We've put a few BUFF guys through already when they got hired for the B-1 reserve unit, and they all seemed to do fine.  I think they'll be OK in the beginning at the ops squadron.  Where the credibility thing will really come into question is this scheme for them to upgrade to instructor a year after graduating the FTU.  Most pilots don't upgrade to IP until about three years in an ops squadron, most WSOs at two.  AFGSC will have to re-write some portions of the 11-2B-1 for these guys to meet minimum hours/sorties/time to upgrade to AC, FLUG, and IP.

Yup, I think that's am ambitious plan.  And just about the time they get to be useful, Global Strike's going to say, "Tour complete, go requal in your previous platform".  Not sure what they have in mind for a timeline, but I think at least four years would be optimal.

It will be OK for the reservists (long timeline in their unit). Striker Vista guys are the shiny pennies though - when they get sent to command a B-1 squadron, will be interesting to see how much experience (credibility) they have.

We've been getting B-2/B-1 drivers with zero BUFF experience as commanders in the BUFF for a long time... The world hasn't ended yet, bitches/gripes/complaints aside.

Requal in your previous platform would make them more useful than "Now that you've seen a B-1/B-52/B-2, go to school and staff for four years".  Instructor requal will be a huge challenge if for these guys.

The good news here is that the Buff is now in combat.  It'll be a minute or two before most of those crewdogs are eligible for Striker Vista, but I think having both the non-LO bombers in the fight will eventually help smooth that transition.

Thanks for posting @saber4p.  I'm assuming that J-model gunship from 16-15 in bold was you?

Quick question - what's with the class size of 16-14 being significantly larger than the others?  Just curious.

Nah not me, just the first one that's ever dropped out of the school house, thought it was pretty noteable

They had a lot of people fall into their class. Two who had babies, one who was on medical hold and got cleared, one who had to have his security clearance checked, one who had family stuff, and one who had failed an elim check and got back in the program. They would have been only 16 people without those guys

If anyone's curious on this one, hit me up via PM.  185th SOS, AFSOC MC-12 Guard unit in Oklahoma City.  Believe this was our first nav school stud going through.  Good dudes, can put you in touch for recruiting if you're interested.

I knew they couldn't keep 'em retired forever!

But in all seriousness, it looks like they're cramming as many WSOs into the Strike Eagle pipeline as they can. We need them!

I sincerely hope OK ANG doesn't take anyone from the former active duty MC-12 squadrons, and that they re-build it.  Sure, there were some quality people in the program.  Some really good ones, in fact.  But the MC-12 culture was horrendous, and better to miss out on getting some good folks than to bring in any of the virus.

Good to see they are going to use CSO's on the crew.  The active duty should have done that.

FYI:  I spent a year in the MC-12.

We do have at least one pilot from there but he's a good dude.  Definitely cognizant that we're building an entirely separate and new unit culture.  Liberty is dead, rest assured.

Edit to add: I'm pretty sure, "Liberty is dead" is an old dead guy quote out there somewhere...

I'm transferring out there! Just waiting on NGB to give the green light.

I'm surprised Charlotte is still putting Navs through.

Good catch. Maybe it's an enlisted who's hoping to jump from backseat to front? That or it's kind of pointless, whether they get C-17s or J models...
