And Vertigo still won't adopt a family from anywhere and allow them to share his home and his noble view of sharing with no borders. I hear there is a family from Liberia that needs someplace to stay until they clear quarantine.

US Southern Command is starting to get how serious a risk an unsecured border / illegal immigration is.

Kelly: Southcom Keeps Watch on Ebola Situation

By Jim Garamone

DoD News, Defense Media Activity

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8, 2014 – The potential spread of Ebola into Central and Southern America is a real possibility, the commander of U.S. Southern Command told an audience at the National Defense University here yesterday.

“By the end of the year, there’s supposed to be 1.4 million people infected with Ebola and 62 percent of them dying, according to the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention],” Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly said. “That’s horrific. And there is no way we can keep Ebola [contained] in West Africa.”

If it comes to the Western Hemisphere, many countries have little ability to deal with an outbreak of the disease, the general said.

“So, much like West Africa, it will rage for a period of time,” Kelly said.

This is a particularly possible scenario if the disease gets to Haiti or Central America, he said. If the disease gets to countries like Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador, it will cause a panic and people will flee the region, the general said.

“If it breaks out, it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States,” Kelly said. “They will run away from Ebola, or if they suspect they are infected, they will try to get to the United States for treatment.”

Also, transnational criminal networks smuggle people and those people can be carrying Ebola, the general said. Kelly spoke of visiting the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua with U.S. embassy personnel. At that time, a group of men “were waiting in line to pass into Nicaragua and then on their way north,” he recalled.

“The embassy person walked over and asked who they were and they told him they were from Liberia and they had been on the road about a week,” Kelly continued. “They met up with the network in Trinidad and now they were on their way to the United States -- illegally, of course.”

Those men, he said, “could have made it to New York City and still be within the incubation period for Ebola.”

Kelly said his command is in close contact with U.S. Africa Command to see what works and what does not as it prepares for a possible outbreak in the area of operations.

Most of the cartel scouts on the mountains here in AZ are packing AKs or ARs, along with their surveillance gear. Primarily for use against other cartel persons, but if product is involved, for use against LE as well. Already have had a few BP agents killed recently, one Campo-based agent (outside San Diego) executed in an ambush by the people he was tracking, one run over and killed near Yuma AZ by a vehicle he was attempting to spike and stop, and one killed in a gunbattle near Rio Rico, AZ, the case which uncovered the whole Fast and Furious scandal.

People carrying guns and drugs across the border then returning aren't immigrants, they're smugglers.

The article and MD's comments weren't saying that. Nor my intention to say the average illegal alien crossing has guns, drugs or nefarious intentions BUT there is a sizable percentage that do (gang members, cartel operatives, aliens from hostile nations, etc.).

Just secure the border. Just that. If you did that THEN a rational, reasoned and sensible conversation could be had about what should happen to illegal aliens in the US who have lived and worked here with ties to the US. But the short sighted and corrupt economic and left leaning political interests won't turn off the tap so the boat continues to take on water.

The border can be secured and policed reasonably. I as a tax payer would rather spend billions on keeping out random dudes with shotguns, AK-47s, MS-13 tattoos and multiple felony convictions than on useless shit like a GD stupid STOVL fighter that will likely never see combat against another fighter but may be used to bomb some jihadi in turdshitstan for probably 300K per mission.

Rage subsiding....

Western democracy doesn't stand a chance when its elites are this clueless, apathetic, dumb, disconnected and/or naive.   Cut to 4:33 and 5:33 to see why our societies are spinning out of control and nothing is done to control crime, illegal immigration, etc... two shinning examples of the slow motion self destructive lunatics that thanks to left wing media, academia, corrupt government officials and short sighted cheap labor seeking corporations that are enabled to drag down Western Civilization.

It has been said empires are not murdered they commit suicide, I think we are witnessing that now.

Random act of good journalism on the actual opinions of Americans living in the border as to the need for a border wall.

Long article but worth reading, not just a biased view one way or the other on why a physical barrier system (wall, fences or hybrid) is good/bad/necessary/unnecessary.

