  1. I've decided to leave USAA completely. I've been with them through thick and thin over the last 16+ years, including college. Their customer service is so much worse than when I started with them. Their insurance, mortgages, and banking aren't as competitive either.

Good copy on using Geico...I'm going that route for car insurance. But how about on-line banking, investments, home-owners insurance, and 529s? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  2. Toast to Moose! I was stationed with him in the Wild Boars at Mountain Home. As a young 1Lt, his hair used to be really long...to which the wing commander called him out during a First Friday at the 390th and told him to cut his "goldi-locks"...without hesitation, Moose said, "Nah Scottie (Brig Gen Robin Scott), I'm good bro," as he ran his hand through his hair. Everybody was roaring...

  3. For example, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, has shrunk to only two Active Component F-15E squadrons with a total of 45 aircraft. Nearby Boise ANGB currently has one squadron of 18 A-10s.A divestiture of the A-10s would present an opportunity to move up to 24 F-15Es to the Boise ANGB base in an integrated wing construct.

Wow, if MHAFB would move up the road to Boise, that would be a sweet assignment.

  4. Edit:

This was a nice bonus, just in time for Christmas:

“If you do not, you will be separated instead, and will not receive retirement benefits.”

This has IG complaint written all over it. I can see it now...a 19 year Maj or MSgt isn't notified through an actual human being and is separated...

Maj/MSgt: "FSS, I got a RIP saying I am supposed to separate this spring, but my date for retirement isn't until fall?"

FSS: "Hey, you were notified via vMPF, AMS, and your af.mil email for life that you were affected by DOS roll back."

Maj/MSgt: "I just got back from a 365 deployment and the comm pukes still haven't re-established my NIPR account, so I don't have an account yet. What's DOS roll back?"

FSS: "It's a force shaping measure. You should have attended our symposium over Christmas break."

Maj/MSgt: "But I was on leave..."

FSS: "I'm sorry Sir, but you've been force shaped. Please email AFPC Retirements & Separations Branch for further questions."

Maj/MSgt: "But I don't have a base account set up yet...I'm here now, why can't I talk to you."

FSS: "I apologize, we just process the PSDMs, we don't actually know what they mean."

    Edit: for Three Holer's catch

  5. The AF needs good leaders to stay in, but we've already seen large numbers of that group continuously get out ASAP...

Add this to your list of cons: Less dwell time, increased deployment-to-dwell ratio, and/or higher chance to TDY/PCS for a 365 to Numbnutzistan. For every person in your year group that gets out, and who has an earlier STRD, you just got bumped up closer to deploying in their place. For example, lets say you are a Maj and your STRD is 2003 and you were #100 on the pecking order to deploy for another 180 or 365. If 75 Majors with an STRD later than 2003 separate, retire, get RIF'd, VSP, TERA, etc, then that moves you 25 spots closer to packing your bags again to the CAOC, air advisory group, convoy duty, etc.

"Doing more, with less"...an adage so true in this instance.

  6. Rusty, I don't need to know anything about their leadership outside of BODN. Their posts alone reflect their true colors. They probably read their bios everyday--basking in the light of the boxes they've checked, the fake PME degrees they've earned, and think they've "impacted" something in their organizations that they've "led"...I wonder what the airmen who've served for them (or as Chang would say, "serviced") think of their leadership style?

  7. This is actually not good for us i.e. Capt JoeBagofDonuts and Amn Snuffy. Dr Carter was a huge advocate of the troops especially the guys on the ground in theater. He would routinely circumvent the normal acquisition BS channels to get things we needed ASAP. I'll bet he didn't see eye-eye w/the current Hagel regime or couldn't stand the Legislative crap that was hindering progression. He saw first hand as the Secretary of AT&L what rapid procurement and technology brought to the table and how it became a force multiplier (counter IED, missile defense, RQ170, etc).

Let's pray that he is resurrected in a couple years when Hagel is ousted.

  8. Umm, incorrect. Once an officer is selected for Colonel, even if a previous SDE-select, there is no guarantee of school. The individual no longer meets the DEDB- they meet a special school panel in DPO with no guarantee of school. DPO will try to get O-6 BPZers to school as well, even if not previously SDE-select, but not required and no guarantees.

You're right, it's not a guarantee, but I wasn't talking about those who were previously selected for SDE. The O-6 promotion board does in fact announce SDE selects for a small number who were not previously selected. Like I said, check the official release msg from this past year on MyPers--you can click on the link from a site called the "Air Force Portal" (.mil domain). For instance, one of my friends was recently selected for Colonel BPZ. Since he was not selected BPZ to O-5 or selected for SDE during his IPZ look, he was designated for school on the most recent O-6 list. He just finished up his Sq/CC tour and is heading to NWC. Just trying to clear things up...I hope this helps. Cheers.

  9. Don't post if you don't have a flipping clue what you're talking about. There's no such thing as an O-6 SDE-select. Rate for O-5 is around 15%, which includes all BPZers. This year's O-5 line BPZ rate was 3.1%.

Actually, there is an O-6 SDE select list. It's usually only about a dozen or so per board, and typically given to Lt Col's who make Col BPZ, and have not had a chance to complete JPME II in residence i.e. O-5's who weren't previously selected for SDE. I know two from this past board. There's a site called MyPers...check it out on a web site called the "Air Force Portal". Then go to promotion information. Cheers.

  10. Relax there, Turbo. No one is trying to hurt feelings. If you don't think that people are learning from the back and forth between GC and Rusty et al, then you're sorely mistaken. It's good information that they're both putting out there. At times each of them crosses some imaginary line in an attempt to squash the other one, and all I'm saying is keep it on the level.

It's good he sticks to his guns, but when people go full retard and attack the person that they've created in their minds it gets silly. Nobody is defending GC. In fact if you go back and reference most of the posts people calling for civility are saying that there is actually some pretty good info he's putting out there in between the garbage he can't seem to refrain from saying.

I'll never understand internet posturing... Nobody thinks anyones any tougher for having done it, so why bother. Okay, I'm done trying to be a voice of reason. Let heated rhetoric ruin the valid points that each side is making. Who cares? It's like those far right wing conservatives. Nobody can hear the valid arguments their making sometimes because they lace everything with venom. Zero credibility instantly.

You're right, I'm sorry. I will do better next time.

  11. Guys, attack the arguments he makes, not this person everyone is inventing. He makes some very good points, but then fails to back up some other hard to believe points. You don't impress anyone by picking some Internet fight. Just saying...

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Sorry I don't impress you...my feelings are hurt. Go ahead and waste your time by arguing back with a guy who has demonstrated, after several posts, that he just wants to stir the pot. I admit, he started strong after a couple posts, but then showed his true colors with double-speak and borderline kindergarten replies. He has lost all cred in my book. Just sayin bro...

  12. Rusty et al, please heed the words of those before and stop feeding his fire. Wang Chang is prob a nav or cyber Maj who has read his own press clippings. He's prob an IDE select sitting at the MAJCOM or below level. It's easy for someone like him with a short man complex to sit atop his staff perch and chuck spears. I would love to have it out with this dbag over a beer at Applebee's (which is where he hunts for cougars).

  13. One more point... i'd love to know who you were talking to at Grand Forks telling us that most people there volunteered for that assignment and are now living in the land of sunshine and lollipops. GMAFB .

He doesn't have to talk with any real person...he probably sifted thru the ppt's and has a "virtual" finger on the pulse.
