Classic Thread - Why go Air Force?

Dude this is my real account. I was trying to get a serious answer but all these clowns are screwing up my thread. I'm going for Navy OCS right now, but I was just wondering with the competition why the AF seems more competitive.

Does anyone have a serious answers? Do most people like the whole carrier idea or not? For you guys, were the larger selection of planes and carrier-free lifestyle big factors in choosing the AF?

Thanks AFNAV for giving me a serious answer.

How bout screw off

I'll give you some serious advise even though I was just a low life, enlisted, sweaty. Spent 5 1/2 years in the Navy (2 cruises on a carrier and all the associated work ups for said cruises). Got out and was in the Air Guard 15 days after separating from the Navy.. spent about nine years there then went AF Reserve for 8 1/2 years. The Navy sucks, that is all. I had people try to tell me that before I went in but I was a know it all (not implying that you are) and didn't listen. Most miserable 5.5 years of my life. I did find a few people who had been in the Navy and said they loved it. I listened to them (you know, pick and choose who you listen to...just looking for the answer that I wanted to hear at the time). Hindsight being what it is...they were losers and it probably was the best thing that ever happened to them.

Edit to add: I give everyone who asks my opinion on what branch to join this: During my 23 years I know of three people who went from the AF to another branch. All three of those were guys who got flying slots in the Army. I ran out of fingers and toes and friend's fingers and toes counting the number of people that I know in the AF who came from another branch. Several hundred.

Did a Southern Watch out of Al Jaber, Kuwait back in the mid 90s. Middle of the desert, summertime, the airfield still a bombed out mess for the most part following the first fracas there, exceptionally bad food, UXOs scattered about, and just a high general suck factor.

There were 6 or 8 Navy F-18s flying out of there with us for a couple weeks and then came the time the Naval Aviators were supposed to go back out to the boat. You would have thought somebody shot their dogs, ran off with their wives, and told them cold beer and strippers were outlawed back home. We are talking serious unhappiness and borderline depression. I think their boat, the Roosevelt, ended up putting into port with a mechanical problem so these guys get another week with us. And they were thrilled to be there which leads me to think the boat must really, really, really suck.
