Hey All,

Heading out to RIQ next week...Had a couple questions.

What are the hours during the week to expect?

Are there any good study materials to look at before the class?

What week do you start simulator work?

Any other information would be great!! Thanks!

You'll go to Pueblo first for flight screening unless you already have a ppl and waiver or if you're too big to fly the DA-20, you'll go to a local FBO (only has happened once, to my knowledge).

Hours are pretty relaxed; when I was a flt/cc I treated it as a big boy program. My students who were doing well on EPQs and sims were pretty much free to come and go as they pleased, so long as they made all scheduled events. Students who got behind were "encouraged" to stay in the flight room for extra instruction. Make sure you're able to pass the pt test: you're required to test 42 days after arriving (new accessions only) and policy, last I heard, was that you would not proceed to RFC with a failing FA.

I would concentrate on knowing your ops limits/bold face after you're done at Pueblo. It won't do you any good to study that material while trying to fly the DA-20. Learning the visual references and power settings for contact flight (11-248) will be icing on the cake.

Simulators start after three weeks of academics.

The best piece of advice I can offer you is to be a good team player. Your flt/cc ranking, despite not carrying much weight, can be the difference between getting a desirable or less than desirable assignment.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Does anyone have a link to the RPA pilot blog that documents the journey through RIQ?

Knew I had those bookmarked some place. Looks like the author of the second one has changed to "invite only" though...

Anyone know where to get the latest and greatest bold face/ops limits and any other memory items required for RIQ? I'm not active duty and not stationed at Randolph so if there's a site to download them from or if you can send them directly to me I'd appreciate it.

Don’t worry about it til you get there

Rather have the memorization done before getting there like I did for IFT.

Again, no need. There’s no formal release and as long as you’re not the dumbest motherfvcker in your class (which I’m guessing you’re not since you have the SA to ask the question) you won’t be the dipshit keeping everybody else in Blues.

How recent is your info? I heard formal release is alive and well. Not sure who's correct since it's coming from the casual guys. I'm done with IFT so I figured it wouldn't hurt to passively read it so that by the time I get there it sticks.

Not at all recent, but the line IPs are GS-12s and can’t work more than 40 hours a week and I highly doubt your Flt/CC is going to stick around for a 12 hour day
