  1. They just announced their -46 version. However, not all of the watch works due to multiple FCIFs.

  2. Diametrically opposed desires. The deficiencies of the A-10 have been answered, it’s called the F-35 - which lacks the strengths of the A-10. The DOD needs to accept that air superiority is a requirement for CAS performance at the level we’ve all become accustomed to in the last 20 years. So what we really need in the “perfect,” but realistic, world is exactly what we have now - a community/platform(s) that provide CAS expertise in the fight that has AS, and accept a reduced/nil CAS capability in the fight that does not have AS. Bottom line, we don’t really have a CAS capability problem (except maybe new hardware to replace aging fleets), we have a problem understanding/accepting reality of AS vs. no AS.

  3. The vast majority of American's don't want any kind of mask mandate, and are happy the airline mandate went away. The minority of people supporting the mask mandate are: The current crop of Democrats Most of the mainstream press That minority of grown-ass adults who are impressionable and struggle with critical thinking, who buy into everything they are told by the government and the media. Those are the people in your Facebook feed, and quoted in such esteemed rags as The Atlantic and the NYT. White women tend to be overrepresented here, but that's a topic for another time. A special mention goes out to every mid-level white collar employee out there who has been able to seamlessly transition from poking at their laptop in an office building, to poking at their laptop in their home office, while wearing their pajamas. The so-called "Laptop Class." These are the people who are comfy in their homes, and only have to don a mask when going out for groceries, hitting the local Home Depot, or maybe the occasional trip to a restaurant. These are the people who haughtily say "What's wrong with you, masks aren't so bad!!!" They retreat home, with no thought for the rest of the populace out there working masked-up all day long in the grocery stores, restaurants, factories, and elsewhere. The midwits of the world can angrily post to Facebook all day long. No one fucking cares, except their fellow zealots. Everyone else has moved on.

  4. I bought a Christoper Ward a few years back, wore it every day for 6.9 years til my squadron bought us Garmin Fenix 6X https://www.christopherward.com/int/dive-watches/C60-Trident-GMT-600/C60-42AGM3-S0KK2-HK.html

  5. Also not "latest", but I like Red Flag: The Ultimate Game (1981). My dad was was flying F-4s there at the time so maybe I'm biased.

  6. They don't. The clueless become generals. I never had a non-flying job in my career. When selected for O-7 (and got a similar speech), I said I had two requirements to accept; 1) must be a flying gig and 2) of course it can't be in D.C. (duh). Hence I'm not a general.

  7. Seems there's been some massive industrial fires at key infrastructure sites over the past few days. The kind that grinds Russia's ability to make missile propellants, chemicals, solvents, etc to a halt. That they can't now import due to sanctions. Real shame.

  8. They rereleased it a few years back actually. Another pilot in my squadron got one recently, and there several of us with the second production model. The original run was limited to 135 pieces, has a SAC patch where the second hand is, NKAWTG at the 12 o’clock position and a blue face. It was popular enough that they redid it but without the USAF-specifics so any country’s tanker pilots can get one.

  9. I'm with Pooter. It's been a long time since high school, and even then, it's not like we went into the minutia of how the federal courts work vs state courts, the power of the federal judiciary below the Supreme Court, etc. I get that it happened, and I'm thrilled that it did. I'm just equally surprised at the scope of thing (a single federal judge overturning a Presidential EO), the long timeline, etc. Again though, glad that it was overturned. And, surprising no one, all the typical players are taking the typical sides, using the typical talking points. Such as: NPR: The judge who tossed mask mandate misunderstood public health law, legal experts say You see, she made the cardinal sin of the Church of Covid. The judge didn't listen to "the experts." Also, it was just her that did it. This one judge. Not like there is an entire legal system behind her. It was just the one rouge judge who is determined to kill us all. [/sarcasm] NPR: What to know about Judge Kathryn Mizelle, who struck down the travel mask mandate Another article looking at the judge herself. Nominated to the bench by Trump in Sept 2020, when she was only 33. Some questions raised at the time about her limited experience, but ultimately she was confirmed. Some comments about her right leaning views, because, surprise surprise, right leaning presidents tend to nominate right leaning judges. She's a....she, so it must be so frustrating that Judge Mizelle can't be Kavanaugh-ed out with some salacious #meetoo accusation. Although maybe they'll dredge up some law school classmate (male or female) with an accusation of impropriety. But when you can't use sexism, go to racism, homophobia, and the newest bugaboo, trans-phobic! It's all so fucking tiresome.

  10. Last para from the link: ”If Dawson were going into combat in an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, M-1 Abrams tank, or on foot I asked, would you wear a Garmin D2 Mach 1? “I wouldn’t take it with me,” she replied.”

