  1. I believe they are much more comfortable than a bag, and come with several advantages. When it is hot, you can take the top off. (you don't have to do the unzip and tie your sleeves around the waist thing). When you have to take a deuce, it is much easier (should be self explanatory). I have always found the desert flight suits uncomfortable, though I don't know why they would be any different than the green ones. Two piece is the way to go if you can get them. Fontus

  4. Alright brother, I was going to wait until the 'Cuse vs Huskies game was over, but that ain't happening. You've heard from a B-1 cat and two Talon cats, obviously we (the Talon bubbas) are partial to the 130. You have been given advice on the location and mission of both aircracft, so its up to you. Since you still seem up in the air I will leave you with this. You know how you performed in nav school. If you liked navigating an airplane, if you flew low level (I assume you do low-level in Nav school, I'm a pilot) and you liked it and you were good at it, then pick the C-130. If any of the above didn't apply, pick the E-8. The bottom line is you can't do any damage at 30,000 feet or whatever altitude the JSTARS flies at. P.S. - I realize both missions are important, and require skilled crewmembers at every crew position. I am not trying to start some stupid internet flame war. The bottom line is low level is dangerous if you suck. Fontus
  5. For God's sake man take the slick... Lets look at the mission: C-130 vs JSTARS - Actually do something as a Nav or simply learn how to fly a holding pattern... Lets look at the location: Colorado Springs vs Macon - With the possible exception of the AAA baseball team (the Macon Whoopee), CSprings would be a lot more fun. For God's sake man take the slick!   6. When you file your taxes, you pay tax on your taxable income. During the year, Uncle Sugar takes out his cut each month. Your W-2 shows that he took out his cut for December (i.e. it shows that you were taxed in Decemeber), but that month was not "taxable income" (i.e. your W-2 doesn't count December's salary). Therefore when you file your taxes, your W-2 will show that you paid taxes during the month of December when you didn't need to and you will recieve that amount as a refund when you file your taxes.   7. In UPT the only PIC time that you can log is your Solo T-6 time and your Team T-1 time (if they still do that) - that is the only time that you signed for the airplane. The rest of the time you are with an instructor and it woud be logged probably as dual time. Basically it counts towards your total time, but not your Pilot In Command time. To log SIC time you must be in an aircraft that requires two pilots to be at the controls (i.e. T-1, C-130). Again to log PIC time you need to sign for the airplane (i.e be the "A" code) Hope this helps Fontus
  8. You shouldn't need it as the process is transparent to you. You can check your "tax exempt" leave balance on your LES (it is in the comment section, where you find out such important information as the fact that the air force is looking for military training instructors). If you don't have anything listed there then you don't have any tax exempt leave. Fontus
  9. Here is how it works... Each month you acrue 2.5 days of paid leave (paid being the operative word here). When you deploy to a combat tax exclusion zone, your basic pay and entitlements are tax free, therefore you have 2.5 days of "tax-free" leave. If you take that leave in a month that you haven't recieved a combat tax exclusion, then the pay that you recieve for that day of leave is tax free and you will recieve some money back in your pay check. There are some caveats. 1) "tax-free" leave is the first leave that you use, so if you take leave in the same month that you deployed, you will not recieve any extra cash. 2) You can't sign a reenlistment bonus on your "tax-free" leave day and get that bonus tax free (remember you are on leave) 3) As always, O's get tax free up to the highest enlisted pay grade, and not the entire basic pay Hope that helps Fontus

  12. Actually, aircrew support special forces. Of course if you are flying overhead, eject, parachute into the hit, take out your M-9, cap a couple of haji's, capture the HVT, then maybe they would be supporting you. At this point in the war, everyone in the USAF is there to support the army dudes on the ground (from the on call CAS A-10, to the C-130 LM, to guy in the gym who hands out the towels so that the A-10 dude can work out and then go kill haji's). It's the army / marine (and for that matter AF trans guy running convoy duty) on the ground that is the tip of the spear. Fontus
