  1. I think I'm also in the poor genetics camp. Typically I'm 5'8" ~160lbs. Running has always been a struggle for me - I was the kid that could never even finish a 1mi run in grade school and even into early high school. I always struggled with keeping my breath...was screened for asthma and other shit as a kid but always checked out with normal lungs and cardiovascular from a purely medical standpoint. My legs and energy level had absolutely no issue...it was literally a question of being able to breathe on a run. I probably didn't make things easier by smoking heavily all throughout college later on, but I have to do a 2 or 3 month workup before a PT test that involves multiple 1.5's per week starting at 15min/mi pacing and progressively get towards a passing time by the date the test rolls around. When it comes to situps and pushups I can absolutely dominate and easily max out my score with no more than a week or two prep but the run just kills me. On the one hand I am proud to overcome what seems to be a sort of inherent handicap purely by work ethic, but on the other hand I wish I was that dude who could just show up for a test and crush an 8min/mi pace without thinking about it. Is what it is...

  3. You can’t blame the average Republican voter for being upset after this election. You had DNC-funded attorneys sue states with Democrat-headed Attorneys General/Boards of elections. They “settled” the court cases to get absentee ballot restrictions (passed by legislatures) changed, essentially doing a run-around of Republican controlled state legislatures. You had the media and social media completely black out coverage of the Hunter Biden/China story. To the point that people were banned from tweeting about it because it was THAT wrong. Yet now the media agrees it’s a story? Only after their guy gets elected? The Biden campaign wasn’t asked any hard, substantive questions during the campaign, and they never once complained about access, despite him calling a lid every morning. To the point that when they did get a chance to ask questions... they asked what ice cream he was eating. The media effectively killed their credibility (or what little of it was left). So, the right is searching for their own media to fill the gaps. Yet they’re being called lunatics for creating new outlets outside of the liberal media establishment, when it was the “impartial” media that drove them to it. The more the media shouts from the rooftops that the election was perfect, non-fraudulent and therefore Biden won... the more certain folks on the right call bullshit and believe the opposite. Because the media has lied the last 8/10 times, so what’s the chance they’re honest now? Listen. I don’t like this shit either, and I think they’re wrong on a big chunk of it. But it helps to try and understand how they got here instead of painting them as redneck idiots.

  5. It's odd, to me, that no one has said 'It's the car,' when referring to Russell driving Lewis' car last week. Not to take anything away from George, but he did essentially just step into Lewis' car and make it 'go' the same way Lewis does. It would be an amusing turnabout to have Merc say goodbye to Lewis, and hire George. You might say, well Lewis can go anywhere and win. I say no. Lewis would end up in a slower car, with another team, and be like Alonso - finishing every race in 4th or 5th or lower, and never capturing another title again. When was the last time we saw Lewis have to fight through the crowd to win (two seasons ago), and even that was again, in the superfast Merc. Oh well, maybe my feelings are all hurt because Russell got several bad rolls of the dice. Lewis' return on Sunday, really looked like the return of the same old boring. At least Verstappen was able to convert everything for the win. Or was it the car (Merc) again, not working properly as was claimed?

  6. Here's a wild suggestion: the sitting president of the United States could refrain from pushing conspiracy nonsense all day every day. It won't solve the problem completely, but trump conceding and working for a smooth transition would go a long way towards shutting up both CNN and the proud boys.

  7. If they are worried about that then they need to move it to the clinic and have it part of your annual PHA. Because you can't outrun your diet. Lots of dudes out there draining a Monster, running a 10 minute mile and a half, and then celebrating with Tornadoes and more energy drinks from the shoppette followed by a full pizza for dinner. If it's cardiovascular risk they want to lower then it's time to discuss it in context of lowering stress, eating better, and getting an appropriate amount of exercise.

  10. Don't forget, all this after indulging (and revering) Stacy Abrams in her fantasy of winning the Georgia election. I don't like the reaction of the Republicans, but I understand it. Just like when the left screamed that a person's race was a critical element of their identity, then were shocked that white supremacists made a comeback. Be careful the rules you make, for others may follow them.

  11. I was just poking fun at the ID thing - it was half a joke (I don’t take Parler or any social media seriously), but on a serious note... Colorado is a great example of a shit show. I haven’t been a resident or legal voter of that state for 7 years, and despite multiple emails to the SOS, I still receive ballots for every election. Haven’t had a CO license in the same amount of time. Same exact thing with Florida (but 4 years instead of 7). I could have voted three times this election - that’s ridiculous. Good thing I’m honest, but I guarantee a lot of people aren’t. Its simple - require a current state ID to vote in said state. Don’t have one, then you’re not voting; want to vote, than you can put the effort into getting an ID. That would go a long ways to further securing elections.

  12. Yea, the President can stop saying it was stolen and express confidence in the system with caveats for the non-election impacting amount of fraud that takes place. Otherwise, nope. Trumpists will continue to claim for all time that it was a robbery otherwise. Same as when you get a toxic leader anywhere, it sucks until they're actually gone, but if they've convinced the minions to be toxic...it last for a long-long time.

