Study: Nuclear Force Feeling 'Burnout' from Work

His and the 341st OG/CCs future assignment as the 91st MW/CC are on hold. The fact remains that it has been over a month since the story broke and nobody has been held accountable for the scandal. How fast would they have been fired in the SAC days?

No one has been fired here yet. A Wg/CC who failed an NSI and now this, plus a OG/CC who created said climate causing the cheating. I would like to know where the accountability is.

If we replaced all Wg/CCs with contractors, then it would be easy for us to fire them.

So this just dropped -

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/air-force-nuke-crew-failings-worse-reported-22899983

For example, commanders at Minot did not ensure that monthly written tests were supervised. The analysis also said Minot senior leaders failed to foster a "culture of accountability...Airmen responsible for missile operations at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., would have failed their portion of a major inspection in March 2013 but managed a "marginal" rating because their poor marks were blended with the better performance of support staff — like cooks and facilities managers — and they got a boost from the base's highly rated training program

But.. you know, it's all those lazy crew members. I'm sure it's those lazy, rotten crews that mashed all these results together to get a pass.

More from PBS.

Airmen responsible for missile operations at Minot Air Force Base would have failed their portion of a major inspection in March 2013 but managed a “marginal” rating because their poor marks were blended with the better performance of support staff – like cooks and facilities managers – and they got a boost from the base’s highly rated training program. The “marginal” rating, the equivalent of a “D” in school, was reported previously. Now, details of the low performance by the launch officers, or missileers, entrusted with the keys to missiles have been revealed.

“Missileer technical proficiency substandard,” one Air Force briefing slide says. “Remainder (of missile operations team) raised grade to marginal.”

Lt Col Tater Tots gets the last laugh.

Hmmm..crews are scoring poor enough to fail, but the base has a "highly rated training program". Yeah, I'll buy that. Anyone have a bridge for sale?

Good Lord! I don't care how "good" the paperwork looks; if the training isn't paying off in the field it is crap! The crews, as in multiple, is an indictment of the training program. Tail is wagging the dog here.

Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked.

The most senior person touched directly by the cheating scandal was the commander of Malmstrom’s 341st Missile Wing, Col. Robert Stanley. He was permitted to resign, according to a defense official. The official described the Air Force actions on condition of anonymity before they were announced.

Nine key commanders below Stanley were fired, including the commanders of the 341st Wing’s three missile squadrons, each of which is responsible for 50 Minuteman three nuclear missiles.

Also sacked were the commander and deputy commander of the 341st Operations Group, which oversees all three missile squadrons as well as a helicopter unit and a support squadron responsible for administering monthly proficiency tests to Malmstrom’s launch crews and evaluating their performance.

Members of all three missile squadrons were implicated in the cheating, either by providing or receiving test answers or knowing about the cheating and not reporting it.

No generals are being punished......(shocking...)

Ding dong the witch is dead!

Edit: It's a bloodbath over here. Four Sq/CCs, two DOs, Chief of OGV, plus the OG/CC and CD are going to be off the base within the next 48 hours. Around 85 missileers will face NJP with 5 or so going to court martial. Apparently there were missile flight commanders that had emails direct from the OG/CC saying that they would do whatever was required to score 100% on their testing.

A lot of changes are going to be driven by this. Some of the top ones on Alston's list are the establishment of an aircrew style eval process (17-mo cycle, MQF closed book, and open book testing), and the establishment of a Helo OG. This would put the helo squadrons under an aviation leadership instead of the missile OGs. Each of the three helo squadrons would be OPCON and ADCON to this OG at FE Warren and Minot/Malmstrom would be GSUs.

Hopefully this drives some change in the missile wings for the better.

This coupled with the video that Liquid posted in the other thread, specifically about the idea of making your subordinates feel safe, seems to be a move in the right direction?

Is there any review taking place at the other bases? Especially in light of the.. creative tools used to pass inspections?

Also, in light of this

Investigators determined that the cheating, which officials originally said happened in August or September last year, began as early as November 2011 and continued until November 2013,

Will there be any repercussions to those "leaders" who came before the current fall-guys?

Those things happen, then we'll know the AF is serious. Otherwise.. same old song and dance.
