-Did the Engineers create that black mass or is it a naturally occurring substance? If I remember the really shitty movie (Aliens 4) right, they try to create one of the aliens by using Sigourney Weaver's DNA. They also managed to clone her by using part alien DNA? If the Engineers made that substance, then it would make sense why we would share common genomes. If not, then what the hell?

I think you're still thinking this is a direct link to the Alien movies. It's not.

-What was the point of the scene in the beginning? Where was that Engineer and why did he drink/eat that stuff?

Seeding Earth (or whatever planet) with genetic material (STS)

-Why did that medical pod have a preset procedure to remove parasitic entities from the human body?

Because then that incredibly awesome scene wouldn't have occurred.

I thought it was a very well done movie, but didn't quite measure up to the best of Ridley Scott. Nonetheless, I hope they make another one.

Then why Weyland? The human-like android? The Space Jockey wearing a similar suit in Alien as the one did in Prometheus? The scene of the alien at the end? It seems like despite all the avoidance to being an episode in the series, there are too many parallels drawn between Prometheus and Alien for it to not be a direct link.

There were a lot of lapses in logic that I did not like, but it was a decent movie. Not worth seeing in 3D though, since there are only about four seconds of 3D footage.

Scott referred to it having the same 'DNA' and being in the same 'universe' as the first 4 Alien movies, but not a direct prequel.

I don't know if that was meant jokingly, but I don't get it... I consider myself quite liberal and loved this movie... dark/black comedies are my absolute favorite.

Wow, a liberal with a sense of humor? About time we got one on this board.

Speaking of which, if you like that type of film, definitely check-out "The Guard" (some Redbox locations have it). It was directed by the brother of the guy who directed "In Bruges"... both were shown and well-received at Sundance and Cannes...

I watched The Guard on an overseas flight (seems to be where I catch up on flicks) and it was an interesting movie. I loved In Bruges (own it on DVD) and while The Guard didn't quite impress me as much, it was still more interesting than 69% of the current choices out there!

Cheers! M2

The Engineers created the black mass, substance, or whatever you want to call it. The Engineers were going to use the black substance to destroy the human race, which the Engineers created.

If I remember the really shitty movie (Aliens 4) right, they try to create one of the aliens by using Sigourney Weaver's DNA. They also managed to clone her by using part alien DNA? -What was the point of the scene in the beginning? Where was that Engineer and why did he drink/eat that stuff?

The Engineers have the same DNA because they created the human race. What Brewskis said was the way I interpreted the opening scene. The Engineer in the beginning scene sacrificed himself to create the human race.

-Who decided to bring all of the flamethrowers aboard Prometheus?

Prometheus gave the human race fire, so it makes sense to have a shit ton of flamethrowers are on a ship named Prometheus.

-Why did that medical pod have a preset procedure to remove parasitic entities from the human body?

I could be wrong, but I remember the procedure was something like removing the appendix or spleen. Again, I could be wrong.

-They found six different cave paintings with the same constellation and think "we should keep looking," then find a seventh and say "we should find this planet?"

Maybe it took six or so paintings to convince Weyland to build a ship. Also, notice the cave paintings stopped. I think the Engineers stopped coming to earth once they realized they created a bunch of assholes.

-Who thought the cave paintings were an invitation? That is a huge leaping assumption on the part of that redhead chick, and the dying old guy decided to spend a ridiculous amount of dollars on sending a crew of people 3.27 x 1014 km to find the planet?

The dying old guy wanted to meet his maker, aka the Engineers. I think he was under the impression the Engineer could "fix" him. I thought it was funny that the Engineer kills Weyland with his own creation (the android).

Obviously, still a lot of questions. But the question I'd like to be answered, is what were the Engineers running from in those holograms? The Engineers created something that killed all of them except the Engineer in the sleeping chamber. What was it?

The movie was good, but not great. However, it was visually stunning in the IMAX.

I was actually invited on just to meet a quota... Action of an affirming nature.

I agree that In Bruges was better (I own it as well, and it is, without question, the best movie Colin Farrell has or ever will be in), but I don't think by a massive margin. The dialogue was just as witty and quick, the editing was good, but the story line was way too underdeveloped... Think the movie easily could have gone an extra half-hour.

This was a pretty terrible year (year-and-a-half) for films though, so this was probably the best one I've seen since Drive.

No, Baseops.net wasn't online until 1999.

That's My Boy. Go see it. It's like the 1990s Adam Sandler came back.

It still LOOKS terrible, but I must admit I'm intrigued.

Anyone ever seen him in Reign Over Me? Not a comedy, but probably the best acting performance of his career.

My theory: The black shit that they created in order to wipe out the humans ended up backfiring on them. The black stuff was referred to as a biological WMD. It altered DNA in a way that seems to eventually result in the creation of xenomorphs--the ultimate killer. The goo worked a little too well a little too soon and xenomorphs attacked the Engineers. Who knows where the hell they went in the 2000 yr period of time from killing the engineers to when Prometheus showed up.

I only noticed flamethrowers in three different scenes. It is entirely possible it was the same flamethrower.

There's some inconsistency here. When Charlize is talking to the captain about getting laid she says something to the effect of "I wouldn't come a half a billion miles away from the men on Earth if I wanted to get laid"... umm that's 500,000,000 miles. Saturn is further away from Earth than that.

Has potential and applies on this forum...

Definitely worth a look, but it is hardly ground-breaking as a film. It is a take-off on a movie that starred Cliff Robertson called, "The Pilot".

Reign Over Me is fantastic. I've always loved Adam Sandler's comedy but I didn't think he could play a serious role like he did in it. One of his best acting performances.

I think it's a stretch to say that just because he drinks it's a takeoff of The Pilot (granted I'm only going off the trailers).

Holy fucking terrible shitballs cock ass fuck. I don't have enough swear words to describe what a terrible fucking abortion of a miserable fuckstain this movie will be,

http://youtu.be/PifvRiHVSCY

It was shit when Sly did it a decade ago, and now it looks even worse.

I know Hollywood has been on an unoriginal kick the last couple years, but damn.... At least remake a movie (or carry on with the franchise) that was good to begin with!

Comic book background aside, the premise seems very familiar. Maybe because I saw The Raid: Redemption a couple months ago. I swear, Hollywood executives could be replaced by one of those damn "What's your stripper/porn star name?" mad lib generator programs.

Agreed

Hollywood's lack of originality in rebooting/remaking movies is incredible (or maybe not). I will say, however, that the new Amazing Spiderman was better than the 2002 version with Tobey Maguire.

That does look terrible, but it led me to find they're making a "Taken 2." Won't be as good as the 1st, but it's fun watching Liam Neeson kick ass.
