Agreed. JTACs are good at what they do but they're not super men. I can see it now...

"Oh, so you not only want me to insert by helo at night in the mountains, hump it in for several km, run the stack, give weapons clearances, dodge bullets, and return fire, now I have to strap on this HUD, control a ball/pod, push the fire button, and sit there and lase the weapon on target? YGBSM."

I can see in some situations where there would be a JTAC on the ground in a relatively calm infil and a UAV overhead loaded out with tons of weapons and you just have him do the target designating instead of having to talk on to coords over sh*tty satcom to some guy back in Vegas, but CAS isn't exactly a walk in the park and to lump in sensor work and weapons release/lasing from the air into the skill set of a dude who's already got a lot going on doesn't make sense to me.

Yea, what a terrible idea. It's already hard enough for us to do this right, how can anyone expect a guy on the ground facing those additional myraid of difficulties to do a better job? Just because the technological capability exists, doesn't mean it's a good idea in practice.

15k? You can't see shit from 15k.

FWIW, you can replace "the dude at 15k" very easily. You can replace him with a dude in a LGPOS at 25k looking inside or a pilot in a Hog at 5k looking out.

15K was a nominal number...please tell me you don't think an F-16 is incapable of flying a wheel at 5K? Even from 10-15K, there is merit having a dude there to look out side for a true "big to small" approach to find a target. And no, I won't argue about Viper CAS vs Hog CAS or disagree with you on that one...that's a losing battle.

It may be possible, I've just never seen a LGPOS show up in combat with an SCL that would allow it even if the pilot was willing to do so. Divot did it in the LGPOS and he was the AW/DO with more CAS training than 99% of any other LGPOS pilot on the planet prior to taking the 18th.

This is not about the A-10 vs whatever, I'm just saying it did not happen in my experience and I SERIOUSLY doubt that has changed.

Mother reports topless sunbather on Italian beach to police for 'troubling' sons

A mother of two boys has sparked a debate in Italy over topless sunbathing after she reported a woman to police because the way she applied suntan lotion was "troubling" her sons.

A mother of two teenage boys has sparked a debate in Italy over topless bathing after she reported a woman to police because the way she applied suntan lotion was 'troubling' her sons.

The 26-year-old woman, identified only as Luisa under Italian privacy laws, was questioned by officers after they were brought to the scene by the mother.

She had initially asked the woman, an assistant in a fashion store, to cover herself up as her ample breasts and the act of rubbing cream on her body had "troubled her sons aged 14 and 12."

The woman, who was sunbathing on a public beach at Anzio south of Rome, refused and so officers were called – much to the amusement of other holidaymakers who looked on as she remonstrated still topless.

The case has triggered a debate in Italy about topless bathing.

Yesterday, the Rome based lawyer, Gianluca Arrighi, said: "Something like this happening in 2010 is absurd. My client was approached and asked to cover up by the woman and she simply asked her what her problem was.

"From there the woman gathered up her children and went and complained to police bring the officers to the scene where Luisa was still on the beach sunbathing.

"The fact a file has been opened is compulsory following the complaint but I can't imagine any judge in 2010 convicting a woman for sunbathing topless.

"Let's be clear my client is tall, brunette and has an ample breast and is therefore going to naturally be sensuous when she applies cream to her chest.

"This may well have attracted the attention of the women's two sons but it should not lead to my client being convicted. She is amazed that she is being condemned for simply sunbathing topless.

"It was a public beach and she could see no harm in what she was doing."

Mr Arrighi said that it was not illegal to sunbathe topless on a public beach, unless there is a local bylaw.

A comment piece in La Repubblica newspaper said: "Summer is the season where everything happens but it is also the time of pathological mentalities ... where was she supposed to apply the cream on her clothes?"

Topless sunbathing has dropped out of fashion in recent years. In both France and Italy far fewer people abandon their bikini tops when on the beach.

Countess Barbara Ronchi della Rocca, the Italian etiquette expert, said: "You do see far fewer topless sunbathers these days than you used to but I think that's because the beach is no longer the place where you go to get a tan.

