WTF?

article-1317267-0B716BF0000005DC-634_964x603.jpg

Check that photo from the weekend's Ryder Cup action. No, it's not staged or Photoshopped. That's really Tiger Woods hitting a golf ball straight at the camera.

How'd it happen? By mistake. The cameraman, Mark Pain of the Daily Mail, was in the proper position on the 18th hole when Woods flat-out duffed his shot. The ball hit Pain's camera and dropped to the ground. But unlike many instances when Woods and caddy Stevie Williams have taken issue with photographers, Tiger had nothing to say here. He knew he was in the wrong, not Pain.

(Aside: best part of the gallery in this picture? The smiling dude with the cigar on the right side of the frame. He's the only thing about this photo that looks fake.)

'Cigar Guy' Creates Web Frenzy

A photographer for the Daily Mail got an amazing picture at the Ryder Cup of Tiger Woods flubbing a shot headed directly at the camera. He didn't duck and Tiger's golf ball actually hit the lens — but not before the image was captured midflight. The photo has been seen around the world.

But that's not what's captivating the Web. It's the amazingly unique look of the fan standing just to the right of Tiger's shoulder, chomping on a cigar, wearing a turban-like brown hat, and sporting a thick, Groucho Marx–style mustache. The spectator just steals the show.

And just like that, the "Cigar Guy" Internet star was born. The mystery man has been inserted in pictures and shared around the Web. Yahoo! searches for the mustachioed golf fan twirled up 675% in just one day. Searches were also popular on "Cigar Guy," "cigar guy ryder cup," and "cigar guy tiger woods."

It's the shot that launched a photo-editing frenzy: One image is of the now famous Tiger Woods photo, except everyone, including Tiger, has been turned into the Cigar Guy. Check it out here. There's the Cigar Guy on a Beatles album cover. And the Cigar Guy taking out Sonny Liston.

While the original picture is incredible, it may be even more memorable for taking on a life of its own. A photographic hole-in-one.

Too lazy to post the links, go to the original article by clicking on the thread title...

No such thing as rape within the union of marriage, so sayeth Muslim cleric from the U.K.

LONDON — A leading Muslim cleric has sparked controversy in Britain by claiming that it is impossible for men to rape their wives.

Sheikh Maulana Abu Sayeed, who is president of the Islamic Sharia Council, told a website that "sex is part of marriage" and suggested that husbands who commit such acts should not be prosecuted.

"Clearly there cannot be any rape within the marriage," he told The Samosa website. "Maybe aggression, maybe indecent activity... Because when they got married, the understanding was that sexual intercourse was part of the marriage, so there cannot be anything against sex in marriage. Of course, if it happened without her desire, that is no good, that is not desirable."

Sayeed runs Britain's largest network of Islamic sharia courts, The Independent reported.

Rape within marriage has been illegal in Britain since 1991.

Sayeed told The Samosa that if husband "does something against her wish or in a bad time" that he "may be disciplined, and he may be made to ask forgiveness. That should be enough."

When contacted by The Independent, the cleric added: "In Islamic sharia, rape is adultery by force. So long as the woman is his wife, it cannot be termed as rape. It is reprehensible, but we do not call it rape."

Cheshire police Chief Constable Dave Whatton criticized the comments.

"The majority of rapes do not take place through strangers attacking women late at night but between acquaintances and within marriages and partnerships," he told The Independent.

Inayat Bunglawala, chairman of Muslims4UK, added: "Sheikh Sayeed's comments are woefully misguided and entirely inappropriate. Rape — whether within marriage or outside it — is an abominable act and is clearly against the law."

Aircraft crashes after crocodile on board escapes and sparks panic

Published: 5:53PM BST 21 Oct 2010

A small airliner crashed into a house, killing a British pilot and 19 others after a crocodile smuggled into the aircraft in a sports bag escaped and started a panic.

The plane came down despite no apparent mechanical problems during an internal flight in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It has now emerged that the crash was caused by the concealed reptile escaping and causing a stampede in the cabin, throwing the aircraft off-balance.

A lone survivor apparently relayed the bizarre tale to investigators.

The crocodile survived the crash, only to be dispatched with a blow from a machete.

Danny Philemotte, the Dutch pilot and 62-year-old owner of the plane's operator, Filair, struggled in vain with the controls, with Chris Wilson, his 39-year-old First Officer from Shurdington, near Cheltenham, Glocs.

The plane was on a routine flight from the capital, Kinshasa, to the regional airport at Bandundu when the incident unfolded, on August 25.

It crashed into a house just a few hundred feet from its destination. The occupants of the property were outside at the time.

According to the inquiry report and the testimony of the only survivor, the crash happened because of a panic sparked by the escape of a crocodile hidden in a sports bag.

One of the passengers had hidden the animal, which he planned to sell, in a big sports bag, from which the reptile escaped as the plane began its descent into Bandundu.

A report of the incident said: "The terrified air hostess hurried towards the cockpit, followed by the passengers."

The plane was then sent off-balance "despite the desperate efforts of the pilot", said the report.

The plane was a Czech-made Let L-410 Turbolet, one of more than 1,100 produced as short-range transport aircraft and used mainly for passenger services.

That's what happens when you smoke crack and put icy hot on your balls before a campaign speech.

He could do alright in promos for professional wrestling.

EDIT: Also, I like that in that entire time, he didn't provide one single actual IDEA for what he'd do as treasurer other than a bunch of meaningless platitudes and generic statements. Comm. degree FTW!

Actor Randy Quaid and wife claim asylum in Canada

ANCOUVER (Reuters) – Hollywood actor Randy Quaid and his wife, wanted in the United States on vandalism charges, are seeking refugee status in Canada, saying on Friday they feared for their lives.

The couple were arrested in Vancouver on Thursday after police responded to a call and found there were arrest warrants out for them in California. Officials incorrectly said earlier that were arrested on Wednesday.

In a rambling presentation at an immigration hearing, Evi Quaid said eight of her husband's acting friends had been murdered in recent years and they feared he would be next.

"We feel our lives are in danger," she told the Immigration and Refugee Board hearing.

Their attorney, Brian Tsuji, later read a note from the couple to reporters. "Yes, we are seeking asylum from Hollywood star whackers." (Full story)
