Thanks for all the replies. This is good stuff. We all love the new jacket. It is comfy, it keeps you dry and warm...overall; it is the best jacket the AF has given me.

Who all is wearing the green Massif-CWAS jackets? My squadron just got them, and our chiefs are trying to convince our leadership that we need to sew rank on the shoulders like the old flight jacket and the bag. I’m getting data points to present to the Bobs that we would be the only unit in the Air Force with rank sewn on the shoulders of this sweet jacket.if y’all could let me know what unit you’re with, that’d be great too. Also; does anyone have a Memo giving guidance on the patches and rank?

I did mine at the FSDO too (about 5 years ago and yep, super simple). Apparently they are now turning walk-in people away unless you have an appt...good stuff.

I have a buddy in the DFW area who is trying to get his mil equivalency paperwork processed and the FSDO won't return his calls to make an appointment...does anyone know of a DPE or someone that can take care of that? We had a guy at Laughlin that did it for a small fee, but I don't have his info anymore. Any ideas? Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with touch screen compatible flight gloves? I'm looking to buy some for our sq and want some feedback from anyone who have used them. This is mainly for our loadmasters who aren't allowed to cut the fingertips off of their gloves.

In a perfect world that'll happen. Not necessarily the case anymore. I don't know about AFRC, but in the guard nothing is for sure until it has already happened.

I believe the same 'BAH waiver' still applies in your case. From what I've heard from the one guy I know that got it...you have to prove to finance that you are going to UPT unaccompanied and will be staying in the AF dorms. You should then be able to collect BAH at your home, but will be forced to live in unaccompanied housing on base (the dorms) Good luck!

A guy in my class is a reserve guy who's wife lives back at their home of record. He started off UPT living in the dorms and receiving BAH for back home. He called it a 'BAH waiver' (which I believe your unit finance guru should help you out with). At Laughlin you can live in the dorms as a married person if you came here unaccompanied...until the dorms fill up and you get forced out and then have to live in privatized housing and start paying them all your BAH...which is what happened to him. It's a crap shoot, but has worked out well for some and less than stellar for orhers. At least this guy got a few months BAH before he lost it.

They were strict when I went through (nov 2012) LOTS of people complained about not having push ups counted. Do yourself a favor...do lots of push-ups before you get there; don't cheat while you do them. Leave nothing to chance...

I got 2 days for travel to XL (I live in TX). If you are going to be a stud; live on base. The convenience is worth it. Your biggest concern should be to get a house secured from Hunt. Call them (if you haven't already) and get the ball rolling so you can start moving in the day you arrive. Your unit might be able to give you extra days to 'house hunt' when you get here. You have to report 10 weekdays prior to your class start date. In-processing took me a few hours a day for a week to get finished...and we still have to wear blues on Monday. Plan on being busy that first week you get here, but it is do-able...talk to Hunt and get your house secured. I had a 10 day wait to get my house, so I had to get a storage unit so I could unload the truck in to (did a DITY).

You can get in the wait list for a house 60 days out. You just need a copy of your orders or a RIP to get on the list. They 'should' call you about 30 days out with a housing offer. You may get to pick from a couple of choices...or they may tell you to take it or leave it.

The only things you will be doing on a computer is: 1. Writing emails to classmates using your newly issued CAC/outlook account that you get the day you arrive. (this is not your .mil address) 2. Writing papers using ms word. (papers include memos, sometimes lots of memos depending on your leadership position) 3. Making spreadsheets (AMS staff love having us track statistics) 4. PowerPoint 5. Limited Internet access for gathering info for your papers and power points. Some people had to make slide shows for the banquet. Also, before you go to Walmart or wherever, go to the airman's attic. Our class had a metric ton of misc stuff (bins, hangars, cleaning supplies, staplers,etc) left over and apparently that's where it all goes.

We were issued camelbacks that had a strip of Velcro for a name tape. I wish I would have brought a name tape for that. I also brought a laptop. I wrote and printed one paper with it during week one. I didn't use it after that. They fixed my printer issues on day three-ish. You will know right away whether the AMS printer is going to work. If you are driving, bring your printer and computer. if you aren't, get there and see if the AMS printer/computer is going to work. If they don't, go to Walmart with your roommate and buy a 18 dollar printer...bring your own cable from home as they cost more than the cheap printer.