"Nowadays people arrive bronzed already having spent the winter in tanning salons and they spend their time at the beach bar semi clothed and socialising instead."

Yesterday a police spokesman in Anzio said: "A patrol was stopped by a mother of two sons who was angry at a topless sunbather and the way she was applying suntan cream.

"She told us that she had asked the woman to cover herself up because her young sons aged 12 and 14, had been admiring the sunbather and they had been troubled by what she was doing.

"The patrol went and took her details and she argued, still topless, that she could so no harm in what she was doing as it was a public beach. We have opened a file on committing an obscene act as we are committed to following the complaint. From what I heard she was very attractive."

Tila Tequila suffers cuts, but escapes juggalos attack

By Alan Duke, CNN

August 15, 2010 6:55 p.m. EDT

(CNN) -- Reality TV star Tila Tequila suffered facial cuts when she was pelted with rocks and bottles while performing at a music festival in Illinois early Saturday, according to a witness and a law enforcement official.

"She's pretty cut up," said a performer who saw the violence at the "Gathering of the Juggalos" in rural Hardin County, Illinois. The witness asked not to be identified so that he does not anger the juggalos.

Tequila, a Playboy model who also sings, posted a Twitter message Saturday, saying she would sue the festival, which is organized for fans of the hip-hop group Insane Clown Posse.

"Pretty soon, the owners who run the juggalos will be bankrupt," she tweeted.

The fans are mostly young people who sometimes wear clown make up and are referred to as juggalos and juggalettes.

Festival organizers did not immediately respond to CNN requests for a response.

The performer said a mob of hundreds chased Tequila from the stage and surrounded the trailer where she sought refuge. They rocked the trailer and smashed its windows, the witness said.

Tequila eventually escaped, but only after windows in her SUV were smashed, he said.

Hardin County Sheriff Tom Seiner, who offered a similar description of the events, said he has an open investigation. It would be "very hard" to identify the attackers unless he can locate video of the incident, the sheriff said.

Tequila offered her descriptions of the events in a statement to celebrity news website TMZ.

"I went onstage and immediately, before I even got on stage, dudes were throwing huge stone rocks in my face, beer bottles that slit my eye open, almost burnt my hair ... cuz they threw fire crackers on stage," she wrote.

The witness, who was standing in the rear of the stage, said the crowd of about 2,000 was immediately angry toward Tequila and she was unable to turn them around.

"She was taunting them," he said. "She didn't know how to handle them. She didn't understand the dynamic."

The rocks and bottles flew harder and faster when Tequila bared her breasts, he said.

"She took her top off and they got really violent," he said.

Tequila continued to perform even after her face started bleeding, he said. "She was holding a towel to her head, blood pouring down her face," he said.

"It was scary as hell!" Tequila wrote.

This was not the only violent incident at the festival early Saturday, Seiner said.

A 49-year-old Georgia man was arrested for allegedly stabbing another man in the abdomen just hours earlier, he said.

A sheriff confirms that Tila Tequila has complained that audience members attacked her with stones and feces early Saturday morning at the Gathering of the Juggalos festival in downstate Illinois, the AP reports. Tequila recounted the event to TMZ: I went onstage and immediately, before I even got on stage, DUDES were throwing HUGE STONE ROCKS in my face, beer bottles that slit my eye open, almost burnt my hair on fire cuz they threw fire crackers on stage, and they even took the s**t out of the port-0-potty and threw s**t and piss at me when I was onstage.

The four-day annual Gathering of the Juggalos festival is organized by the Michigan rap group Insane Clown Posse. The fans refer to themselves as Juggalos.

The Sheriffs Department has no other details at this time.

Man Arrested for Masturbating in Water Bottle of Female Co-Worker

By Roz Zurko

According to an Orange County press release on TMZ, a man was arrested for masturbating and ejaculating into a female co-workers water bottle. He did this not once, but twice. The unsuspecting woman drank the water after the man made each deposit and it rendered her sick.

