  1. Pyro and I were in the same IFF class. We've been buds since then. I got to spend some time with him back in April, he knew this day wasn't far off. He was a hell of a dude, I know Sara and the kids are hurting right now; but boy they had a pretty good last year all things considered. I'm so glad they took the time these last few years to make some family memories. Those will pay off for the rest of the kids life. RIP Pyro, you are missed broseph!

  2. Pyro was a class A dude who made the world a better place. Great attitude right up to the end. What many people don’t know is that he was given the 95% diagnosis of a few months to live almost 5 years ago. Fought like hell. I’ll fondly remember all the jack and cokes at the bar with him. Godspeed Pyro. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  4. Fellas, it's a complete buyers market right now. Due to every swinging dick Major and their mother punching out, Big Blue is getting desperate to keep dudes in. I came from the C-130J community, and I've heard from bros that Sq/CCs are telling dudes to put down their wildest dreams on their ADP or whatever the fuck it's called now and they will fight to make it happen. The chips are in your stack; time to bet big and make them fold. You're a heavy driver and want to fly bombers? Ask. If they say no, give them both fingers as you walk out the door and walk straight into a ANG/AFRC unit of your choice and apply. Don't want to fly after AD? You're in luck, because every major is hiring anyone with a pulse right now. You've never had more power. Use it wisely.

  6. Ah, there it is. I feel like we just got to the “that’s it!” point in a naming. Deadbolts and magnetic signs.

  8. Did not know him personally but we had quite a few good PM convo's. I noticed a few posts here and there about being out on medical but he never brought it up. Terrible! Nickel on the grass!

  9. I doubt this has changed, but last year they wanted one application to the ORANG. The board is a room split 1/2 and 1/2 guys from each unit.

  13. 47 years ago today. B-52 Linebacker II raid on Hanoi. Good stuff. If anybody is interested (especially bomber guys), I highly recommend the book "The 11 Days of Christmas" about the LB2 operation.

  14. I am not a pilot and non-military. I read your forum to learn about a way of life relatively alien to me. First and foremostly, THANK YOU for your service. The sacrifices you make over-whelm me with gratitude. I am an accomplished professional but I am humbled by what you do and the professionalism with which you do it. Secondly, Toro you make me giggle (i.e. The wild turkey). If you are ever in San Antonio, let me buy you one of those.

  15. The simple fact is too many of our doctrinal lessons have been lost on an entire generation who is now at the reigns of leadership. Brigade Commanders grew up in the era of TOC Porn, unending lines of support, bus schedule designed mobility, and conops instead of 5 para orders. Now those same captains/Majors are wearing Eagles or Stars calling out their sister services for “not supporting us” because the reality is in a non GWOT war, you won’t always get whatever you want and if you aren’t the main effort that’s exactly what is supposed to happen. In fairness though the don’t understand Army stuff like the fact that surge is a temporary situation that requires repayment on the back end. Hence dumb stuff like blanket extensions to duty day, priority target lists and NAIs that don’t function as they should, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Totally agree there are many scenarios where datalink, etc. is a min force requirement. I’m with you, but I would still like young guys to show up with more general air sense, the ability to know where other things are by comm/time and bull/map correlation (e.g. decent geospatial awareness of the AO without having the answer on a screen), and better multi-tasking ability (especially with degraded/denied blue capes). I bet the IFF/UPT syllabus could change to leverage what tools they have to grow those types of skills. For example, I’ll probably never do a lowat ingress to 10/20 pop again, but maybe, given the tools they have available, that’s the best way for IFF to put the pressure on a guy and make him Mx SA on 3 other aircraft while executing threat reactions, making radio calls and maneuvering in 3D to not hit the ground and accurately fly the attack. The tactic is not exportable to an F-35, but the holistic lessons of geospatial awareness and multi-tasking under stress is. Now that shit is funny!

  21. Private insurance nearly broke me, it was equivalent to BC/BS, when I got seriously ill as an ART. Get the TRICARE for life, worry less. Oh yeah, you should also have $1M on your cranium in life insurance, unless you can self insure that. And only use term.

  26. It rips me apart to post this, Matmacwc flew west peacefully Christmas morning after a long fight with cancer. He bravely fought it to the end. He was truly a good man and a great fighter pilot. If your inclined to pray please pass a few on to his family. Nickle on the grass my friend. 🍺