Just the other night, responded to a Yuma-based agent who was making an apprehension of a group of 3, when the group decided to jump him instead of run, which is becoming more and more common unfortunately. One of the illegals managed to gain his baton and started hitting him with it, before said illegal was shot dead by him. Hostile resistance by illegals with active wants/warrants or other criminal crimes on their record (including capital crimes) is on the serious uptick, as there are many more of those coming into the US than the standard on-each looking for work. Not knowing who anyone is, all have to be treated as potentially hostile now, until secured and can be IDd.

That made the news:

http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2016/06/10/sources-border-patrol-agent-attacked-illegal-alien-alien-shot-dead/

Thank God the agent is safe, the invader-criminal is dead and the press didn't bury the story.

I am not sure if militarization is the exact word for what must be done on the border but massive fortification and patrol along with vigorous internal enforcement, legal sanctions and prosecution for any official or government agency or body that does not immediately report the presence of an illegal alien when it becomes known and severe financial punishment for any private citizen who employs illegal aliens is the only thing stem the tide.

Who knows how many times this has happened and hasn't made the news or was purposely suppressed?

This is a national security threat, a criminal threat, an economic threat and an assault on our sovereignty

Like when the Mexican military had crossed into the US along with drug vehicles, were spotted by a BP agent who drove towards them to see what was going on, only to get his patrol truck shot up by the Mexican Army, with him escaping and running away. That vehicle being salvaged by the agency, towed away back to Tucson, markings painted over and scrapped in a junkyard.

Yup

Regular Mexican Army at individual unit levels are probably assisting smugglers, at their GO & SES level, the corruption / collusion is more subtle the pussies at DoS would piss their panties if anyone actually called them on it but if we get a President Donald J. Trump, maybe...

New year, same problem...

http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2016/12/31/breaking-cartel-gunmen-fire-border-patrol-agent-arizona/

Build the walls, fences, security systems, expand CBP/ICE, deploy the Guard (Army/Air) permanently to secure the large open areas not physically blocked.

If it takes a lot of money, so be it, if it keeps a POS like this guy out:

Wasn't sure to put this here or the WTF thread...

Unfortunately I wasn't too schocked...it just further shows the decline of our culture/values, especially in places like San Fran and Cali.  I've seen more outrage from the left for killing a gorilla in a zoo or lion in Africa...

I was initially surprised as well. After reading some details the waters are a bit muddy on this one. Apparently Steinle’s death was the result of a ricochet. Sounds like prosecutors were overzealous and went after murder charges in addition to involuntary manslaughter. I can understand not convicting on the murder charges (which would still have been plenty controversial), but not sure why an involuntary manslaughter charge wouldn’t have stuck easily. Maybe someone with some legal expertise can chime in.

Because the prosecution would have had to prove "criminal negligence", and "brandishing a weapon", which is in a rude, angry or threatening manner.

Well, there you go. So, justice served then? While stricter immigration laws/enforcement might well have prevented the incident, that wasn’t the purview of the case. Seems there was insufficient evidence to convict. Perhaps the verdict will spur some more informed discussion on our immigration policy. While I generally support a more liberal policy, I’m willing to say that this individual probably shouldn’t have been roaming around the streets of San Francisco freely. Maybe dems would be willing do discuss some stricter deportation enforcement in exchange for say republican support for a better migrant work policy that allows hardworking, law abiding people to be in the country legally and long term.  The sad reality though is that the verdict will push people on both sides further into their respective corners.

What a sad joke of a justice system.  This verdict is indefensible.

I found this to be a good discussion of the trial and why the verdict was what it was. Found it compelling to think both A) Zarate definitely fired the weapon, yet also B) there is reasonable doubt that he committed first degree murder.

And before “RIP my mentions,” I don’t think he should have been in this country and I’m not that big a fan of the idea of sanctuary cities. His immigration status isn’t really germane to the sentencing in this case re: manslaughter (what he should have been convicted of IMHO), and first degree murder.