  11. it does come down to the PSO for that vault. But I assure you, fenixs are allowed in very high level vaults (albeit with PSOs who aren’t douches). @Standby Did you switch MAJCOMs? I’ve hit ACC, NGB, PACAF, AFSOC, other service/org, and only come across one time I had to leave my fenix outside…and it was due to that specific PSO being a typical tight ass GS. There are industry places that dont allow smart watches (again, PSO driven), but usually not an issue since civ attire is standard/people generally wear more dressed up watches in business attire.

  13. I recommend the Tudor Black Bay GMT. It's about double what you want to spend, but it's what Rolex was before Rolex became impossible to obtain. It's an amazing watch from their sister brand, and IMO, it's worth the premium you'd pay.

  15. Bad news Flea. I’m in the Air Force Cyber community. They are struggling to retain good people because… 1. They think they can outsource most IT work. 2. They aren’t identifying and retaining talent 3. Private industry has a shortage of skilled Cyber dudes/dudettes and is willing to pay big bucks. sound familiar?

  16. Too bad there wasn't someone from the guard there to tell him "I appreciate your recruiting efforts for the guard, but we don't need the help. We already have plenty of guys rushing us trying to escape toxic leaders like you." How have generals become so clueless that they can actually think like that and then be so dumb as to say it out loud in front of an audience of fighter pilots? Is he really a Manchurian Candidate intending to destroy "his Air Force"?

  17. Bottom line like SocialD stated and many others - If the aircraft is not doing what is required or what you want, turn OFF the automation. All of it if need be. Fly your aircraft! Valid videos. *Previously we weren’t allowed to hand-fly specific departures ever. Now we are allowed if the crew agrees and amount of busy-work/congestion is manageable. Slap automation on when required; otherwise, maintain your proficiency as best you can. It’s not easy in the Heavy world when we fly long legs (1 maybe 2, rarely 3) with 3 or 4 pilots on a routine basis. Must keep vigilant.

  18. Without knowing your airline, it is tough to say especially since many had special deals during COVID. JetBlue allows service beyond five years and simply requires you to present orders and then they stop paying your 401k matching and profit sharing, if any.

  20. Pilots are currently on a 35 flight hour syllabus which comes out to about a 4-6 week program depending on weather. Check ride at about 25 hours. Currently, there are 5 2-hour flights AFTER the checkride that must be completed before you can leave. These flights have little to no syllabus requirements right now, meaning you basically tell the IP what you'd like to polish up on during that flight. My understanding is that the syllabus was expanded during COVID due to the Air Force feeling like they were leaving flight hours on the table. Rumor is the Air Force is going to continue to increase the number of flight hours (up to 50) in the IFT pilot syllabus to front-load basic aviation training in the cheaper DA-20 rather than the more expensive T6. They'll likely be reworking the syllabus at some point as these 10 flight hours post-checkride feel relatively light in training value. I can't complain cause getting paid for more flight hours is not half bad, and there is little to no stress after the checkride is completed.

  21. It's total insanity. I don't know what the point is, but it sure isn't 'science,' or 'public health.' The rationale for mask mandates was always based on two main concepts: 1) "Flatten the curve" so hospitals don't get overrun. 2) In the good ol' days of cloth and surgical masks, 2-way masking was touted as the solution for the fact that those types of masks don't protect the wearer. "My mask protects you, and your mask protects me," they told us. Fast-forward to today, and both those concepts are OBE. They mailed out 400 million "free" N95's across the country and the CDC declared that 1-way masking using them was "highly effective" at protecting the wearer. So now, "your mask protects you," and we're at no danger of overrunning hospitals? Great. Mandates should have ended that very instant. If 1-way masking is highly effective, and we're not going to overrun hospitals, why should I be forced to wear one? The reason is that they've decided that the US is a nanny state. They know what's best for you, and will help you make the "right choices" for yourself ...by not allowing you to make choices for yourself. And sadly, very few people are calling them out on it or even highlighting the disconnect. Vote them all out.

  23. Attention Columbus AFB IP's and student pilots... Beale will be bringing a T-38A to the Columbus AFB Airshow next month. The plan is to get there Thursday, and have an informal meeting Friday for anyone interested in learning more about the U-2 Program. No rent-a-crowd... the only people that will be there should be pilots interested in learning more about a U-2 career. Myself and Lt Col "Ghost" will be there. Ghost is the U-2 FTU DO, and will become the 99 RS/CC around June. He was a former T-38 IP at CBM 18 months ago and flew the U-2 previous to that. If you won't be available Friday morning, you simply need to let me know and I can arrange for us to meet at the airshow on Saturday and chat. As mentioned, happy to talk to student pilots also. We can't get you for at least 4 years, but knowledge is power. Drop me a pm if interested.
