    two points:

    1. they are not blunting anything

    2. they are not stopping russian advances.

russia is clearly advancing, capturing territory, and clearly winning this war. and they will win regardless of how much money/ammo we give them.

The lines have shifted several times.  You seem to only recognize one direction.

The initial thrust of the invasion stopped, followed by counter-attacks by both sides...doesn't sound like the one-sided war you seem to be describing.

I’ll tell you that if the AF wants more talented leaders they need to stop focusing on exec, aide, PME etc and actually pay attention beyond the spreadsheet of who has leadership talent and who doesn’t.

I'm sure they'll get right on that, after fixing acquisitions.

  3. Zeppelin, Queen, Guns n Roses are all great for rock.

Mix it up with some Jazz here and there--Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, and Dave Koz.

Beethoven or Linkin Park, it depends on the day.

  4. Ukraine, Gaza, Taiwan, and our own border are all valid and *separate* issues.  Our political class continues to display its ineptitude by demanding package deals they know their opponents won't accept.  They are not serious about trying to solve problems, but only about maintaining their own power.

We need votes about single topics.

  5. I listened to a good chunk of the interview.  I don't think those low-intelligence voters are likely to stay tuned after Putin's half-hour "history of eastern Europe" monologue right at the start.  He kept playing up NATO's/US's duplicity and broken promises, then acted like he didn't care.  (BS flag flying high there.)

I'm thinking this might have actually been targeted at the Russian audience more than the western one.

I believe alternate viewpoints should be allowed on most issues, but those that threaten our national security and global dominance can't be allowed to spread unchecked.

Freedom cannot be enjoyed unless there is a government that provides it to you.

So, freedom of speech/thought is good...unless the government doesn't like it.  Also, government is the source of freedom.  Those are your arguments?

I side with the idea that we, the people, have certain unalienable rights.  Something about governments being instituted to secure our rights rather than the king "providing" them to his subjects.  Always remember that a government powerful enough to give you everything you want is powerful enough to take away everything you need.

As Stalin might say, "dark humor is like food--not everyone gets it."

Why is Tucker Carlson being allowed to publish his interview with Vladimir Putin tomorrow evening at 6pm EST?

If we're at war with Russia, and Tucker interviews the leader of the country we are at war with, and then publishes that interview on American media outlets, is that not Anti-American propaganda? Is it not traitorous? We already know every word Putin says in the interview will be a lie, so why would we allow anyone to see dangerous misinformation?

It only makes sense to sanction and bring charges against anyone deliberately causing harm to our national security.

Because he is a free citizen and we are not at war with Russia?

I'd actually like to hear Putin's "reasons" so that we can more accurately counter his propaganda/respond appropriately to his abuses.

Far from emotionally attached.  It sucks for the dudes over there.  One is defending their country (despite how you feel about it) and the other is in a supposedly modern battle tank by itself not using any modern tactics getting thrown into the front with no support or training and it shows.

I don't have any specific hatred against Russian soldiers (the ones who don't commit war crimes, anyway).  I also don't think Russia's invasion is justified in any way.  So, seeing Russian tanks get destroyed and the crew run away seems like a win.

  9. Don't rely on the gouge too much.  Go look at the source material the gouge references.  Get good at word searching pubs, since they are electronic.

Study the basics first (IFG).  Then, think through a flight and what procedures/restrictions apply.

I love how crappy the news is in vetting information. They keep reporting that she is the first AF member to ever compete in Miss America when this thread provides proof that statement is not true. Do news agencies even bother with legitimate fact checking, or is that job relegated to making sure nobody ever (news, social media, politics) says anything against leftist dogma?

I've seen a HATR reported on CNN with an animation that was in the wrong location and 90 degrees off from what happened....and "reporters" publish pictures of rubber bullets that were actually foam ear plugs (clearly excessive force from the local PD!)

We seen to be entering a (much welcomed) era where businesses are trying to distance themselves from political topics. Buds Light and Disney are serving as the cautionary tales. I hope it continues.

    One can hope.

so all you "nuanced analytical thinkers" won't address the root cause of Putin's motivation to go into ukraine: unchecked NATO expansion.

some of you think putin woke up and decided on a whim to attack ukraine. it's ironic that you pat yourselves on the back as such strategic thinkers but have a massive blind spot

His desire to rebuild the USSR/Russian Empire?

Ahhh USAFA... like Big Blue, never passes up an opportunity by throwing money at problems in the attempt to get someone else to clean their house...

What the Academy never seems to comprehend, or maybe even just acknowledge, is that a major contributing factor to many of their "problems" is that the place is full of cadets. (Yes, Edward Longshanks 'Braveheart' reference for the other grey-beards in attendance). Cadets are going to make mistakes-- a population demographic of 17-23 year olds, under intense pressure daily (debatable-- it was FAR tougher back in the day!), with limited and regulated pressure-relief options, suddenly given the anonymity of social media and intense social issues streaming around them-- some are going to make bad choices.

If you read the referenced articles that came out of VMI back in 2020 (there are free ones that can be found other than the Washington Post's paywall), you can see the genesis of this issue-- apparently it's not relegated to the East Coast, but USAFA believes they have a problem.

So, what would this silverback recommend?

Lean into it. Get ahead of it. Build a center specifically to address these types of things-- call it the Character and Leadership Center. Build an old-school sundial to mark the location.  Wait, they already did that?