  13. That's the problem. You get to the point that you need speed training. I spend most of the year trying to improve my fitness in the sweet spot/upper threshold range so that I can increase my speed over 100 miles. The problem is, when I break out to do speed training for the PT tests, it hurts my time on the bike. It adds a ton of impact and anaerobic work which then kills my 2 or 3 hour work out rides the next day. So I actually have to lose total fitness in order to speed up my time on the PT test before returning to a plan where I can increase my fitness. I go out and run my 10:30 and then spend 6 weeks trying to get back to where I was before I detoured to my PT test regimen. I would prefer a "choose your own adventure" test. Pick 1 of 3 for each component Upper Body: Push Ups, Pull Ups, or Dips; Core: Planks, Crunches, or Dead Lifts; Endurance: Mile and a half run, 10k run, or 30 mile bike ride. Or something like that. I can prove my fitness any day they want by my Watts/Kg and HR variability. So maybe we should just have an "eye test" or a "submit your own data for consideration". I show them the 5,000 miles I rode this year and they just check "complete".

  17. The left already did this when they lost and spent the next four years denigrating the election process attributing collusion, Russian interference, Russian hacking, etc as causal factors to their candidate losing. We have swapped positions with the right now expressing doubts to the legitimacy of the system the left spent tearing down. Media consistency would go a long way towards repairing faith in the system but their blatant left leaning bias isn't going to let that happen.

  19. I'll add my .02 for USAA homeowners... I was renting a FL home for a bit, and when I came back between renters I found my 15 year old roof had damage to it...mostly from being baked brittle in the FL sun for 15 years and going through some hurricanes. Called a few roofers out, and they him hawed about it, told me I needed to buy a new roof...until they heard I had USAA. They said USAA doesn't really put up a fight, whereas other insurance companies would require lots of documentation near the time of a recent hurricane along with justification...just too much work. USAA was no problem, sent them the quote...they tied it to the last major storm 6 months prior, and a few weeks later I had a new 30 year roof. That's luckily my only experience making a homeowners claim...so I'm not sure if it's that way with others, but the roofers made it seem like they liked working for USAA.

  23. I suggest going back through this thread from the beginning. We've been laughing at people based off how they look and act for years. That's the most maddening part of the progressive push. It's been okay from the start to have a private laugh at people wearing the craziest shit imaginable in a Walmart shopping aisle, but now it's taboo to chuckle at a dude who literally looks like a clown while simultaneously piggybacking on a movement with questionable motives and throwing in a nod to people who feel mutilating sexual organs should be celebrated. That's not being mean, that's looking at a picture and honestly thinking "What the fu%k?", which also happens to be the title of this thread. This is a private forum where a bunch of bros shoot the shit. No one here would go try to make the pictured dude's life hell, and you know it. So thanks for trying to chastise us like we're children for laughing at the wrong thing, but I'm going to just keep on finding humor wherever it presents itself and tell you to fu%k off instead. Edit: Why can't I say "fu%k"?

  24. I met somebody who looked like that at a party once. Turns out that person was an accomplished economist who redesigned the banking system of Monaco to accommodate crypto-currency. 8/10 would hang out with again, but I’m not interesting enough to get the invite. Millionaire many times over. Their partner also looked like that... and was a total mess. Is there more context here? Is BO.net a place we go now to make fun of people for how they look and the t-shirts they wear? That’s some high-school lunch room bullsh1t. I think most here would be happy to engage in a discussion of “black trans lives matter” (and most would likely agree with what I’m assuming you think about it). I’d also be disappointed if this has become an acceptable place to just be plain mean to somebody in a random photo.

  25. I'm jealous of people who can do this. I suck at running and spend about three months following a Garmin 5K plan to get ready for the run every year.

  26. Amazing how I can show up for a PT test (mid forties) and pass the run no problem while some airmen 4 months out of tech school and 20 years old fails. Seems to be a trend now as well with the new generation

  29. Yea...unless SOS changed DRASTICALLY since I attended...there was absolutely no war fighting value in the curriculum there. Sure, we played the worlds shittiest video game for a couple classes...but at no time do I recall any art, science, or war talk. I guess Project X was still fun to do for a THIRD time. And drinking with classmates was good bonding. But overall...what a waste of time.

  31. USAA isn't that bad, they're just not as good as they used to be... Two weeks ago I was sideswiped by a semi going through an intersection onto Kelly Field. I wasn't hurt, but my Toyota was banged up pretty bad (was eventually totaled). I filed a claim online when I got home and a USAA rep called me soon after. Eventually I ended up working directly with Progressive (the truck driver's insurance) to handle the claim, but USAA had my back if I needed help. By the way, Progressive was very good about handling my claim as well. Once I sent them the dash cam footage of the incident, they got to work getting my car appraised and getting me a rental car. I was lucky in that I quickly found a replacement (a 2013 VW Jetta SportWagen TDI) in Austin and picked it up last Sunday. The Progressive rep also instructed me to scan my signed title in and email it to her so she could start working the reimbursement instead of waiting for it to arrive via FedEx in a day or two. On a downside, I had driven to Austin on Friday to look at the Jetta and on my way back stopped at USAA to get a certified check for the purchase, only to find their bank lobby still closed due to COVID despite restrictions being eased up and many other banks being open. I ended up having to do a wire transfer, which only happens on business days which could have delayed my getting my new-to-me car had not the seller been willing to work out a means to allow me to get it last weekend. Overall, USAA isn't the company they once were, and I am not happy with their selling of their investment program to Charles Schwab (which I am ready to move away from); but living in SA they are still the most convenient insurance/bank around. I have yet to find anyone significantly better...
