  2. When you have to redesign your MQT syllabus so much that it looks like a mini B-Course...

  3. I'm leaning toward actual idiot. It's pretty wild to see such a severe emotional reaction aimed at a car company and more specifically Tesla autopilot.. a feature you never even have to turn on if you don't want to. Is it perfect? Of course not. But we aren't measuring it against perfection. We're measuring it against the competence of the average driver, which is to say, complete trash.

  4. There's a problem in what you just said, and it's *exactly* what the professional DC people want you to do. (But I agree with your point, obviously) There is no longer any connection between the political class and the voter, including on the right. We are now in the phase where we-the-people need to figure that out. "The left" cannot encompass the activists, journalists, professors, politicians, and voters. It's too broad, and intentionally so. Their power comes from making us hate our neighbors. If we can't talk to each other, we won't realize we have far, far, far more in common with our opposing-side neighbor/coworker/friends/etc than we do with the people we're voting for. The left love their polls, yet no polls on transgender sentiment. American voters overwhelmingly agree that men shouldn't play women's sports, and kids shouldn't take puberty blockers without parental consent. The Democrats (professionals, not voters) are trying to are trying to convince their constituency that conservatives hate transgender people and wish them misery and harm. That way the liberal voters don't have to vote for conversion surgery for five-year-olds, they can just vote "against bigotry." This is the same strategy employed in the BLM fight today.

  5. Adam is a great American and I hope he wins another term. He has done a LOT behind the scenes to help the men and women who serve....many of you on this forum have benefited from his efforts and don't even know it. He was right to vote his conscience and stand on his principle.

  6. Extremism 'Has Reared Its Head' in Air Force Special Operations, General Says I am a few years removed from service but in my 26 years I never encountered a single case. Obviously this type of thinking has no business in the military, just wondering if anyone has actually seen anything like this or is it yet another over-reaction witch hunt?

  7. Don't know him personally or professionally as I'm not in his district, hope he's an ok guy in person and will accept those testimonials about the many things he's done for service folk. Appreciate that. However, his constituents, the ones he's elected to represent seem to disagree with his stance rather strongly to include at least one county, I believe two but stand to be corrected, GOP committee censuring him for his vote to impeach Trump. The one county I am aware of is LaSalle County which is part of his district. Other county so censuring Iroquois which is also within this district. His choice to roll the dice to see if they either forget by next election or whether his district gets dissolved by the Illinois legislature as is likely if the state loses a congressional seat due to redistricting. I do take issue with his vote to strip the bat-sh1t crazy Georgia congresswoman of all her committee assignments. He helped deny her constituents their effective representation that they knowingly elected her to. As always in politics, IMO, it's a case of follow the money. His just started anti-Trump PAC combined with his many appearances on liberal media looks like a way to set up a comfy post-congressional lifestyle, either via K Street and/or TV gigs. Don't blame him a bit but it just strikes me as the B-model Scarborough. edited to add the specific counties which is in the district being discussed.

  8. I mean, that's the point of having sims... I'd think the t-6 would make for a decent companion trainer, primarily for building air sense and all around flying fundamentals, and for instrument training as well. Sure, maybe you can't do RNAV, but how you set up RNAV guidance, check/monitor RAIM, and execute/activate missed approaches is very platform centric. However, keeping the LDI centered on a traditional approach while dealing with actual weather and radios and hand flying teaches skills transferable to RNAV approaches and to any other aircraft. But what gets cut to pay for a companion trainer (and the corresponding logistic tail)? We're not getting more money any time soon.

  9. You're right. Luke has been way ahead of the AF on this for awhile. But, seriously, only Luke. This is finally spreading to the rest of the AF, starting at UPT bases. You know, sell the kid a dime bag of professional fitness management, study tutoring, etc at UPT and they'll expect the follow on bases to keep selling....

  10. I guess I didn’t phrase this correctly, I see no problem with pilots becoming more fit, getting stuff like a personal trainer, coach, etc. But the way I read the article this was another thing that is going to be pushed onto pilots during initial training. At Luke I’m 99% sure they already have something like this. There was a dedicated fitness coach/trainer in a gym that was only for pilots. Fitness is great, but I personally feel like mishaps should be addressed before anything else. I’m not in a big picture position, and again I’m a nobody that knows nothing, just trying to get a better understanding of everything. Thanks for the reply. 11. Redirect fire...DoD implemented that policy, AF just executed the policy. Plus, several other flags are still authorized as well.

  12. Totally agree! I’m just quoting what people have told me on why they fly the flag. I’ve actually seen rebel flags with “It’s Not Hate, it’s Heritage” and “Southern Pride” and “Sons of the Confederacy” and probably the most stupid, “The South Will Rise Again” stitched on to them. The only flag I fly and have ever flown is the flag of the United States!

  13. Southern heritage/pride of what?... Could just as easily fly their state flag to show a heritage connection without the drama/baggage of flying a confederate flag used in open rebellion against the US

  14. That’s the thing, I have seen the rebel flag flown by both black and white people. Is it still considered a symbol of hate if a rebel flag is on a the truck being driven by a black person? I had a black guy in my squadron from TX who drove a big ass F-250 with 6” lift, 35” tires and the back window was covered by a rebel flag sticker. Still considered a hate symbol? Again, I’m not defending it and I probably am being dismissive about it because it doesn’t affect me like it does some people. I never grew up around it and it really wasn’t until I was stationed in MS that it became so prominent around me. I don’t see it anywhere on my base and I really don’t see it (minus a handful of people) in the town I live in. also, why can’t you ban it? I would think, especially in today’s day and age, that a wing/base CC has the right to ban symbols like the rebel flag from being shown on their base. If the DoD says that the rebel flag is a hate symbol, then ban it! Me personally, I would rather let the people fly the flag and plaster it all over their vehicles because then I know who they are and where they’re possible coming from. That’s just me though.

