I heard she went AWOL, but because she never went through Fairchild, she had no clue how to survive outside the fence. She realized she couldn't just waltz back in to Manas after 4 days without getting with an Article 15 or worse, so she dyed her hair, beat herself with another ugly stick, made up a pitiful story about a paper bomb and knocked on the door of the next house she came across. And now a whole base at a relatively peaceful location, one where you could actually get out and go experience the local culture instead of waiting in line to get an hour on an x-box, is on lockdown because of her tomfooleries and shenanigans, and the local gov't and police force think we're all wierdos. Of course I casually asked "do you know what happened to that major that disappeared?" Incredulously, this fella actually knew her and was deployed with her. This is HIS story (and I can neither confirm nor deny these details): Female major went out on the town shopping with approx. 3-4 other companions. All were wearing civies, and she was wearing large amounts of flashy jewelry to include large necklace, ring, bracelet, etc., and a large purse. During the shopping trip, she got separated from the rest of the group. At this time she was nabbed by a group of people and kidnapped. Apaprently (fella quoted ongoing OSI investigation) the kidnappers were in cahoots with local organized crime and keyed in on her apparent wealth (not knowing she was AF) and upon realizing they had inadvertently kidnapped an AF Officer, they realized how serious this now was. At that time they tried to alter her identity with a haircut and a hair dying. As they realized that this would bring about a large beat-down by the government, they released her. She is a marathon runner and claims that her marathon training discipline helped her get through this ordeal. One last detail - now, no one is allowed off-base EVER. Punish the masses! Enjoy! [ 19. Agreed, knee-jerk reaction barring everybody from off-base SUCKS. One of the nicer points of the man's-ass was that you could go experience the culture in a relatively safe enviromnent, and they actually had women there (unlike the 'deid where they run around in ninja suits), some scenery to see and whatnot. I know it is extremely hard to "blend in" at that location, but you can sure as hell do a lot not to attract additional attention to yourself! As for the running angle, we aren't the ones making the big deal out of it, it is her and all the press reporting on her that constantly remarks on it. Who really gives a shit? And what does it have to do with the price of tea in China? Now, if she has some sort of super-special SERE skills I could see mentioning it, but her running skills didn't do her much good! Cheers! If you look at an org chart, PA falls directly under the wing commander, and everything the PA does needs CC approval. Typically when things get "covered up" it's because the CC (aka pilot) doesn't want his career tarnished. For this case though, it's a privacy act issue.