In January the man walked into his female co-workers empty office and masturbated into her water bottle. The woman, who had no idea this had happened, drank the water bottle the man had planted back where she had originally left it. The woman felt ill that day after drinking the water that he had masturbated in and threw the water bottle away.

A little while later, the woman and her masturbating co-worker were transferred together to another branch. It wasn't too long before the co-worker tried this again. He waited for her office to be empty and went in and masturbated int he bottle once again.

The woman fell ill after drinking the water and instead of throwing the water bottle away, this time she sent the water bottle and its contents to an independent lab for testing. The test showed that someone had indeed masturbated in the bottle and DNA was able to be extracted from the water bottles contents.

Investigators were able to match the DNA with the co-worker and he was arrested.

This is not the first time a co-worker laced a drink with body fluids. It is rare, but it does happen. (although it may not be rare, it is just that people may not get caught). This time it was a 50 year old man in Akron Ohio, who urinated in the office community coffee, according to MSNBC. The office workers suspected something was wrong with the coffee and set up a hidden camera and caught the man.

He was lacing the coffee with his own urine. He was arrested for his disgusting act also. The co-workers could not believe that this man would sit with them in the morning and watch them drink his urine in the coffee. A motive was never offered for the man who masturbated or the man who urinated in the co-workers water bottle or coffee.

http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/air-force-working-on-video-game-to-recruit-drone-pilots/19600804

"

Will Video Games Help Air Force Recruit Drone Pilots? "

(Aug. 19) -- The Air Force is developing a new video game designed to attract young recruits to a crucial, growing career field: drone piloting.

The U.S. military is increasingly using armed combat drones to target terrorists and insurgents in Afghanistan and Pakistan. remotely piloted aircraft, or RPA -- known as drones in popular parlance -- are unmanned, but the Air Force still needs pilots to direct them from a remote base.

An Air Force MQ-9 Reaper from the 62nd Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron takes off from Kandahar Air Base, Afghanistan, for a mission in March.

Indeed, the Air Force has been struggling to provide enough trained drone pilots to keep up with the escalating demands in Afghanistan. To help fill those spots, the service recently created a new career field specifically for pilots of these unmanned aircraft.

But convincing young people who grew up watching movies and playing video games that glorified manned fighters to join the ranks of drone pilots may not be easy. So the Air Force is pursuing a game based on RPA to help persuade recruits that this could be a cool career path to explore.

"Air Education and Training Command is developing Predator/Reaper simulation to encourage recruits to consider the RPA career field," Col. John Thompson, the future learning adviser to the Air Education and Training Command, told AOL News in an e-mail.

The military's interest in gaming technology is nothing new. The "America's Army" series is now one of the most successful first-person shooter video games around. It's credited with boosting recruitment for the Army and enhancing the military's image among the younger generation. The Army also helped fund development of the popular "Full Spectrum Warrior" game.

"The U.S. Army developed America's Army into a great recruiting and training tool using the latest in video game technology," Thompson wrote on the Defense Department's Armed with Science blog.

Although the game may showcase a fifth-generation fighter simulator, "we don't seem to have troubles recruiting F-22 pilots," he said.

This marriage of military and entertainment is very effective, observers say.

"The Pentagon's embrace of video games is part of a much larger phenomenon -- 'militainment' -- that is reshaping how the public understands today's conflicts," Peter Singer, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, writes in Foreign Policy magazine. "The term was first coined to describe any public entertainment that celebrated the military, but today it could be redefined to mean the fascinating, but also worrisome, blurring of the line between entertainment and war."

Worrisome or not, "militainment" has proved a boon for Army, and it appears the Air Force is following suit. Whether it will follow the Army's lead with a fully downloadable video game available to the general public remains to be seen.

For now, Thompson notes the focus is on creating a simulator for Air Force recruits. He said it will be based on the Predator and Reaper, but no other details are being released.

Quite the tribute for a 90-year-old science fiction author. Not safe for work, or small children.

Much better than those posters from school of some star reading a book that say "Read". Motivating! Now where is that base library?
