022

I have had a pretty straight forward and seamless process thus far, so hopefully NGB approval does not take an eternity.

My packet was submitted to NGB on 01 JUL 21 and was approved 19 OCT 21, so 3.5mos for me.