Seriously though-- I'd direct AOCs to get on the app and OBSERVE. DO NOT INTERACT! Look for the leadership lessons and get to the root causes of the statements rather than taking a comment purely at face value. Publish the quotes internal to your organizations and get your cadets talking about them. It has to be a conversation-- cadets will tune out a lecture. They're experts at it. All college students are.

Like the Dodo of old, the cartoons we published were generally attacking an issue that we had at the time. E-Dodo, in some ways, made things worse by removing the oversight of the official publication.  There were times that we pushed the limit just for the purposes of pushing the limit-- the kid in the back of the classroom  who yells "F#CK" just because he knows he'll get a laugh and the punishment will be worth it. But does it contribute anything meaningful?

But we also dealt with serious issues through humor and wit. Our idea was that if you could laugh at something, you could address it and move on. Unfortunately, the expletives for laughs ruined some of that credibility. Not all-- not every artist went down that same rabbit hole.

Like the best instructors know-- look at what the student asked, then look at what they DIDN'T ask in that question. Same with statements made via this social media outlet-- look past the words and look at the issues that they're really commenting on. They're tough issues-- EXACTLY the kind of thing I want officer candidates working through in an ACADEMIC environment.

Realize that some are going to take it too far-- it's a given with that age group. Expect it-- lean into it. Get ahead of it and show them where the off-ramps are before they run themselves too far in the heat of the moment. Some will no matter what you do.  The ones that exhibit TRUE toxicity can be shown the door before they end up on the COMMANDERS ARE DROPPING LIKE FLIES thread.

    It's hard-- leadership is hard.

Contracting out a solution will seem easy-- it's specific, measurable, and will seem attainable as printed on OPBs that get people promoted and off to their next assignment while the true problem still festers. Cadets will go deeper underground once the contractors show up on the threads. They'll spoof and move on. And contracting out leadership will only make the problem worse.

But Zero, isn't your idea what they're trying to get at? Provide the examples so the Character and Leadership Center / AOCs can do their job?  Maybe. But why use a middle-man then? And the worst part of the contract is the direction to de-anonymize the users. That's going to push them further underground and make your problem a maneuvering target.

    They're YOUR cadets.

And guess what? This solution works for ROTC. It works even if there ISN'T an actual problem! It gets our future officers talking about what's going on around them. Too many instructors think that such discussions are a third-rail that carries the potential as career-ending suicide. Maybe. Maybe not if you do it right. Doing nothing or ignoring it is FAR worse in the long run.

Lead them. Teach them. Cut the ones who don't make the grade. Remember that they're kids, and their vectors need to be adjusted. Mine sure did. I'm thankful for the mentors I had at the joint and every assignment afterwards who took the time to keep the engine running, but in a constant and consistent state of adjusting that thrust.

Wait, are you suggesting leaders at an academy that is supposed to develop leaders should demonstrate good leadership rather than contracting out their responsibilities?  What a novel concept.

no a lot of people in our country don't buy the bullshit propaganda narrative of the globalists that it's ukraine or death.

ukraine absolutely cannot win this fight. negotiation is their best way forward. facts not emotion.

but keep stroking it to tom clanceys red storm rising

They decisively blunted the first push, then gained initiative to push back, and are now in a stalemate.  I don't see how that is a "absolutely cannot win" scenario, so long as outside sources are willing to give them more weapons, ammo, and support.  Sure 1v1 Ukraine would lose...but it doesn't have to be 1v1.

I just purchased a Beretta M9.  For nostalgia.

I never thought I'd like to see one of those again.

CA is making me wait two weeks for a M9. There's another purchase I made for xmas..(Ruger 9mm Carbine) they can't give that one until two weeks after the M9 or something like that.

I liked the Deep South because you can buy shotguns at Wal-Mart.   Or an M9 at McDonald's.

    And the GD BBQ

I like CA because in approximately 1.5 months that Ruger will cost twice as much due to taxes.  It's almost as hard purchasing ammo.

But I can buy shrooms at the tobacco store. Fucking nuts.

The single-action trigger is quite nice.  The rest of the design I could leave.

Maybe some day CA will get slapped hard enough by the courts that they will decide it's not worth constantly violating the 2nd Amendment anymore...but I'm not holding my breath.

  17. So, the bad news--pre-solo CR probably has a low chance of a reinstate, unless something was very strange in your scheduling/someone missed teaching you something important.

Good news--if you show a good attitude and work hard, your leadership should help you get whatever next AFSC you are going for.  You should have a non-flying backup plan, and now is the time, most likely.  Take the positive things you learned this far, the skills you improved recently, and use those to help on your next goal.

ukraine is losing. that is a fact. what is your plan to fix that besides throwing money at the problem?

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/12/politics/takeaways-volodymyr-zelensky-washington

zelensky wouldn't be begging for money in DC if things were all good

Ukraine is at an economic and manpower disadvantage, it would be stupid NOT to continually beg for better equipment and money from outside nations.  That's not a indicator of losing.  Terrain-wise, it's pretty much at a statement with local advances of sub-kilometer distances by each side.

Take away external support and Ukraine will lose the conventional fight, due to material shortages and likely increased human losses.  They may choose to go unconventional at that point, but why let that happen when they have rough parity via donations/loans?

The AF needs more fixed wing guys…not more helo pilots that go through T-6 training.

...and that is the reason helo-only is a thing again.  It's also the reason we are giving LTs wings with 115hrs total time.  Not quality, quantity.
