  1. No dog in the fight. But the 480FS Wikipedia page has an awesome “Woke era to present write up.” never seen that before must be a new AF Historian.

  3. Also strip that dude of his call sign...everyone forever more refer to him as rank and last name, even when talking about him in a conversation. His call sign should cease to exist and never be spoken by another individual again. He doesn’t deserve it.

  4. I was that crew chief, I can see that being incredibly frustrating, especially on your own dime. That being said, that's part of the process. It sucks, but from my point of view, I saw it as I was being interviewed for 4 years. When It came time for the board, you know they contacted every supervisor I had and asked how is this dude? Any shot of a slot could've been shot down right there. Not saying kick sand by any means, but as many have said on this website, keep pushing and sharpen your package and interview skills up and I honestly believe they see that.

  5. There's only so much you can control. Hardest one for me was when I interviewed somewhere one year, they said I was in the top third of interviewees, and the only reason I wasn't selected was because the guys who got selected interviewed the year prior. Fast forward one year...didn't even get an interview at the same place and my app was much stronger. I can't really explain that one, or why I get certain interviews some places and not others. I just look at it and say, it's probably a good thing you didn't get selected there because there is another squadron out there who actually wants you, what you can bring to the table, and would be a much better fit. The problem is that you don't find that out until after the interview and everything is already a sunk cost. I agree, it stings to put the emotional, monetary, and time investment into each unit, but it stings more when you don't even get the chance to interview. I am an out-of-towner for every unit, so I would like to think that as long as you get an interview, each dude you are interviewing with has an equal chance, but I doubt that is usually true. Always an uphill battle, even more so recently.

  7. Oh I’ve seen plenty of that. But these two individuals are hard to believe, even in today’s AF. Regardless, sounds like this is most likely a sq/cc thing; my hope is the OG sits him down and tells him to rethink his dumbassery.

  8. You haven't figured out that good dude ≠ good leader? The system is designed to select for exactly this type of action. Every single step of the process. There's only one option: quit. Your country doesn't need you right now. And when it does, these careerist clowns will be the first to go.

  10. I’m still mind blown that Tesla hasn’t spent more time trying to attack the segment I think would make the most impact in wedging it’s self into American driveways. Crossover/SUV/minivan is what I need as a middle class household with the budget to afford an EV, not a luxury sedan or hyper powered space truck. And no the Model X absolutely does not qualify for this. I don’t need a battery powered Jeep Compass Where the heck is the Tesla model to take on the Honda Pilots of the world. 11. Sounds like you think this individual doesn't fit the part on that last bit? Being the local probably does give a leg up getting the interview, but as you said, should be a level playing field once you get to the interview. I interviewed multiple times at the unit I ended up getting hired at, and plenty of local dudes got passed up each interview. Maybe that guy has been interviewing for the past few years and they finally gave him a shot. I'd refrain from making assumptions when you're on the interviewee side of the table. Just my $0.02.

  12. @URTHopeful2021 210-565-2542 should take you there, I left a few messages but didn't get a callback although that was right around release/ice storm time. Mr Hornburg does seem to get on the rated assignments portal fairly often and answered a couple of my questions there.

  13. Yup understood... I just found it curious that I got the RIP but no dates in CDB while others have the date loaded there but no RIP. AF standard amirite?

  14. @Dirty12 @Weav what @URT21Select said is correct. If it is loaded, it’ll show up under projected training. As a note, it shows up on the CDB on vMPF, but does not show up on my SURF. I’m not versed enough in AF systems to know why but that’s what is currently showing for me

  15. The ink on the revised, idiotic new UPT syllabus isn’t even dry and now CSAF says, “We may have pushed...a little too far.” Geebus, ya think? If only hundreds of IPs told them that ahead of time. For years.

  16. Or they went with the local kid because he interviewed better. There may be some bias towards the local guy, but it comes down to how the unit likes you on that interview weekend. Yeah it sucks, but them's the breaks sometimes. I was passed over for local guys a few time, but then got it after sticking with it.

  17. Pretty much what @Kiloalpha said. This is where things get a little sticky, from what I’ve been told. You can get a Reserves recruiter to schedule you for MEPS, BUT that then means the Reserves own your file. If you go to a Guard unit, there’s paperwork that has to be run through the wickets to get your already completed MEPS packet released to the Guard. Again, not 100% sure about this, but it’s what I was told when I was looking at both. As for FC1, it sounds as though it’s nearly impossible to get one before getting hired now. It wasn’t impossible in the past, but, as Bob Dylan said, “times they are a changin.” The hiring slowdown, COVID, and limited scheduling have shifted things drastically.

  20. No shit. And honestly, 95% of callsigns in my experience are not even offensive in any way...usually a funny story behind them and that’s about it. Wonder if I should celebrate my millionth RF this summer with a Ben Dover or Mike Hunt name tag.

  21. Scooter, Apps are assembled and going out. Got a fam flight in a f-16 this past october , not for me. trying to stick to heavies. I will apply all over my regional area. I get the importance of relationships, kind of hard right now due to covid restrictions. Fortunately I get to pick the brains of two pilots every day and realize how small of a world it is because somebody knows somebody in the aviation community.

  23. Yeah, unfortunately that's the state of things at the moment. Not many units are doing in-person visits. That much is out of your hands for now. Do what you can and attend all the zoom invites you are offered. That will show interest.

  29. In the past month the warhawks have also lost - Their hand signal/gang sign (used to be a W by lowering the ring finger - reason given was that it looked too much like the shocker) - "FNG" name. Previously new pilots were referred to as Filthy Beans (FB) until named. The new "new guy" call sign is New Warhawk ________ (first name only). NW is not an accepted abbreviation for "New Warhawk" as it may be misconstrued (???) - Top 6-9 meetings are no longer referred to as Top 6-9 meetings due to the sexual nature of their name. They are now Top 4-8 meetings, "or commander, DO, ADO, and Flt CC meetings - no other names will be accepted"
