flyinghigh Posted April 20, 2014 Share Posted April 20, 2014 Hello everyone, I recently went to Wright Patt and when I was up there they didn't know what was on my cornea. They wanted to make sure it wasn't something that would get bigger. They told me to go to a specialist, which I did the Monday after getting back home. The specialist said that it is just a scar on my eye. So I faxed the paperwork up there saying that it's just a scar on my eye and I think nothing more of it because the specialist was 100% positive it was just a scar. Then I get called in by my commander and I'm told that I'm still DQed and now I'm reclassified into a different job. When I was up there the optometrist said that it wouldn't be a big deal and at a maximum I'd have to get it rechecked in 3 months, but now they're telling me I'll have to get it rechecked in 6 months to be qualified and I don't have my pilot slot, even though I went to a specialist and they said there's nothing wrong with my eye. I'm trying to figure out what else I can do and if it's even possible to get my pilot slot back (I'm an ROTC cadet and I'm graduating May 17). I've been looking everywhere for information and all I've been told is that I'll be able to apply on active duty for a pilot slot, but I shouldn't have to even do that because my eye is fine. I was also told that a waiver process should have been started for me or something and that definitely didn't happen. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
hispeed7721 Posted April 20, 2014 Share Posted April 20, 2014 I don't have anything to offer for your specific medical dilemma, however...regardless of how this turns out take it as a lesson. There is no one who cares about your career progression or goals except for YOU. If someone tells you a waiver is started, stay on it (sts) and keep track of it. If someone tells you paperwork is being routed, keep track of it and make sure it's being vetted to the right people. You get the idea. Good luck with this, hopefully it turns out in your favor! deaddebate Posted April 21, 2014 Share Posted April 21, 2014 Have you previously had any eye or vision surgery (PRK/LASIK/etc.)? Do you have any history of eye injury? Have you seen the documentation from the Specialist and/or MFS and were you diagnosed with other conditions such as conjunctivitis, scleritis, corneal opacity/cataract? The Optometry folks may not have started the waiver for you until they had the results of your Ophthalmology consult. Get copies of the documentation if you don't already. The waiver guide may not be much help as it only lists conditions that are waiverable. You may have a condition that isn't waiverable, but may be treatable or correctable to the point that you don't need a waiver. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The specialist I went and saw told me that it was just a scar (.5mm) that was caused most likely by contact wear when I was younger. I sent the documents I received saying that it was just a scar up to wright patt and I called to confirm that they received it. I tried calling to talk to the optometrist, but apparently she is gone for the whole week. They said that if it was just a scar that it shouldn't be an issue. Apparently you don't even need a waiver for a scar on your eye. It doesn't affect my vision at all either. I passed every test up there with no problems at all. It seems like you should have been cleared, but the optometry office just hasn't taken action yet. Recommend you continue to call / contact that about office weekly until you get some resolution.