  16. Fair enough, but the right has done the same, indicating that anyone who votes for Biden is a socialist. The "leaders" of both sides love their hyperbole. Nice chunks of red meat their respective bases can chomp on, while staying obedient to their "R" or "D" masters.

  19. Thank this guy.... FWIW I agree that this will likely get way more play than it deserves & you guys shouldn’t have to take time out from hacking the mish to do CBTs de jour. Just saying images like this don’t help the cause.

  20. Remember when human trafficking and sexual assault were supposedly rampant in the military and SARC CBTs trumped Ops? Good times. Alt-right Extremism” in the ranks is just another example of blowing these things out of proportion. Is it present like sexual assault and human trafficking are/were? Yes, and perpetrators should be dealt with accordingly, but the military isn’t full of Nazi human trafficking rapists. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  22. Scudaria Cameron Glickenhaus is the next great American manufacturer I have my eye on right now. They will be competing for overall victory at Le Mans against Ferrari in the near future in the new top spec hypercar class. Their entry looks like pure sex compared to the recent prototype entries in WEC racing. This’ll be a real underdog vs Ferrari rivalry (unlike powerhouse Ford taking them on in the 60s).

  23. My take on PME in the current environment from the cheap seats... With the removal of “off-the-board” IDE/SDE designees, the playing field has leveled a bit and statistically, the average person’s (average as in “generic” not record or performance) chances of being selected improved. At the same time, the retention issues led to the relaxation of some parts of the process (no prejudice for turning it down, trading slots, etc). Tons of people picked up off the alt lists as well. It became a buyer’s market. COVID is obviously impacting the retention piece but I doubt AFPC has any idea of how that plays out long term. I think the inertia of the current situation will last at least another cycle or two. I’m not promoting or deriding PME - like anything else it’s great for some folks (break in Ops tempo, some great locations if not at Maxwell), it also brings sacrifices (multiple moves, payback tours, ADSC). In general it offers more folks an opportunity to compete for PME if they want to, and therefore more folks will be in the mix for SQ/CC opportunities as well. Promotions are facing a similar situation. I know a few folks who picked up O-6 on the most recent board without any traditional commands or res SDE. USAF is hurting for O-6s and that need will trickle down to the O-5 boards. Word on the street is that even the Colonels’ group is beginning to understand that folks’ personal preferences will need to be met (previously something they never gave an F about) in order to retain enough folks to man Pentagon desks. The aperture has widened for certain career and promotion opportunities, but like anything else, it’s totally up to the individual to weigh cost/benefit. FWIW I attended non-USAF IDE in res off the alternate board. Great year doing non-AF stuff.

  24. The ink on the revised, idiotic new UPT syllabus isn’t even dry and now CSAF says, “We may have pushed...a little too far.” Geebus, ya think? If only hundreds of IPs told them that ahead of time. For years.

  27. If you get hired by an airline take it. No doubt. Cargo is only hiring for now. But the other 4 pax will soon. ASAM/IDE sucks. Staff sucks. But if you can’t get hired I guess go the school/staff route...then hope you have an assignment that you’re flying before retiring/separating.

  28. Mandatory service reinforces that identity and helps perpetuate and grow that identity. No disagreement there. Also, being a homogenous society ethnically also helps create a very strong national identity, as the two (nationality and ethnicity) become intertwined. Race doesn't matter, until it does. (If you haven't noticed, asians can be very racist, especially to other groups of asians, furthering that strong sense of identity). Though South Korea being all in during war is likely practical: they are a small country geographically, and surrounded by water on 3 sides and an enemy on the other, so they don't have much of a choice. Everyone has to play a part, because you just can't hide it escape the fighting. Same with Israel. Contrast that with us. How many people here would actively push their kids to volunteer for military service as a top option post-high school, even if it's only for an initial commitment before moving on to something else? Do you think making service mandatory would make the service experience any better (and build a positive service experience), or worse as resources are stretched thin? We're also a fairly diverse nation, with multiple races and ethnicities, so ethnicity doesn't act as a unifying bond. Our unifying bond is an idea, and not a physical characteristic in our population, which makes that bond tenuous when we disagree on those ideas and the direction we are heading.

  29. There's a lot of straight and level time in both but Airlift has more events / missions that are AP off and can be challenging (Low level, NVG, Assult strip, Airdrop, etc..). Tanker has some events that are require some of that pilot shit (Min Interval TOs, AP off AR, Formation, IP demos, etc...) but there is more time in the Flight Levels with the AP on. Blessed and lucky, got to fly both over my career, Tanker was my first assignment and I enjoyed it and later in the ANG got to do Airlift enjoyed it too, I'm back at a Tanker wing now and still enjoy it. Good trips in both and crappy trips in both and it is even with me as to which I would recommend. Saw more places you would want to go to in the tanker (Pacific, Europe, Canada) dragging fighters / bombers occasionally though. Both communities have their quirks, about equal on what I found good / annoying. Everything is what you make of it. Good luck.

  30. He’s getting challenged by Catalina Lauf, she ran in 20 against a Dem and didn’t win. She was one of many female’s running last time. She had more support this time from the Republican Party, which Imo she should have last time as well, and isn’t afraid to put America First and not just ride the coat tails of the tea party movement then do something else. Only time will tell.
