Beware pro rata. Move any Trad IRA money into a Trad 401k if at all possible. Try to do the contribution and conversion in the same calendar year as the tax year. ie not between 1 Jan and 15 Apr. Active duty experience only. Crew chief schedule will flex with flying window, surges, exercises, TDY, and deployments. Could be weekday shifts 8 hours, could be rotating shifts of 12 hours. Could be just straight 12 hour shifts until shit is fixed. Every location will be different depending on the mission. Bottom line, if you're goal is to become a fighter pilot, you'll find the time. My crew chief school was around 6 months of actual school. Who knows what it is now though.
