  1. My favorite BX story came from Osan. I was looking for some good socks for running and there was a particular brand/style that they had carried that were really good. I couldn't find any for a while...just cheap, thin crap. I asked the manager when they'd get the good socks in and he replied they stopped carrying that style. Why?, I asked. He replied, "Well, they sold so fast that they were hard to keep in stock, so we stopped ordering them." I was dumbfounded at the answer...the man was clearly a true marketing specialist!

That must be a standard line at AAFES managment training. They said the same thing to Nav students at Randolph when they stopped carrying these super cool German made pens which were ideal for our chart construction.

  2. From our MAJCOM A1 this morning:

    - 14 "take-back" notifications went out (10 enlisted, 4 officer)

-- CV does not have firm confirmation but does expect AFPC to honor those retirements

If those numbers are true, then every single one of them, and then a few extras posted they had the "take back" email on the AF Retirements facebook page.

  3. Back to TERA...I submitted back in January. I have no ADSCs (11M) and I'm on the summer VML. I thought they were holding my assignment until my TERA decision was made, but I was notified of my assignment today. So now I have 7 days to decide on my assignment. It would be nice if I could talk to a REAL person about my options WRT taking the assignment and how that impacts TERA. Oh and that comes with a 15 June RNLTD.

Are you continued or a LtCol? What it looks like is the Air Force is cleaning house on the continued Majors but haven't approved any under 19 year LtCols yet (a big yet!)

  4. Did anyone that got a "take back" email on Friday already have retirement orders? I got my orders Friday. Fuck, now I have to go in and check. On a Saturday. Again. If CSAF isn't flying nuts from his flagpole after this, I don't care how good of a guy he is, his term is a failure. Three drunk monkeys could run a drawdown better and still have time to fling poo.

    H

To be clear I haven't gotten the "take back" email and mypers shows me as approved. However, my retirement date is gone from my CDB and my record had gone from a code 20 (projected for retirement) to code 10 (no projected action).

Almost a direct quote from TFSC was that "you are not retiring 1 August and you will probably get a mypers notification that you are disapproved"

To specifically answer your question I did not have orders. Which is interesting because when I talked to FSS on Friday they said the person to cut the orders was out but they would be but as soon as they were back.

  5. Notes:

    • Recoupment
    • Officers who leave the Air Force under voluntary separation and retirement programs without completing their Post-9/11 GI Bill Active Duty Service Commitment forfeit the transferred benefit, and any benefits that dependents used may be treated as an overpayment subject to recoupment by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Officers who wish to retain their transfer benefit may consider continued service in the Guard or Reserve through the PALACE CHASE program. See Attachment 3, FY14 PALACE CHASE Program (PSDM 13-65), for further information. For questions, contact the DVA at 1-888-GIBILL1 (1-888-442-4551). This note does not apply to officers approved for VSP or TERA.

Anybody have any clarification on this paragraph? Aren't VSP&TERA the only voluntary programs right now?

  6. I haven't heard it yet, but I definitely heard it during the navy yard shooting but my favorite taking head argument against guns:

"These shootings are happening on military bases where almost everyone is armed! The argument that an average citizen could stop a mass shooting is ridiculous"

As if we march around all day in formation with weapons at "right shoulder."

  7. Congrats to the people who got approved. Good luck to the folks still waiting.Thank you for your service. Your experience and knowledge will be sorely missed.

Thanks man, but now that it looks like I'm going to retire, I'm not going anywhere. I plan on coming thru the gate every morning at about 0715 and regaling the gate guard with long stories about my service overseas and lots and lots of questions and complaints about the pharmacy and PX.

  8. Does anyone know if AFPC is adjusting the separation date window for VSP? Originally September was the latest one could separate, but I'm wondering if there is any official or unofficial guidance indicating otherwise.

Here's what you can safely assume: no one anywhere in the entire Air Force actually knows what's going on with the force managment programs.

  9. I subscribed to page update alerts. I didn't see any VSP changes...maybe they posted something about TERA.

The following answers have recently been updated:

    New/Updated Answers

Officer Force Management Programs (View Answer <https://gum-crm.csd.disa.mil/app/answers/detail/a_id/26962> )

Love it..."'something' was updated, but we'll leave it to you to click through the six links and three attached PDFs to find out if that 'something' applies to you"

Next time I brief a low level I'm going to say "'something' might be in our flight path, maybe at an conflicting altitude...keep your eyes open"

  10. With the heat the AF's already taken for the GO's per capita in comparison to the other services I guess I should be surprised.. but I'm not. Wonder if the prepared questions for the next AF Secretary/CSAF tour will include how they justify this.

I'm not an Occupy Wall Street kinda guy.. but great Noodly God.. talk about the 1%.

I thought the same thing...in all seriousness...revolutions have started for much less than this.
